“Great car- Conn Tourer diesel”

★★★★☆

written by roverman on 17/10/2012

Have done 50k miles in this car and now at 155k miles still drives superbly and copes with terrible island roads and a huge amount of abuse. Only problem water in the plenum, which the owners club forum resolved quickly- must make sure this is kept clear of water as will affect ecu. My only gripe- and I seem to be the only one with this problem- leather seats are too squashy and incredibly uncomfortable for long drives. trim over door threshold falls off too but its no big deal. Will buy another one if and when this one finally expires.

“Diagnostic for Rover 75”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/10/2011

I like my Rover 75 diesel estate its big and very comfortable and you get great miles to gallon nice car. I am having a problem finding out why she dosent start sometimes. The garage said it need new glow-plugs maybe it dose but it still dose it when engine is hot. I think it might be electrical cause when I turn my ignition on if I dont here the pumps I no its not going to start, if I lift the bonnet and give the pumpa a we shake the pumps come on. I know the pumps are working good when I am driving I can get 4500 rev easy. Dose any one knows the best diagnostic tool for a Rover 75 diesel BMW Engine 2002 reg

I have the 1.8t 150bhp,which is faster than the 2 litre v6,it has prooven reliable.
only thing i can say if you like these get one, keep an eye on the water and if you suspect a gasket leak put in k-weld,which can be purchased on ebay which should help guard against the dreaded head gasket failure,if you look after it the car it will reward you with many miles of trouble free motoring.
Ive owned many cars and can say these are no worse than others,be choosy when buying low miles, check for white sludge in oil and same in expansion bottle, pull dip stick out,oil on this should be black and not a brown colour if it is brown run a mile.
when you decide to keep this car in 10 yrs time these will be considered a classic and be worth more than you orginally paid if you look after your car.

“I own a 2000 model of the Rover 75 Club SE, 2.0 V6...”

★★★★☆

written by usscyrene on 31/08/2010

I own a 2000 model of the Rover 75 Club SE, 2.0 V6 petrol with 5-speed manual box. I bought it cheap 3 years ago and, to be fair, its a good, functional car-certainly a lot of car for the money they sell for. Other the usual maintenance (clutch, brake pads, 2 tyres and, recently, brake pipes and rear exhaust section), it is reliable.
Driving the car, I put in on a par with my old Jaguar XJ6. The suspension is smooth, the engine purrs beautifully on the motorways and the cream coloured dials help give it a retro-period look inside. The boot is huge, the rear seat sits 3 comfortably.
Its not that economical about town and the rear seats don't fold down; I'd class this as a perfect motorway car that has a smart prescence on the road.

“PLEASE READ AS THIS CAN BE USEFUL TO YOU.I HAVE OWNED...”

