Although I am not a huge horror fan, especially when it comes to Japanese remakes, I was actually suprised by the quality of this performance, far better than I expected. A lot of remakes are normally obviously done just to create hype and make loads of money, even though they involve story lines that are completely irrelivant to the reason for horror, for example the ring. However, The Eye Movie does not seem to have the same intentions, as I felt the reason was not for horror, yet a real story about a blind girl, where horror is just second nature with this film and simply not the story but the genre. Which is great as after watching The Eye 2008 I realised this film actually works...I would argue this is not one of Jessica Alba's best performances, however she does have a lot to act upon compared to other movies she has stared in as far as I am concnered, although the loving life character comes through naturally which is very well done as it is a main part to the story of the eye movie. As I said before the intention's of the film are not to create another Japanese horror remake for no use, but the idea of a girl getting used to vision is the main aspect as it is worth seeing just for this adjustment. However, even though I argue horror was not the intention of this film, it certainly an undergrowing role, and not just the genre, as the suspense in my opinion can capture any viewer. As the story develops the more involved you become and at the point the horror starts, giving you the feeling of a true story which plays a major part of the fear factor of the eye. I can understand some negative reviews, as the scares are nothing special, and have most deffinitely been seen before, but the control of the story diminishes this aspect of the film in my opinion.Therfore I do not recommend The Eye Movie 2008, well worth watching in my opinion, my advice is to watch the film for the actual story rather than just looking for horror.
