Bought Nov 2008. Great to start with but battery has been dead for last 2 years. New ones very expensive so I just use mains. System gets hot and crashes occassionally. Issues starting to creep in with loading. At time of writing I've been trying for over an hour to boot the thing up! Seriously thinking of getting all my stuff off this laptop and putting it onto a Samsung, which my family have.

I got this "Free" with AOL broadband/phone deal. However after about 18 months I unplugged it from the power and it went off. Put it back on charge, for a while, same thing again. Bough new power supply £40 Maplins, same problem. Found problem is power socket centre pin, put 1cm very thin wire inside centre hole, bent over to an L shape, suddenly charging works fine. However original battery is worn out. Bought new battery (not Dell original much cheaper, better capacity ones out there if you look £60.)Laptop now working as normal. Poor design of power connector. I am a Secondary School teacher and certainly wouldn't buy these for use in a school.

Dell Inspiron 1525 is not a bad laptop, but my wireless card's performance is mediocre. Does anyone else have this problem with the 1525?

I bought an Inspiron 1525 which arrived quickly and without any issues. However I use the laptop for work when abroad. If I'm just editing a Word doc or Spreadsheet it's absolutely fine.
The DVD player is fine but the speakers are poor so you'll need separate speakers or headphones. Cheap and cheerful/good back up but you probably need to upgrade to something more powerful if you plan on doing a lot of work.

This Dell Inspiron 1525 is a very good looking laptop, and when i bought it there was an offer where i got a free coloured backing of my choice and webcam (which has yet to fail me). I also chose the 9 cell battery i think it is instead of the 6 cell which has made so much difference and can use it for ages without having to plug it in. probably around the 2 hour mark depending on what im doing. (it lasted for about 2 hours while playing sims (yes its sad) on a car journey once. One of the keys to the keyboard fell off (which was admittedly my fault because i dropped something on the edge of it and it came off) but i rang dell up and they were very helpful and i had it delivered to my specified place on my specified day, and the guy gave me directions to the page which instructed me on how to dismantle it and put on the new keyboard and then rang me up on the day it came through in the evening and talked me through fixing it. He was incredibly helpful and i would buy any dell laptop just because of the excellent customer service they give.
Because i bought it via the internet all of the programs id asked for were already on there (which may be normal i dont know) but yeh. apart from the touchpad sticking and its crashing every now and again (which again may just be this computer and none of the others as i have yet to read any other reviews) its a good laptop which looks good, works well, its nice and easy to use (most of the time) battery is bloody good (providing you get the 9 cell one) and dell as a company are fantastic!

I bought a new computer because my old one (also a Dell Inspiron, 4 years old now) has started to become slow and the fan runs almost all the time, which is incredibly annoying to listen to! Therefore, I was quite disappointed to discover that the fan on this one also runs frequently. Although it doesn't make as much noise as the old one, it takes less for i t to start. I am sending this computer back and buying another one.
All in all, if you don't mind the fan noise, I would definitely recommend this computer! My experience with Dell PCs is that they are usually of very good quality and last long.

Old Latitude with pentium3, for business are more ergonomical with their double touch pad buttons and track point. I think that new notebook with older C600 keyboard design, especially two buttons groups for touch pad & track point is that ,what I should have.

1. The wifi adapter is not built in the motherboard, and couldn't be automatically detected hence I got problems installing its driver.
2. The driver for the card was not included with the included drivers disc, and I had to go back to the Dell distributor to configure it, where then provided the driver.
3. Comparing it to the latitude, it is not as rugged, the screen doesn't have a lock button, no extra pointing device like the latitude, and the keyboard layout is not as nice as the latitude, especially with the layout of the home, end, page up, page down.
Buy it if you are on low budget and need something good to work on.
Opt out to a latitude family if you can afford it. period.

It has a very nice face, but video is strict that it can not run guest os's of virtual pc/box. A friend's laptop with nice, sleek design. Infact the only bad points I have experienced is the video has problems. However I do recommend the Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.