★★★★☆

written by on 05/03/2010

PLEASE READ AS THIS CAN BE USEFUL TO YOU.I HAVE OWNED MY 75 CLUB TOURER FOR ONE YEAR AND COVERED 10,000 MILES. ITS A BRILLIANT CAR AND HANDLES BRILLIANTLY. MINE IS THE 2LTR V6. I WOULD NEVER HAVE CHOSEN THE 1.8 BECAUSE OF THE HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS. SO WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR IS THE TRUTH AND THINGS THAT ARE LIKELY TO GO WRONG AND HOW TO AVOID THEM.
FIRSTLY MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 5000 MLS. THIS IS THE CARS BLOOD AND WILL ALWAYS GIVE YOU TOP PERFORMANCE (DO NOT USE CHEAP OIL AS ITS A FALSE ECONOMY.)
1) DODGY HEATER SENSOR (IF YOUR COOLING FAN STAYS ON PERMENENTLY WHEN ENGINE IS SWITCHED OFF AND YOUR TEMP GUAGE DOES NOT REGISTER. EASY FIXY (NEW SENSOR.. GARAGE WILL CHARGE ABOUT 80 POUNDS INC THE NEW SENSOR
2) MANUAL GEAR SHIFT BECOMES STIFF AND CANNOT ENGAGE SMOOTHLY OR NOT AT ALL.
THIS IS NOT YOUR CLUTCH...ITS THE CLUTCH FLUID...HAVE IT DRAINED AND CLEANED BUT GET IT DONE AT A GARAGE AS THE BLEED NIPPLE IS IN THE ENGINE BAY AND YOU WILL NEED SPECIALIST TOOLS AND 2 PEOPLE TO DO IT AS ONE OF THE RESEVOIRS IS LOCATED UNDER THE CLUTCH PEDAL. A GARAGE WILL NOT CHARGE ALOT FOR THIS AND SAVES YOU GETTING A CRINKED NECK AND SWEARING ALOT.
3) ENGINE CUTS OUT AND WILL NOT START EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE TURNS OVER.
THERE ARE 2 POSSIBLE CAUSES...THE IMMOBILISER UNDER THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT NEEDS TO BE RESET(READ HANDBOOK)YOU WILL NEED A PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER AND SMALL HANDS!! OR 2, ANOTHER SENSOR HAS BLOWN LOCATED IN THE MOST STUPID OF PLACES UNDER THE CAR AND IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AT UNLESS YOU ARE A CONTORSIONIST SO IF ITS NUMBER 2 TAKE IT TO A GARAGE AS THEY WILL PLUG THEIR COMPUTER IN AND FIX THE PROBLEM (ABOUT 50 POUNDS)PLUS THE SENSOR.
WELL THATS ABOUT IT AND I HOPE I HAVE BEEN OF SOME USE. THE ONLY GRIPE I HAVE WITH THE CAR IS THE BULB CHANGES...FRONT AND REAR....REALLY STUPID LAYOUT...LOTS OF SWEARING AND BITS THAT FALL OFF AND CANT RETRIEVE!!!

“I bought my rover club 2.0 turbo diesel new in 2003,...”

★★★★★

written by on 23/05/2009

I bought my rover club 2.0 turbo diesel new in 2003, and have found it to be the best car I have ever had. Maybe it is because I am retired now, but its comfort and reliability with its bmw engine and its jaguar interior and 35-40 mpg influences my decision making. Seeing I have had it over six years now, it feels like wearing comfortable well broken in slippers. As regards bad points, they did not provide a chaeffeur with the car to open the cocktail cabinet.

written by fudge1 on 07/03/2009

My Rover 2000 75 cdt diesel has been a very reliable cheap to run family car over the past two years, I have managed to do all the servicing at home without any problems. The interior and exterior is comfy and durable but not as robust as bmw s or audi but much better than lesser rover models. After 2 years of ownership and 20,000 miles i would recommend the 75 . Cheap running costs for a large car with the diesel models ,overall the build is very durable with a chassis which will take high mileage with ease. I am told by my local fitters and motor factors that some parts are now a little thin on the ground but I have been able to obtain all the service items without problem. Some trim items have needed attention but on the hole a solid car for the money.

★★★★★

written by dominofan on 03/02/2009

On the whole I am very pleased with my Rover75 Club and agree it is a great pity that they are no longer in production . The fuel pump problem is a bit worrying due to the cost although is it a problem with the car or the fuel suppliers. I was forever singing my rover 75 tdi 2ltrs praises and was comparing with a BMW5 series which I owned until everything started to go wrong 3 cat converters electrical problems hopeless in winter weather on the slightest incline,Volvo480
le door hinges parted company with car both those cost a lot of cash to buy and repair.the rover I could not fault and have been very happy with it 52,000 miles later . I do believe that due to contaminated diesel that the fuel pumps of which there are 3 are prone to failure and become gunged up this is due to bacteria in the fuel and water getting in somehow ,to replace the 3 pumps is not cheap.I had to replace all 3. I have been advised by service garage to add diesel treatment to the fuel one bottle every 6 months it to is not cheap £12 per bottle it is called forte.

