“Streaky and tins are different colours!”

Written on: 03/06/2015 by MathiasNewman (1 review written)

shocking paint, but not sure if its just B&Q stock thats bad. We bought two tins from Homebase that were more expensive than B&Q's and that paint went on fine. The tins we bought from B&Q though were dreadful! Streaky, different colours so we cant even touch up one room we did for fear of making things worse and I now have to re-cut in all the paintwork already done on one room since I ran out of one tin and the second coat dried a completely different colour! I bought crown thinking it was… Read Full Review

“Crown Emulsion Paint”

Written on: 31/05/2015 by hbDickinson211 (1 review written)

I too wish I had seen these reviews before spending weeks of work and spending about £100 on Crown paint for our large lounge, painted on new plaster after more than 5 coats on some walls the effect is still patchy (and I was only using a very light colour, Antique Cream). I then gave up and thought it was the best job I could do and resigned myself on having to put pictures over bits I was unhappy with. However, carpet fitters came and laid carpet and the walls now look like they were painted… Read Full Review

“Crown Indulgence - Terrible”

Written on: 17/03/2015

Bought this on special offer from B&Q which seemed like a great deal - it really WAS too good to be true! The paint is a nightmare!! You could not get rid of the streaks and patches or brush marks despite coat after coat - by far the WORST paint I have ever used. It looked like a five year old had been let loose with a paint brush. Resolved the problem by going to a decor shop and having some Leyland paint mixed in a similar colour. Wish we had read the previous reviews… Read Full Review

“Breatheasy Matt ”

Written on: 10/02/2015 by jinty70 (1 review written)

Painted all our hallway (which has a high ceiling) and doors with this paint and wished we hadn't. Wherever you put your hands on any of the woodwork it ends up looking really dirty, which happened a very short time after it had been painted. Trying to clean it is near impossible. We tried cleaning fluids and even used bath cleaning cream to get dirty marks off, which eventually worked but needed lots of elbow grease!! Now we need to repaint!! Terrible paint that we won't use ever again!!… Read Full Review

“Watery”

Written on: 11/11/2014 by Zayden120 (1 review written)

Watery paint that drips and does not cover. As you roll over where you have just been, it lifts off! Second coat as bad as the first, going to give up on it and buy a different brand. I will take it back to the shop and try for a refund!? I thought Crown was supposed to be good! Don't like anything about it… Read Full Review

“Total and Utter Pants”

Written on: 31/10/2014 by HeliWeli (1 review written)

What a total waste of money, three coats and counting and the paint still not covers properly, we thought we would try Crown for a change always thinking it was supposed to be good, wish I'd read the reviews first! Even if you applied it with a trowel it still won't cover nicely. Will be cutting my losses now and finding an equivalent colour in Dulux and starting all over again. I didn't like anything about this paint it's total utter rubbish!… Read Full Review

“Over coating”

Written on: 21/09/2014 by AmirahMoss243 (1 review written)

Bought Crown Matt Emulsion from B&Q, bad idea. I have always done my own decorating over the last 45 years but have never used a worse emulsion. Cutting in with a brush was terrible. Paint came back off with return stroke so had to lay it on too thick so that when roller used the brushed coat took 4/5 coates to match. A terrible product that should not be on the shelves at any store. No wonder it's on offer at the moment????… Read Full Review

“Crown Emulsion impossible to use”

Written on: 18/09/2014

I know there have been a lot of changes to what you can put in paint so that may impact on how easy it is to use . . . . BUT the crown ivory cream I am trying to put up in a previously all white bedroom is completely rubbish! So demoralising spending so much time on a project and you just can't get it right. Am on to my third coat of paint, already planning my fourth and it's still patchy, and what a previous reviewer said is true! Where you cut in the corners with a brush it dries a… Read Full Review

“Crown Luxury Matt emulsion - trust me, just don't...”

