“warrenty work”

Written on: 21/02/2013

Bought a six months old corsa sri from their Mount Vernon branch. 2 Months later the window washers stop working. (Common fault on the corsa which is not covered under warrenty). Put it in to get fixed was told i would get a call to tell me if it was under warrenty or not. No phone call. Call the service department and the feamle told me the car was ready and was done under warrenty. When picking the car up was informed it was NOT under warrenty as a gromit had been blocked and needed... (read more)

“Do not trust them even an inch: AVOID”

Written on: 04/02/2013

"Rude and obnoxious" (see earlier review) is only the start of it... I left my car with them for paintwork (for 6 days), and when I picked up the car on a Saturday, just as the mechanics were going home I discovered the handbreak was now defective. It was not in that state when the car was left for the work. Response on Saturday - tough. Response on monday when I called the 'Service Manager' - ditto comments above PLUS Rude arrogant dismissive petulant nasty ... AND dishonest. I was NOT... (read more)

“Rude & Obnoxious service!!!”

Written on: 08/10/2012

My sister has recently purchased a car (cash buy)from Machargs South St Glasgow....the service from beginning to end & beyond has been atrocious!! Why she even gave them her money I will never know! Firstly the sales man (& I use the term loosely)had an instant attitude & was acting like a gallus know it all with a 'couldnt care less' attitude toward everything she said. She had just passed her test and was venturing on her first exciting journey of purchasing her own car & was looking for... (read more)

“Wish I read reviews before dealing with Arnold Clark”

Written on: 04/11/2011

I travelled 500 miles to buy a car for £13500 from Marchargs Glasgow who are part of the Arnold Clark group when I arrived the car had been keyed along 2 panels and no one had even bothered to tell me. I guess they probably thought that when I arrived I would just accept it as was a long way from home. They put the responsibility of the damage back on me saying I could repair it locally and they would settle the bill. I spoke to the young, very cocky and arrogant sales manager who said I... Written on: 12/07/2011

As a new driver I had bought a 10 year old Vauxhall, there were a few minor issues with it so I thought best to take it to a Vauxhall dealership and I went to Arnold Clark on Pollockshaws Road. I asked them to check out these minor faults and they were happy enough to do so. At the end of the day they came back and said that there was nothing wrong with my car bar no oil in it (the oil had been filled up the weekend before, but I had an oil leak). For which they had charged me £65. Happy I... (read more)

Had a really bad experience with Arnold Clark Vauxhall (Glasgow South, Pollockshaws Road). Agreed to trade in my car for a new one, done all the paperwork and paid a deposit. I was told to bring in my V5 etc for my current car.

Two days later I bring in my documents only to be told that they had given me the wrong price. They wanted an extra £435 for metallic paint because THEY had forgot to add it to the price agreed. I don't think that I should be made to pay for their mistake or that it... (read more)

I recently looked at a car at Mchargs Glasgow, and also viewed the same make, model and spec at another nearby garage but was £600 more. I was sure i was going to get a great deal here until they valued my at £4400 . . . . . . i just couldn't beleive the offer when i had been offered £5800 for my car hours before at the nearby garage. My sister and I were browsing for a car for her, while being ogled by a bunch of sniggering, leering, high school drop-outs (i.e. the sales staff). We should've taken that as a warning :-S We were interested in a Ford Ka & the bloke that came over said he didn't know where the keys were. Turned out the car was unlocked but the next thing was, the guy couldn't open the bonnet as he couldn't find the opening lever. He eventually got his colleagues to help. I bought a 14 month old Ford Focus from Arnold Clark at their Ayr branch.
It became apparent to me over the first few weeks that the car had been re-sprayed,I also found broken glass under the carpets in a few locations.
The car also did not drive like a nearly new car with with a sloppy gear selector and strange noises and a vague feeling from the front end.
I bit the bullet and cursed myself for buying a dog.
After about a year a patch of paint fell from the front passenger door, the... (read more)

I bought a car 8 weeks ago as a working car. it has been in the service dept. three times and the RAC have been out at it twice
I have not been informed by the Cumbernauld Service Dept. that the Cat Converter needs replaced. They do not know when the part will arrive or if. Surely they are not trying to say that there are not parts for an 18month old Kia Carens. The sales people have been most unco-operative and cannot even offer a curtesy car. (read more)

I went looking a for a car at the AC on Alison street after having a look round. The dealer took me on a test drive in the model I was looking for and I was liking the car - he then tried to sell me the demo model I had just been driving, which would have been okay if it had not been for the age (a year old) and the price (1k more than I had seen for a pre-reg new). I took out a Service Deal on car purchase but it does NOT cover the Manufacturers recommendations. Arnold Clark charge extra for this and a first "Free" service cost me an extra £91.
Never heard of a Coolant Change or a Brake Fluid Change or a Fuel additive on your first service? - Well go to Arnolds they are masters of this nasty practice - Dick Turpin at least had a mask!

Below is a detailed account of a deal I was doing with this branch. I was lucky in the end as I got out of the deal (although I lost money) but I think it's only fair to tell as many people as possible about the terrible service you can expect at this branch.
A complaint was made to customer services but they just passed the complaint to the salesman I was complaining about.

I bought a 52 Plate Nissan Primera at Arnold Clark. After one week my car started shuddering violently, so I took it back to the garage who told me that they needed the engine management light to be on before they could see to it. The very next day it came on so it went back. They then cleared the light and said they couldn't fix it, I would need to take it to Livingston, as the garage their is Nissan. 4 weeks since i bought the picasso and i'm still waiting for my service history book which machargs say will prove my car has been serviced. Despite constant promises from them that they will post out the service history book and the mats. I give up on the insult of a gallon of petrol, and definitely won't be back there. The cars going well but once they've got your ££££'s the aftercare service is a wash out.

I have now made FOURTEEN phone calls to Machargs. My last call had the receptionist tell me that she would go to see a manager right away. After doing her nails or whatever she had done, she came back to the phone and assured me the manager would ensure the salesman would phone me back ......Guess what? Still not the courtesy to phone me, still no mats and still no service history book......is anybody there??????

Graemer's Response to graemer's Review

Written on: 21/10/2006

THE FINAL CHAPTER.
Had a call from Machargs. If I buy a service book from a local dealer (Aramadale) and send it to Machargs, they will stamp it as serviced and post it back to me. My mats are in the showroom for me to pick up (100 mile round trip).

Actually, I missed the call from Machargs, but they left a message for me to phone them. When I did phone and introduce myself, the guy on the other end asked if I was happy with my car from Machargs, and then asked me if I would like to upgrade it! When I asked if he was having a laugh, he asked me why I was phoning!!

Once he finally worked out why I was in fact phoning, he immediately went on the offensive saying that if you buy a second hand car then you get (as a package) what they get when they take the car as an exchange.

He ignored the fact the fact that I had phoned 18 times and had only 3 responses. Ignored the fact that to get my mats I had to travel 100 miles. Ignored the fact that I was quoted £6500 for my trade in via telephone, and ended up haggling for £6300 and mats and petrol. Ignored the fact that despite offering to give me petrol for my bother, they never even gave me enough to take the petrol warning light off.

I would advise anyone who buys a car to make sure you are not rushed by the salesman into buying, and without doubt take your time when looking over the car and its contents before driving out of the showroom.

NOW ARNOLD CLARK SAY THE FAULT IS NOT RELATED(FUNNY THAT)AND THAT EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRENTY AT ALMOST £400 THE FAULT THAT THEIR MACHINE NOW SHOWS DOES NOT COVER THIS.