A great car, poised and great to drive. Not a car to speed in more one to cruise in. 1.8 struggles with the weight of the car, best go for a 2ltr or the 1.8T. Inside the vintage theme continues with the retro dials etc. Air con controls are one of the best I've seen and ensures all onboard are comfortable.

The Rover 75 is a poor mans Jaguar a lovely car reliable but the 1.8 engine is dodgey great handling nice to be seen in as well as good for all occasions and wouldn't look out of place on my drive ten years or more. I like it and would get another when my current one dies its sad a great company.

written by stevepink85 on 19/04/2007

I love these cars, their looks, their handling, their build quality and spec. The only criticism I have it the k-series engine; I admit it was a revolutionary engine being made out of aluminium etc but it is fragile.

Do not labour these engines, rev them higher instead. Check coolant weekly, keep some in the huge boot just in case. I have had my head gasket replaced (along with a cylinder head re-build) with a Land Rover Freelander type (the k-series has a layer of silicone making it even more weak).

I will let you know if it goes again. Three month warranty, but upon reading other reviews it will need another one after that.

If it happens again, I am going to chuck the k-series as it has an obvious fault that Rover never sorted and replace it with something such as a Volvo 2.2 5 cyl......

The cars are great, Don't go for leather - the velour is much nicer. If you want a petrol over the superior diesel (which I do, for some reason) replace it with Volvo etc over repair.

Do not buy a V6 - these cost about £3000 to repair a head gasket, where a 1.8 costs £700.

★★★★★

written by Jsherwood2 on 13/02/2007

I love the Rover 75 Club, it was a 2005 1.8T Conn with 11,000 miles on the clock and I got it for £7000. Another dealer wanted to know where I got it so he could buy some of them and sell them for a profit! It has great refinements and love the comm centre which lets you know when the screen wash is almost out (very useful). It has a auto-dim rear-view mirror and parking sensors too. By far the best thing is that I have been able to convert it to LPG and would whole heartedly recommend it for any Rover 75 owner. I am spending less than half on fuel now and have no loss of performance and no loss of space due to having a toroidal tank in the wheel well. LPG causes engine wear to be reduced by up to 30% due to less pollutants and acids in the engine. I would be happy to recommend my installer as well, as he was previously registered as an installer for Rover (the 1.8 was offered as an LPG car too before they went bust).

written by Palmer75 on 12/11/2005

If you want more than an A - B car journey then you'll understand why the Rover 75 makes sense. The wonderful experience is about how you feel as well as how it drives. I smile every time I get in my Connoisseur SE. Owned since new and covered 95k miles with no problems. Soothing to be in, with all the luxury extras including Sat Nav and TV system. My 75 is practical too as the rear seats fold and motorway driving delivers 50 mpg. The beautiful Wedgewood blue colour and chrome trim continue to invite a proud look over the shoulder as I walk away from the car park. Whilst most admirers think it is a Jag, I know that it is far better value than that. It's the best car I have owned and I have had many in my 30 years of driving.

Bought the Rover 75 Club secondhand on the day Rover went bankrupt. It is not a fast car but wonderful to drive. You really feel safe in it. It feels solid. Very comfortable and nice interior, wonderful seats, even in the back, excellent climate control. Cooling fan broke down on a hot day after 65000km's and 4.5 years, very costly to repair. No further problems. Hope to keep it for many years!

Agree 2000 V6 is a very good, very reliable good looking solid executive car but lacks the sparkle of the 2.5 V6 75 and is in fact not much faster than the 1.8 or the diesel.

written by zonco on 16/08/2005

Marvelous car the Rover 75 Club only four wheeled drive car I have ever owned that handled properly but the 1.8k series isn't up to the job it lacks low speed torque and is harsh at high RPM. The old Rover T16 engine from the 820 or the Honda Twincan from the Rover 623 would be much more suited. If buying again would go for either 1.8 turbo or 131 ps diesel. Re build quality the later Longbridge built cars better are much better than the earlier BMW Oxford. The way to tell is Oxford cars have matt black door sills.
