I’ve been waiting on a refund of over 170 since the 21st of November, I’ve been chasing them and at the moment haven’t received a response in one week. Avoid at all costs

“Horrendous Customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/11/2023

Never ever purchase anything from Evans Cycles. The incompetence of their customer service will leave you astounded at their level of professionalism. You are repeatedly promised that you will receive an update within 48 hours which you never do, and then if all end fails, they say that as a consumer you can ask for a refund after 30 days. Worst customer service I have ever had. This is from Wikipedia "In 2019, despite many store closures following the insolvency, the company opened its 4th Glasgow store and an additional branch in Shirebrook, both within flagship TRI UK stores.[12] After the takeover by Sports Direct there were complaints about poor customer service, which formerly had been very good, according to those customers"

“MORE awful customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by simes303 on 07/11/2023

Well, MORE terrible service from Evans Cycles in Sheffield... I wrote a review on Trust Pilot on 12 September 2023 because my front brake pads had worn out in two months and the shop refused to replace them free of charge even though there was clearly a fault. NOW, yesterday (06/11/2023) I noticed that the rear brake disk was only held on by two bolts, both of which were very loose (there should be six). As a result the disk had cracked. Had the disk jammed in the caliper or wheel because of this I could have been badly hurt. I don't know if the other four bolts fell off or just weren't there to start with. It didn't occur to me to check if a brand new nearly £400 bike had crucial bolts missing. The guy in the shop said he would replace the bolts and order a replacement disk. He took the wheel off my bike and then spent ten minutes helping another customer who had arrived after me which was pretty rude. When I eventually got the bike back he had replaced the disk with a used one (without asking me if this was okay). When I left the shop I found that my rear brake no longer worked. I went back. The guy said that "I might have got some grease on the disk, it will wear off", as if that somehow made it okay for me to only have one working brake. The staff in this store don't seem to be fit for the job. Grease on the disk? Don't worry, it will wear off? That's really bad. I will be taking it back again very soon if my rear brake continues to not work. Please be aware that Evans is not the shop that it used to be as it has been taken over by Sports Direct. This may explain the very poor and uncaring service. Buy your bike somewhere else and save yourself a lot of hassle.

“Do not order online”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SariahMoran on 03/11/2023

Do not order online! The worst online shopping experience I have ever had. Online bike size guidance is completely inaccurate and very misleading. Returns information does not mention that the bikes arrive in boxes the size of a wardrobe. Quotes for return were over a £100. Feel totally ripped off by Evans. Have spent a fortune to return the bike that was completely the wrong size due to ridiculously inaccurate information on the website. Customer service is appalling. Three days on the phone to even get anyone to pick up. Do not order online!

“No pedals or charger and delivered with a broken grip!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BeccaLarks on 07/10/2023

My partner ordered his bike online, it arrived in a shocking condition, with a broken grip, no pedals and no charger! He contacted the company straightaway who provided an email address to send photos to - which he did straightaway on Wednesday - and he's yet to have a response! For a company selling high ticket items, you'd hope they'd use a reputable courier service, unfortunately this isn't the case

“DONT USE EVANS CYCLES EVER”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GarethDarby on 03/10/2023

DONT USE EVANS CYCLES EVER Bought a bike in a hurry because mine broke and had a weekend away cycling planned. Used Evans Cycles online as thought big established company would be easy. Bike delivered. On my first ride the chain fell off a couple of times. Continued to ride to work (2 miles on tarmac) for 2 days before taking it to my local store at the weekend. Explained to the guys in the shop (Sutton branch) it was delivered that week and the chain keeps falling off. From the beginning to the end of my time in the shop the assistants pretty much accused me (without saying it directly) of breaking the bike but one said he would bend something back and remove a link from the chain to make it fit again. £750 it cost. It felt they were implying I should be grateful for whatever help they offered. I got comments like, I've not asked you for a receipt, I can see its been used and the online store would need to authorize any work etc. Although the assistant seemed competent enough, he defiantly had that "I am doing you a fav our" attitude. I am a customer! Just to be clear, I had hardly used the bike and certainly hadn't damaged it. It was stored in my garage on a holder and ridden only on the road for 8 miles for 2 days before I took it to the shop. Nothing or nobody had gone near the bike. I then explained I want a bike that is perfect for my £750 not one that has been bent back into shape. After the cycling weekend, where the chain continued to fall off, the gears jump and brakes judder and scrape, I contacted their customer support to try and get this resolved. This is where it got worse! Its by email only apparently. I sent the initial email explaining my issues. Some days later I then got a reply asking for a photo. I then explained the chain falling off is hard to photo. Anyhow, the email chain got longer and longer. It seemed like I was dealing with a team who all accessed the same calls but would all occasionally update the ticket with their comment. really disjointed awkward frustrating email conversation. It finally ended with me just asking if I could talk to them as I don't think the email conversation is working. They said no. I asked for a contact of someone senior in the company they said no because of GDPR. I said please can you call me then and gave them my number, they didn't. I'm not sure where to go with this now, if it gets even worse I plan to email a few media organizations to see if its worthy of a story. But am planning to try and inform people not to use Evans Cycles and spare themselves the agony. Its so bad its laughable. I think they are a company in financial trouble. I really can see why!! AVOID AVOID AVOID.

