I had an old TOMTOM ONE and it was pretty good but I could not fit a map of OZ on it as thats where we were off on holiday. So I bought a TOMTOM GO 730. Bought and downloaded the OZ map and it worked ok during the holiday. Then we put it away when we got back home as we still was using the old one. Anyway the old one kicked the bucket so I got the NEW ONE out (ok it was 13 mths old now but was only used for 4 weeks). Now it just skips to random screens usually ending up at the location for... My brother-in-law purchased the Tomtom 730 unit as a present for my sister and we love it. We were fans of its competitors but decided to give the Tomtom a try since according to most reviews it gives you a detailed instructions and shortest way to travel, saving both fuel and time. We like the Voices which are good and the routing is excellent with its wonderful Bluetooth feature. This is a highly recommended gadgets of all time, it will guide you to a right destinations. My tomtom Go worked perfectly for 18 months. I took up an offer to download the latest safety cameras at half price. My tomtom went bonkers. When I tried to operate the device it would only take me to the doctor, the dentist, the police station or to Portugal. I contacted Tomtom and they said they would repair it for £91 and a few pence. I believe it was too much of a coincidence for my tomtom to fail just as I downloaded an upgrade. I won't be buying another Tomtom. I notice the review... (read more)

Bought this unit 2 years ago to replace a Garmin Sat Nav. I am very disappointed from quality of the screen - Garmin is much better than this one as its screen is very bright and hence no problems with direct sunlight, Battery is dead now and this unit has been used only couple of times a week...,Unit got stuck several time and required a restart - which deleted all the favourites, internal memory is useless - no more than 20 favourites could be saved, customer service is a joke - this was... Great product....... when it works.
Bought via Halfords online
1st one did not work out of the box.
Returned to Halfords and replaced by Halfords.
2nd one stopped working after about a couple of months.
Returned to Halfords and replaced by Halfords.
3rd one lasted exactly 13 months, so one month after the warrently ran out. Took it to Halfords who have confirmed most of the ones they sell come back within the year. As the resident TomTom expert recognised me from me earlier visits They...

The TOM TOM go730 that i bought about a year ago now, has no let me down, there was an issue with the screens scrolling throuh one another on there own, however this was my fault due to not cover the screen and dust and grime in the sides, once cleaned unit works perfectly, also Yes this unit can have restrictions for HGV and LGV PCV drivers for free using the tom tom home service and adding point of interests, selecting uk and scrolling through. I like my Tom Tom, but who on Earth instigated the new messages that warn you to drive safely? There's one that pops up just after you have pushed "done" on the offered route - your eyes go to the road, and then you notice that Tom Tom has gone back to needing the safety message clicked off, so you look back at the Tom Tom - at EXACTLY THE MOMENT YOU NEED TO BE CONCENTRATING ON NEARBY TRAFFIC.
That's the most unsafe message I have ever encountered. They need to get rid of it.

Purchased 730 8 months ago and unit would not turn on. Had to send it in under warranty and pay shipping myself, some warranty... Repaired unit I got back 3 month ago now has a mind of its own scrolling through screens without being touched. The 730 is now unusable and customer support has now run out. I would not recommend this unit. (read more)

WARNING - STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN. If you do purchase make sure you update the map within 30 days as your map will be at least 3 quarters out of date on day of purchase. If you don't do this TOM TOM will charge you £40 to update the current map AND £40 to subscribe for a year.
Customer service are extremely poor.
Unit frequently loses voice output. TOM TOM have looked at it and stated there's no problem ! Yet it still frequently loses the voice.

Great satnav shame about the backup, mine went wrong during a download seven months ago and Tom Tom cant rectify the fault. It will not switch off properly and to use it one has to reset it each time it is used!
When contacted today to ask what is happening the response was:-Whilst we understand your frustrations here until the developers can resolve this there is unfortunately nothing further that I can do to assist you here .
They are happy to sell Updated maps, voices and speed camera...

Disappointing, I have used Tom Tom previously on a PDA and had no problems, having used it for a number of years the maps were getting out of date. I noticed more map errors on my new Tom Tom almost as soon as I started using it, this was after updating to the latest maps. The level of errors was apparent more quickly than when I started using my old GPS years ago. I have reported the errors but it would appear maps are not updated frequently, these are errors that are years old not just... (read more)

buy another brand so you don't have to put up with the support issues at tom tom go, or go back to the old melways.
what a shame as when you buy more than one you get an understanding the unit actually works well< as long as it continues to work.

think the device will work quite well on the road. Support is poor, they will do anything but help you. They keep refering you to FAQ, when FAQ doesnt answer, I want an answer for a product that I paid almost 600$ for.
I cant even get to email them without digging and digging through the web site and when they answer they refer me back to the website talk about complete disconnect.

Try another brand with a better customer care. Trying to deal with the Tom Tom website and customer services is the worst experience I have ever had with any other product in my entire life and I am not young! Mine also got sent away and came back with exactly the same fault as it had had in the beginning, I had to start the whole process again. Tomorrow I am going to buy another make which is why I happened upon this website in the first place. (read more)

A basically good product until you have a problem. My Tom Tom 730 just cut out and then try and resolve the problem! Spend 30 minutes trying to solve the problem off the web site which of course you can't, you decide to phone, another 20 mins trying to find a number. You then find it and ring a premium number of course, but they are far too busy to speak to you and tell you to ring back later. You ring back later, of course they have all gone home by then and its too busy next day etc.
Until...

I Like the overall functions of the Tom Tom 730 sat nav, it is very easy to use, find the sat very fast and always on track. It is also quick to re rout if you get off track. Overall I really like this but I hope they can fix the quality of their screens. (read more)

The sat nav is the best tom tom to go for for the majority of us, the TomTom 730 has all the features of the Tom Tom 930 just without the us and canada mapping, so I would reccomend it, and the 329 price tag in Halfords can be dropped to 279 if you take in a print off of tescos price. (read more)

Would it be possible in the future for sat nav units like the TomTom GO 730 to include low bridges, and width restrictions in the POI's for HGV Drivers like myself without having to pay extra for them, as the Tomtom 730 unit I have cost over £300. (read more)

My advice is that you "reserve and collect" the TomTom 730T from Halfords - you check availability and reserve it on line, and collect in-store. You then pay the on-line price, which is £279.99 today (4th August 2008).