Written on: 25/08/2014 by chaholl (3 reviews written)

Bought a few tins of Crown Luxury Matt emulsion to paint a sitting room. Without doubt the worst paint I have ever used. It's a completely different shade when applied with a brush compared to when applied with a roller. The difference is such that you could easily spot it when walking past the window from the street outside! I applied three coats in all. The first two with a roller, before finally abandoning that idea and going for a brush for the final coat so it'd match the cut-in's. It's… Read Full Review

“Crown paints are rubbish”

Written on: 17/07/2014 by MakenzieFlanagan (1 review written)

I have now used two tins of Crown silk emulsion on a small kitchen and after three coats the results are still very patchy. This despite the new colour being a very similar colour to the last paint job. Very frustrating!… Read Full Review

“Waste of Time”

Written on: 06/07/2014

We used Crown Fashion for Walls Matt Euphoria on our hall stairs and landing- dreadful results ! Used 3 tins of paint in total just on one side of stairs and hall ( used a toning colour on the opposite side) to try and get an even finish. It isn't it's appalling! Rang Crown who told us to dilute it - still patchy, uneven and if you dare rub against it it marks. Waste of time money and effort! All has to be re-done. Will use DULUX in future. Will never buy Crown again. Very disappointing… Read Full Review

“Crown solo... Rubbish !!”

Written on: 07/12/2013 by Cinderfordboy (1 review written)

Crown wheatgrass solo... Used in the hall on top of magnolia... So far on our 4th coat !!! Bought 3 tins just in case, used all 3 and to add insult to injury the 3rd tin went on a completely different shade to the first two... Now having to re do even the bits that didn't, need re doing in the first place as we are not really going for the zebra stripe effect by choice. Dulux in future all the way. Agree with all the other previous comments… Read Full Review

“crown should abdicate”

Written on: 06/10/2013 by hayesdecorating (1 review written)

i am a self employed painter and decorator and in the course of my work use allsorts of wierd an wonderful paints , generally most of the home brands that the stores sell are not great but will do the job if the existing paintwork is in good fettle, by far the best paint ( an it grieves me to say it ) is Dulux and if you are going to decorate i would recommend saving up for it if your on a budget, the finish is always good and it lasts , the best of the stores own brands are homebase with a… Read Full Review

“Avoid Crown emulsion - utter garbage !”

Written on: 23/08/2013 by Dadiodude (1 review written)

We've always used Dulux but this time around we picked Crown for some bedrooms. Never again! how this company can produce such a shockingly bad product and charge premium prices astounds me. Coverage and opacity are dreadful and its going to cost twice as much time and money to do very minor colour changes compared to our normal brand. I feel completely ripped off by this manufacturer. As a side note - it also smells vaguely of urine… Read Full Review

“Do not buy!”

Written on: 09/04/2013 by RobertsR (1 review written)

We bought crown wheatgrass to change, ever so slightly, the shade of our living room. It took two coats as the paint was very runny. We also used crown eggshell brilliant white on the wood work. This still looks unfinished and patchy even after 3 coats. We will never use Crown again. Just to top it all off, we were touching up a couple of the walls to sell the house, bought a sample pot, and it's dried a completely different shade. You have been warned!… Read Full Review

“Absolute rubbish!”

Written on: 14/03/2013

Well, I wish I'd read these reviews before I started painting my bedroom! I have a wall of built in cupboards and a wallpapered feature wall so thought that painting the remaining two walls and ceiling would only be a small job. Wrong! I chose Crown paint as I've used it in the past with no problems, but how things have changed. I did the coving and cutting in with a brush, ever time I tried to apply more paint it dragged off the previous bit. The paint's consistency was closer to milk! And… Read Full Review

“matt emulsion disaster”

Written on: 09/04/2012

I decided to redecorate both my lounge and dining area recently. I chose wheatgrass solo for my living room which was wallpapered in one of those textured lining papers designed for paint to be used on top. I had previously used homebase paint on this and had been very happy with the results. After 2 coats it was extremely patchy and no amount of repainting solved the problem. I contacted crown who tried to make it out it was the wallpaper even though I told them of previously happy… Read Full Review

“I bought a 2.5 ltr tin of Crown Indulgence paint-City...”

Written on: 27/04/2010

I bought a 2.5 ltr tin of Crown Indulgence paint-City Life paint. It's matt emulsion. The colour itself is beautiful-lovely navy blue. I painted a medium sized room with 2 coats- from the first tin but the paint was very hard to apply-even after stirring and brush marks still showed! Now I was using a good brush and I've painted other rooms which have turned out perfect (with Dulux might I add) but I had to buy another tin of paint and after 4 coats brush marks are still showing! 50 quid spent… Read Full Review