“Shocking Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/04/2023

Shocking Service!! I planned to order a new road bike online two weeks ago, but after contacting the Assistant Manager at Chester store for some help, he advised that I came in to double check the measure and that my order would be processed much more quickly through the store than on line. Chester is my closest store but still nearly 15 miles away. I have been chasing this delivery ever since and despite repeated calls to the Assistant Mgr and the Store Manager who both assured me that my bike would be delivered to the store imminently, I am still without a bike. In desperation I managed to get in touch with head office so called Customer Service, who after checking with the store tell me that my bike is out of stock and may never be back in stock again. He also suggested that I drive all the way back to the store to get a refund as this cannot be processed in any other way. He stated that there was nothing more he could do and would not give me the names of any of the senior management team to speak to as that was personal information. I cannot understand how Evans Cycles can call this customer service of any sort. It is shocking that large companies like this treat customer's with such contempt with no come backs. I have wasted my time travelling to the store, not to mention the costs of fuel both ways and furthermore I had bought new pedals for the bike from another retailer which will now cost me money to return. This was my first and now last time I will ever use Evans for any cycling needs. A terrible experience and all should avoid this company with standards like this.

“Misleading information”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Meyerio410 on 24/03/2023

I bought a MuddyFox synergy bike from the Evans Cycle website, with click and collect to your Stockport store. When I received the email saying the bike had arrived in store it states:- YOUR ORDER IS READY FOR YOU IN 48HRS Your order is nearly ready to collect. Please allow 48 hours for your bike to be built and then collect it from your chosen store. Please bring proof of ID and this confirmation message to collect your parcel. If you nominate someone else to pick up the order, they must bring your ID and the Pick-up code as well as their own ID. Please note that we can only keep your order in the store for up to four weeks before it gets returned to the warehouse. The key line from the confirmation is this:- Please allow 48 hours for your bike to be built and then collect it from your chosen store. I went to the store 48 hours later to be told there is a £25 charge to build and it is stated on the website. The Website states the following Please note: All Muddyfox bikes are sold in boxes and are only part constructed. Please be aware that you will be required to fit certain parts and make setup adjustments to components such as the gears and brakes prior to use and also on an ongoing basis for maintenance purposes. We charge a £25 build fee for in-store orders of Muddyfox bikes The key information We charge a £25 build fee for in-store orders of Muddyfox bikes. It state IN STORE The website on the same page states under easy assembly Your bike will arrive carefully packed from one of our trained experts. To ensure safe shipping, and avoid damage to the bike whilst in transit, some basic assembly is required when it arrives with you. The process is simple and the box includes all the tools and instructions you need to get your bike ride-ready in no time. You can also select click and collect or take the bike to your local Evans Cycles store who can complete the build and carry out a full safety check (£25 fee applies). Which is different information again. This contradicts the email Please allow 48 hours for your bike to be built and then collect it from your chosen store. Under terms conditions (dated 19th August 2020) there is no mention of build costs or any charges for specific items, there are protections that you have the right to cancel an order if there is an incorrect price. Under your store information it states CAN I HAVE MY ORDER DELIVERED TO MY LOCAL STORE? Yes. You can select Click & Collect when placing your order via our website. The store will inform you once the order has arrived and is ready for collection. If your order contains a bike, the store will ensure the bike is built up and ready to ride from the store. This correlates to the emails sent out. When talking to the customer services team they advised it is store decision, the store says no it is online team. Both blame each other. I was told emails are generic and nothing they can do about it. If the emails are so generic then the template is incorrect and misleading by stating the bike will be built. The website has contradictory information which is leading to Evans cycles having misinformation which is not correct to the consumer, this protection for the consumer is covered 2008 As the store and Customer services team were blaming each other and then said oh its company policy it has left me no choice but to take the bike home and build it myself when it would have been good if it could have been built in store. I was hopeful that the customer services team would have been able to have wiaved the £25 build charge due to the misinformation but she put the blame on the shop. She also advised that she would raise the issue with the email to IT.

“Gone to the dogs - AVOID! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Avoidevans on 29/05/2022

What used to be a friendly, knowledgeable store has gone completely to the dogs. I booked my bike in for a straightforward repair. They failed to complete (or even start) the job on the day I had booked. A week later, I chased up to fund out what was happening and they told me it was ready to collect. The first time I rode the bike after collecting, it became clear they hadn't actually carried out the repair at all. I complained to both Evans and Sports Direct (who now own Evans, which explains a lot) and both refused to refund. I only got a refund in the end by issuing a chargeback thorough my bank. Avoid Evans at all costs is my very strong advice !

