Agreed to do a deal if no mot advisories , car passed mot at 2nd attempt but still advisory for brake fluctuation . Wouldn't rectify , crazy lost a sale , would you buy a car with brake advisory on mot after 2 attempts , nor me , still waiting for my refund 5 days later .

I went to the arnold clark locharbrigs dealership a few weeks ago to look at a peugeot 308 they were advertising for sale on their internet site. When I got to the dealership I asked about the car and after hunting around the place the manager told the salesman that one of the staff were using the vehicle for transport to a course and the car would be back that night. As I did not stay locally the salesman said that he would email some pictures of the car to me when the car returned. I had a few things to do and then visit some friends before I went home. Not too long after that I recieved a phonecall from him saying that he had sent the pics to me. I said that as I was still in dumfries and I could just come up and see it now if it was ok. He said that was fine, the car was now in the showroom. When I arrived to view it I opened the door and was hit by the stink of rotten cigarette. The member of staff must have been smoking in it all day, it really was stinking. I told the salesman to forget it, I wasn't interested in a stinking cigarette car. He said "Oh it will be ok we will just put one of our bombs inside and set it off, that will get rid of the smell." I told him to forget it, the smell will always be there. Totally disgusted!!! Don't know how they sell any cars with that attitude. If there was a "no star" rating that's the one I would give this branch.

“Legalised Theft, atrocious customer service STAY WELL...”

written by on 13/10/2013

I am now on my third Renault in a row and it will be my last. 3 Renaults purchased from the Dumfries branch and 3 major faults. First one the timing belt broke what I believed under warranty, but guess what, Renault have reduced the mileage that the warranty used to cover as they were having so many failures and now it's just over 2000 miles outside the warranty, and was told there is nothing they can do. A cost of £1295 to repair. Second Renault, albeit outside of warranty, had a complete fuel system failure. New fuel pump, common rail, injectors, fuel lines, plus everything else at a cost of £1150, and this week electronic handbrake computer failed. Quoted £797 to repair. Had enough of all the problems so spoke to Renault customer services on the same day who said they would think about helping but would need prices from renault Dumfries and would contact that day. 1 week later and Renault customer services said Dumfries had still not responded. Nothing like being efficient!! So I personally spoke to the general manager who eventually got things moving, but lo and behold Renault said they couldn't help with anything towards the costs regardless of the other 2 major faults that had occurred. What was the point in wasting my time, so I told them I would never be back and would make sure anyone thinking of buying a renault knew what they were letting themselves in for. I told the agent that having spent 10's of thousands with them they were just going to turn their back, so I would make sure that people knew what a poor service they offered. Well they then said " Let us look at it again" and came back a couple of days later with 15% towards the cost which I accepted and they booked the car in for repair. When I collected the car and got the bill it was a lot more expensive than I expected. Why?? We'll seems that the price of the parts have gone up OVERNIGHT was the explanation from the service manager. Total B*LLSHiT... They pretend to help out, then increase the cost of the parts and say it's not them it's the supplier, they put the cost of the parts up overnight, and you end up getting next to nothing in help. If your thinking of buying a Renault..... DON'T!!!!

“Arnold Clark all smiles till you drive off”

Just bought a 2007 focus Diesel from locharbrigs Arnold Clark in Dumfries, now the salesman Chris was sound but as per normal there is always somebody hiding controlling the rains and this is one of my pet hates if dealing with AC When I 1st looked at the car it had just came in but was in good order, I noticed the alloy wheels were in good condition something I made note of checking . When it was time to pick the car up I made it clear to Arnold Clark I was night shift I did not want to be held up for long a simple in and out, this did not happen, I was sat in a chair singing paper work while mr salesman dwindled on getting me to shake hands with managers ( part of the AC sales patter routine) and just stuff I did not need to be doing, when U eventually got to the car I noticed the wheels were in bad condition, the tyres had been replaced on 3 of the wheels, I said to the sales guy these wheels need refurbished but this was brushed aside. I got home still annoyed with the wheels and left a MSG for the sales man To phone, I then sent an email to him as u needed to sleep before going to work. Going to work 1st thing I noticed was the car interior light was not working, then I noticed the windscreen was very dirty and the wipers were very noisy. The response from Arnold Clark was to bring the car in next time I am passing for the wheels to be looked at and book the car in to get the light fixed, this only after one day of the car being sold. Garbage service, garbage preparation of there cars, the only good thing was compared to similar cars its was around £600 cheaper or the price of a new set of wheels. I intend to take the car back in once if night shift and see what they say about the wheels

Just to add, I had traded in a 2002 diesel 206, a car that had spotless alloys,, clean windscreen and good quiet wiper blades and working interior light, a car they gave me £700 for and I now have a car with more problems that it .

“It wouldn't let me leave 0 stars”

I bought a 2010 Peugeot 207 1.4 vti from Arnold Clark in Locharbriggs. I bought the car 2nd hand in May 2011 and it is now Feb 2012. In the time I have owned the car, I have had 2 clutches, a new set of brakes and it has been back and forward to the garage for what seems to be a gearbox issue - but the garage cannot find an issue with it and wont fix it even though it is under warranty. The car wont go into reverse gear on the first attempt, it will randomly not go into gear when you are driving it. For example - 50mph accelerating onto the motorway, it failed to go into 5th. Not a useful thing, but Arnold Clark's mechanics, cant find a problem. I actually bought the car during the first week of May. The sales people messed up the paperwork so my 36 month payment plan is now a 37 month payment plan. Not a huge deal. I have a 12000 mile annual limit on my contract, and the mistake on the paperwork meant I had already clocked 1000 miles on the car before the contract had started. Meaning I'll get a 6p per mile charge at the end. Also, put the car in for a service and it came out with a large scratch on the back bumper. This was 6 months ago and they still haven't fixed it. Even though the manager said he would see to it. The Peugeot is on passport finance. I have 3 options at the end - buy the car, trade it in for a new car or give the car back and walk away. I'm positive I will be walking away and want nothing more to do with these cowboys. Overall, do not deal with Arnold Clark because you will regret it!

If you want a car which has been a hire car and passed of as a ex demo and some have had serious accident damage then buy from Arnold Clark Dumfries.
I feel very sorry for the sales staff as they are told to say this to the customer if they ask where the car came from,do not be fooled by Arnold Clarks name been on the log book as all daily hire cars are registered to him.If you buy a used car with their 1 month warrenty which is rubbish and have any problems once it has expired use the SALE OF GOODS ACT,which means goods must be fit for purpose for first 6 MONTHS even Arnold Clark can not get round this one.

“I traded my Lexus in at Arnold Clark in Feb and bought...”

written by on 22/04/2009

I traded my Lexus in at Arnold Clark in Feb and bought a 57 plate Corsa. I haded over the V5 and that is all the documentation I had. I then requested documentation for the car, which arrived with inaccurate details and had not been signed or agreed by me. I am still at present awaiting my log book and registration documents. My new car is playing up, the milage is higher than what was advertised, the service book was stamped and dated as being serviced after I picked my car up and with a higher milage than was on it when I collected it. I am so annoyed as my Lexus has now been soled and they have not followed the correct procedures. They have offered me a free service not bad for waiting two months and not being fully insured for my car. I will safely say that Arnold Clark will be the last place I purchase a car in the future, their customer service is disgusting and I was the one always chasing and asking questions, not once did they come to me to update me.
