this printer is now very old compared to the new ones but it works with windows 7 ad thats good because as long as this printer works im happy. the ink may cost a bit but i must say it does last alot longer than other cartridges for sale these days. i print alot some times and the ink does last me about 1 year. the printer is slow now (well it was made in 2004) but that doesn't mean its a bad printer. the picture quality is very good even if you use cheap ink the printer still surprises. hp... I have run my 940C for over 12 years without any problems. It has always proven to be reliable and economical on ink. I just wish my wife hadn't wrecked it clearing a paper jam. I had been printing on A5 paper which was still loaded and she tried to print A4 size and the paper picked up on the edge of the ink cartridge. She broke all the paper guides because she didn't want to tell me she had jammed it. Where can I get another one. (read more)

reliable for many years now. I have had it for over 10 years and it has never given any problems. It is economical on ink and cheap cartridges are readily available. My local ink supplier bought one second hand for his daughter when she went to college because he knew it would save him money on running costs.
I dread the day I have to replace this old friend. A bit on the noisy side while printing. Mine is on a wall bracket and you can hear ir printing in the next room.

The HP Deskjet 940c is an efficient little thing, replaced it only because it is now about 6 years old. Make sure you install the printer software first before you connect the printer to the computer! (read more)

Print quality appears better than some newer models
I've had my printer for over 4 years, have printed 1,000s of documents, excellent dependability, quality printing and very reasonably priced when new. Well recommend HP Deskjet 940c.

Like many HP Deskjet printers before it (eg. Deskjet 850C, 930C) and others following it (eg. Deskjet 3820) the Deskjet 940C uses HP's tried and tested technology to produce good quality prints economically.
The front paper-load-and-eject design makes efficient use of the printer's reasonably small desk-top 'footprint'.
The original HP ink cartridges are the C6578A tri-colour (38ml) and the C6615D black (25ml). The HP black ink cartridge is small by HP's usual standards for a machine that...

I found this review very helpful because... I learned about the margins required to set up for word documents / how economical on ink/ how compatible with compatible inks / how good with black n white photo- I have acquired a second hand 940 c and am encouraged by review to keep this printer which gives better colour than my cannon mp700 all in one which Ive had to discard after 3 years [ waste ink taNK FULL] AND TOO COSTLY TO TO REPAIR- but 940 does not seem to take thicker paper?? for cards??I have just printed my first cards using seif publishing program and colour is better than cannon on thin card--- cannon adjusts for thickness of paper- cant find that facility on HP

Very reliable printer for the two years I have owned it from new. Nothing broke and prints were good all the time, even the red ones when the ink started to run short! (read more)

If you had asked me a couple of days ago what I thought of the printer, I would have given it 9 stars overall. A printer that only last 7 months is not a good value. Maybe I just got a lemon, but HP's short warranty makes fixing a relatively inexpensive printer ($140.00) cost prohibitive. I'll be going back to Epson. (read more)

Many low cost printers have low print cartridge ink capacity, such as 14 ml or 10 ml; the cost of the cartridges are about the same for 10 ml or 42 ml; the HP Deskjet 940c inkjet printer takes the 25 ml; I paid $99 for this printer at OfficeMax (Tucson, AZ, USA); the HP 960 is the least cost printer I've seen taking the 42 ml at $200; the 25 ml and 42 ml cartridges cost the same ($30 US). The low cost Lexmark printers have much better software, with wav files to let you know when your spool... (read more)
