“Bought it from PCWB, and the sales service was great....”

★★★★★

written by adamhornsby on 22/09/2008

Bought it from PCWB, and the sales service was great. It was 160 including shipping to the store. The salesman was friendly and we even had it delivered to our car, when it arrived there. Its a large box for such a small printer, but the packaging looked well designed, and held the printer perfectly. On first inspection, the printer looked very well built, rather than the cling film plastic Lexmark all-in-one inkjet it is replacing, and its weight proves it, even though it is such a small device. I chose it, as I fancied a laser, colour obviously, reliability and an compact all in one, mainly because I have limited desk space. It fits the job perfectly, and I havent seen hardly any colour laser multifunction devices, albeit the ones I have seen are larger and much more expensive. Set up was easy, just put the disk in, and press OK, and bob's your uncle, not unlike the tricky lemark software. The paper tray is handy, but I had difficulty with this. When I first lifted it out of the box, the tray was flush in the machine, as soon as you take it out and add paper, it sticks out. I was worrying whether I'd broken it, but that evening I tilted it, and guess what, the paper tray was all the way in! I did email Samsung customer support, and the next day they told me it is supposed to do that. You see, there is no physical paper manual, unlike other printers, only a quick start guide, which didn't tell me this. You can download one, but apparently there is one installed with the drivers. It's got good connectivity, as it even has a USB socket on the front, so you can print from it, and even scan to it. I plugged it in, but it can only read Microsoft Word compatibility format, not the new 2007 format, which is a bit dissapointing. It scans great, the actual TWAIN format in Photoshop CS3 is good, and you can keep importing imagery, rather than clicking back to the Import menu. Its relatively quick at importing and previewing which is important if you have a lot of imagery, and all the tools are conveniently located at the side. Printing is also excellent, it zips through documents like lightening, even coloured documents. The colour is vivid, the type is sharp and the images are well defined- even those from the Internet, and as a graphic's student, this is important. The toners are relatively cheap to buy, around £30 for each toner, but they last for 1000 pages each, the black 2000 pages, so they are hardly going to deplete quickly. I also believe you can buy a complete toner refill kit from eBay, but whether this is as good as buying new toner, I dont know, it also voids the warranty. Even at this time, it has impressed me, and I'm sure it will last for many years to come.
