Good Points: I can't think of any

    Bad Points: The staff

General comments: I purchased a Renault Megane 55 plate from the Arnold Clark branch in Kilmarnock Western Road on Saturday 24th September 2006, and may I say, the service we received was nothing short of terrible.

In the sales pitch we were promised: "
The mileage on the car was just under 8000 miles
There was 2 years 6 months left on the Manufacturers Warranty
The car would have a service
A few chip marks in the paint work would be repaired
    6 months Road Tax
    A full tank of diesel
    Free Mats for the Car

Before leaving the branch we were advised to fax a cover from our insurers so that they could purchase the road tax. I did do that and then telephoned twice on Saturday afternoon and left messages to contact me so that I could confirm they received the cover note, but I got no return call. And on Monday, I called again, and was told they did not get my messages or my cover note. I then called my insurers again who confirmed it was sent, and I asked them to send it again.

We then went down on Tuesday evening to pick up the car, and my husband wanted to confirm the warranty. They checked the registration date of the car and said that there was 2 years 2 months left on it. My husband then said that they had said 2 and a half years was left of the warranty, and that he wanted what he was sold. They then said did I say that? got a blank piece of paper, wrote my name and address details on it, wrote what date the car was registered from new and that I was to get 2 years 6 months warranty, and then signed it. I then had to ask her if they had an Arnold Clark stamp, as I did not think it was worth anything without the stamp. They was not very happy at my request.

They then took us out to get the car, which would have been nice to be sitting outside the showroom. And without saying a word to us the whole way, they took us round the back, over to the back fence where the staff park their cars. We then got in the car and they put in the Road Tax disc and had asked us to follow her to the petrol station so that they could put fuel in it, and I had noticed that there were no mats, so I asked was I not getting my mats, and they then said did I say that ? We then followed her to the petrol station, and I noticed on the display that the mileage was actually 19,668 miles and that the service light was flashing

When I got to the petrol station I said to her that I think we have a big problem, as they had stated on Saturday and tonight that the mileage was just under 8000 miles and that a service had been done, and if so, why was the service light flashing, and most important, what was the discrepancy with the mileage, as it also stated on the sales sheet that the mileage was 8000 miles. She did not answer me and just kept putting diesel in the car and she then stopped the pump at £12. I had said I thought we were getting a full tank, and she again said did I say that ? I later noticed that the chip marks on the paint had not been done either.

I then asked her to meet me back at the branch as I was going to speak to a the manager, which I did.

After some discussions with her, and she with a manager, it all came to a satisfactory end, as I will have everything that was promised to me that I was told I was getting when I bought the car.

I was then out visiting friends on Wednesday night and had a look at the Tax Disc in my car, and I noticed that it was not my tax disc. It was for a Peugeot, and the registration number was nothing like mine! Straight away, again I contacted the branch. I was not very happy. I was advised by her again, who returned my call after speaking to reception that they had mixed my disc up with another one from a car with a registration number very similar to my own. She then said she would go to the post office and get a duplicate, which to my knowledge is not possible, and have it delivered to my workplace.

I just cannot believe that a company so vast like Arnold Clark would have a sales person who has been with the company for 11 years to offer such bad customer service! We clearly just went out to buy a new car, which after all, should be an enjoyable experience.
