“DO NOT BUY ANY SAMSUNG FRIDGE FREEZERS”

As you may well have read they are terrible, customer service really rude when the appliance broke (due to fault they knew about but did not inform people before warranty ran out) they have tried saying the fault is not on newer models yet i have read lots of people with new models saying thiers have developed same problem, that being the ice build up in fridge side which eventually breaks the fan. Do not waste your money on any samsung fridge freezer. (read more)

I completely agree! We bought the RS277 side by side 3 years ago. HUGE CRACK SUDDENLY APPEARED in the freezer door...inside where the ice comes down from ice maker to ice in door. Samsung says only 1 year warranty. Lowes Protection Plus denied due to cosmetic only. Will have to start letter writing campaign now.

Totally agree. We had the heater fitted by Samsung engineer after seeing the watchdog program. Came in yesterday and guess what it's iced up again. Can hear the fan catching when it spins. My husband rng us timer services today and basically said defrost it and see how it is. I will be ringing them tomorrow as I will not accept there attempt at fobbing us of

yes problem, not cooling and warm: 22 degrees. sounds like its working but actually not. I am not happy especially when they knew it had problems; why didn't they recall the model, contact the customers that bought it in the beginning as they have our details with the guarantees we bought. Not ethical business trading!!

I have an rs21 and have had it since they first came out, its great in its simplicity, the cold water and ice maker are really useful. The freezer is a fair size and the fridge is enormous The rs21 has a common manufacture fault that causes the fan inside the fridge to eventually get frozen solid after water builds up around it over time. PS I've never needed to defrost it in all those years. Even when I accidentally left the freezer door open and it frosted up, just shut the door and it resolved itself. Feel sorry for those who haven't shared my experience of this product but I speak as I find and for me, it's been the most reliable electical appliance in my house.

my advise is to stay a way from samsung unless you like to defrost your new fridge every few months when the fan freezes up then it will finally pack it in all together. phoned samsung to complain and got led around for a dam week before they said its not there problem but you look online to see plenty of people have this problem cant stand a company tha wont stand behind its product by the way the fridge one year and four months old just over its warranty (read more)

Despite Samsung extending the warranty to 5 years it doesn't help the fridge freezer goes wrong time after time until it is out of warranty then samsung do not want to know the "fix" they carry out does not always work - they fridge frezer works for a while once it has been defrosted, but it is because it has been defrosted not because samsung have fixed the latent defect I will never buy anything from samsung again as they do not offer customer service (read more)

I have had the same problem with my Samsung Fridge Freezer. Samsung are totally indifferent or even hostile to customers making complaints about a product that they are fully aware is not fit for purpose.

hi i have just been on the phone this morning to samsung and i was ready to explode they just donot care
the senior tech at the executive office wass just rude and talked over me, i ended up rasing my voice
we have had the fridge freezer 8 years and this is teh 3rd or 4th time it has broken down
same problem each time, so it is a fault in the product - never ever buy samsung

Are you still happy, a year on? Our experience has been that the fridge freezer breaks down just after the warrenty runs out, the engineers charge you a fortune to fix it, the problem still occurs and you can't get your money back for a job that didn't work. NEVER buy Samsung - their products are rubbish and their customer service is worse.

just to let everyone know that we have just fixed our own samsung american style fridge freezer. we have the RSA1WTMH model and were adviced to buy a kit by friends of ours who buy all there water filters and shelves and things from appliance diy repairs. they have got the RS21 model that lots of people have had problems with, and they fixed there fridge using one of these repair kits about a year ago. we love our fridge but didnt want to spend to much fixing it so this seemed to be the best... Hi we have the same problem with our samsung fridge freezer, and have been living with the problem for the last 3 years as we coudn't afford for the comet engineer (the fridge went wrong 2 months after the warrenty ran out!!!!), we were quoted over 350 pounds to have someone come out and look and fix. Do you have the web address for appliance diy repairs, or their contact details.

Hi have what I think RSA1RTPN model, firstly the freezer gave up and now the fridge, do you think that the kit you are speeking of might help. Could this be a motor problem, need to check warranty but have a feeling it could be out.

Well if you expect that then dont buy a gas front loader from samsung as they say that this is normal for their dryers to ball up sheets. they dont post this for you to consider when you are buying their applaince . that might keep you from buying there appliance. My rs21 is 5yrs and 9mths old and has had 2 previous repairs before the most recent one on 23rd June 2011. I phoned samsung who deny ever being out to the appliance. To put a long story short and approximatly 50 phone calls and 4 weeks and a day later they have finally admitted that they have a record of repairs on an old database. Basically they called me a liar for 4 weeks and hence would not send anyone out to it. If it was down to samsung i would still have no fridge (i had to pay for the fridge repair which i am currently trying to claim back) I WILL NEVER BUY A SAMSUNG PRODUCT AGAIN!!!!

Samsung will not provide a replacement and it will take them 10 days to get me a service engineer!!! This product is faulty and should never have made it to the market.
We have had the usual noisy frozen up evaporator /heater assembly even after a refit, broken / split plastic fridge door handle in a home that does not have children or is not used 'hard'!
I would now have been better investing a further £500 (ontop of the cost of the Samsung) in a reputable top end manufacturer.
Samsung should have done the right thing and owned up to the problem and rectified accordingly......

My fridge freezer was covered by the extended 5 year warranty on the fridge cooler unit. However, after three call outs to the engineer in the space of three months Samsung has now said that the unit is 'irreperable' and have offered me £300 for a 'depreciated refund'. Given that it cost £999 new and should have lasted a lot longer than 5 years and is now useless, I don't consider £300 to be more than a cycnical way of avoiding responsibility for fixing my fridge/freezer. Having had the RS21D for 6 years I have little hope of warranty repair so will be looking for a relacement, but that will work out at £800+ for 6 years!

To be fair to Samsung they are repairing our 5 year old freezer even though the warranty has expired. We have the same fault as most who have posted on here. a frozen water pipe at the bottom rear of the fridge causing a ice build up and eventually stopping the cooling fan. I was just wondering does anybody know how you can defrost the fridge section without defrosting the freezer side? I want all the ice removed before they come to fix it.

I bought an RS21 f/freezer nearly 2 years ago. Within 3 months it had stopped working properly - although the fridge temperature stated 4 degrees, everything in the fridge was warm. I bought a RS21 and had it just over 2 years when I had a problem with the coolant part - however they replaced this - then unfortunately I had an internal fire because the heater went wrong - however Samsung have been more than fair and are going to be upgrading my fridge freezer, paying for a plumber as the next one has a water cooler and also for loss of food etc so all in all they have been excellent to deal with. I bought my Samsung RS21 in October 2005 and within 6 months had the engineer call out to the fridge (same problems as everyone else with the drilling noise and then going off). I have today booked my 4th callout for the exact same fault. I have read the previous comments and my experience is a little bit different. The Samsung RS21 fridge has been great for the last 2.5 years. There is plenty of space for storage, the interior is well designed and easy to clean. Our fridge/freezer is only 15 months old. It began making weird noises and the freezer went on to defrost everything. Forgot it was on 2 year guarantee so called an engineer out. Manually defrosted ice from back of fridge unit (is this an automatic function?).
All was fine for 2 weeks and then it started again, repeated operation and again it was fine.

Went away for a weekend break got back to find my Samsung RS21 switched off. Opened the fridge door only to find that it had caught fire!! Called Samsung who recommended a company locally who would repair it. The engineer arrived took one look at the fridge and said it was a "write off". Transpires that there is a heater element in the fridge that stops the fridge icing up, this had malfunctioned and caught fire, the fire burnt the plastic interior rendering the unit irrepairable. I found this review very helpful because...my Samsuung worked perfectly then had some problems with the coolant part which was replaced in March = then on Saturday strange noises from the fridge and opened the door to find flames = the lady at Samsung was not very empathetic - got an engineer coming tomorrow - I do not want it rebuilt I need it replaced and them to cover the cost of the call out etc etc.

Of all the electrical items in the home what is the one item you do not switch off at night, yes your fridge. With the Samsung RS21 Fridge Freezer, the water and ice facilities are great and both the fridge and the freezer are a reasonable size for a large family. Mine keeps breaking down however and I have to defrost the whole thing every six months. I wouldn't buy one again as the inconvenience of having to rehome all my frozen stuff every six months while I turn the fridge/freezer off for two days isn't worth it. (read more)

Three months ago experienced the loud noise coming from the fridge compartment and then the fridge then stopped working overnight, so i lost a fridge full of food.Went online and did my research to find the product had been on watchdog. Same as lots of other people on this site.. I have had real fun with my RS21. Temp in fridge kept rising which meant it really wasn't worth keeping anything expect milk in it for fear of poisoning my whole family. Complained to Samsung after I found out the f f had been featured on watchdog earlier on in the year. An engineer called armed with the part needed to fix the problem - sure enough less than a week later the unit is making the most awful noise.. a road drill really isn't an... (read more)

I was given a fast repair service for my Samsung RS21 by Trio Domestic. Have now been given a 5 year warranty by Samsung so product is as good as new. The new model on the market is priced much lower than the RS21. (read more)

We bought the Samsung RS21 a year ago. It worked fine for about 10 months then problems started. Contacted Samsung and they arranged to send engineer around. I have so far had four different engineer visits and problem has not been fixed. Samsung again want to send another engineer next week. My fridge temp is 19 degrees and the freezer is 2 degrees.
I am very disappointed with this purchase. I watched the BBC watchdog programme. I bought the fridge from Comet together with 5 year warranty.... (read more)

When I complained that it was annoying to have to take holiday to have an expensive fridge repaired that Samsung did not advise of the apparent design fault which everyone experiences. Samsung have advised me that it was only the fridge that they have as faulty - reading the comments on this site it would appear that the freezer is or could be faulty too. Had problem with freezer making loud noise, rang samsung and they said there is a fault with that model(rs21) engineer is coming out on tuesday and fitting an upgrade, and giving us an extended warranty, can't say farer than that.

We got our Samsung RS21 Fridge Freezer repaired 3 weeks ago and its gone again. With our first baby on the way in 3 weeks contacted them again and were told NO chance of replacement, will be contacted within 48 hours for repair this 96 working hours ago. We have contacted the consumer rights authority here in Ireland and they have told us to file with the small claims court here. It costs ' 9 per claim and the court does the rest on our behalf. Will update on what happens. (read more)

Arrived to repair while we were in the hospital. Repair guy was v good, had a key left out back <br/>no problems since. Samsung customer service are the worst I have come across. Keep a note of calls made to them dates and ref. numbers. Gave us 2 repair dates and never showed. Best of luck.

The Samsung RS21 Fridge Freezer was excellent until 6 weeks outside of the two year warranty. It started to make a funny noise and was losing temperature (same as mentioned on watch dog). Phoned samsung and they sent out an engineer who told us that the compressor was broken and oil had contaminated the system and that it was beyond economic repair. However, have been in contact with Samsung and they have agreed to replace it with a RSH1 FBMH. We are really pleased with this response because... (read more)

I've had my Samsung RS21 fridge freezer nearly two years and NO PROBLEMS at all, maybe im in a minority but I love my purchase and it was reduced in a sale at a time when they were selling for around 900 I bought it for 500. (read more)