“OK buying a new bike, but for repairs DO NOT take it there”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Vaughnw26 on 28/05/2022

If you want to buy a brand new bike it might be fine but if you want your bike to be fixed, DO NOT take it there. My own experience when I took my bike and my daughters bike at the same time. My bike: I took it there to adjust the 3 position lever suspension, change the brake pads and a general service. When they gave it back to me after paying 125 pounds I realised in the shop that the front suspension was loosing air and the rear was not working. They said another 300 pounds to fix it (150 each) on top. I tried to explain them that my suspensions were working before, they were not customer friendly, they were rude and told ne "so next time do not bring your bike here" in a bad tone. After all this I pumped my front suspension so I could ride my bike for a few hours before the air was gone and when I was doing my first ride going down the hill one of my brakes failed loosing all the oil. After the really bad experience, I did not wat to argue and I did not trust them, so I took it to another shop and my surprise is when they called me to tell me that the front brake did not have any pad and sent me photos, apart from that they raised many other issues (the cable of the rear suspension was not adjusted...) . My daughters bike: I left the bike there so they could install a new chain. When they gave it back to me the new chain was installed. However the bike handlebar was gone and they said they could not fix it because they did not have the right bolt so I should take it to Halfords. I am still thinking why they removed the handlebar when I just ask gor a new chain. So after that, my daughters bike could not be fixed and went directly to the recycling point.

“New bike is not new”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/01/2022

I ordered a small folding bike online. It was delivered in a ridiculously large and tatty box, not the original packaging. The manufacturer's documentation was missing. I soon found evidence that the bike had previously been repaired. Customer service reply to my emails with evasion. I wish I'd chosen a more honest and decent supplier. I won't be buying from Evans again.

“Ridiculous...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by msErickson280 on 20/06/2021

Hi, I ordered a bicycle from the Hendon store on 1st of May.  The day I ordered the bike, the guy in the shop got my delivery address wrong. I was heading home when I got the confirmation email. I went back on the same day immediately, and the store closed at 6, I was there at 4 o'clock and the guys told me to write down my details because they are closing...This was the first thing you did wrong, and I have a lot more. I went back for the second time and told the guys the same problem, and they told me again to write down my details...It is a shame that you did this to me twice, and you couldn't even change the delivery address. I started to write complain emails at the start of JUNE! because I still had no bike, so I wrote to someone who was completely useless. She said she will check my order, but she did not. After one week I sent an another email, and I got a reply that my bike was delivered on 6th of May. Someone faked my signature with a capital "C" and "V" letter which is illegal. Now, when I went back to the shop twice before, they said that the manufacturer had not send the bike yet, but according to this paper, it was delivered then. You never delivered that bike to me, and you BLAMED ME, that it was my foult that I added the delivery address wrong. This guy in the shop, wrote it down wrongly, he did not read it back or showed me the details to check. I went back to the shop twice to change it. So after this, how could you think that it was my foult? Do you think all your customers are stupid? Or you think it is only me who is stupid? I paid almost a £1000 for a bloody bike that I have never seen, because you did not deliver it, and you blame the customer because it is the easy way... You have no interest to solve any problem. Shame on the shop in Hendon, they are all useless and rude and they treat customers badly. You still did not apologise for this ridiculous service, I want my money back, and I want a compensation bike for the trouble. Ridiculous service, shop, delivery, everything... Zero stars... I want everyone to know that this company thinks that their customers are stupid and they treat customers like crap... Never gonna buy again from Evans Cycles...

“DO NOT USE THEM”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mmRamsey1980 on 07/04/2021

Where to start!! Ok, I took advantage of the Cycle to Work scheme and chose Evans as the retailer as I had used them previously and they were pretty good. The first red flag came when despite being prompted to order online I find out I have to go in store. So I did this and the key question I asked the in store advisor was when could i expect to receive the goods. I was told "about a week" and when I pushed on this was told again "no more than a week" So I waited..... I then tried to contact Evans but they no longer take phone calls so I dealt with the web chat service. I'm now on my 7th attempt at finding out where the main part of the order is. Firstly someone told me it was dispatched on 31st March.... I checked the courier site and they haven't yet received the bike, so on Tuesday 6th April I spoke to another person who said she'd look into it and as yet she hasn't bothered to reply. I've subsequently spoken to a third person (Useless and patronising) a fourth (She just repeats herself and doesn't listen to a single word being said) and then finally I had the (dis)pleasure of anotehr. She's apparently a "Senior" who has absolutely no interest in resolving issues. She told me (in writing) that the bike had been dispatched at 15:43 YESTERDAY, she then backtracked today (7th April) and said the bike hadn't been dispatched and was waiting for the courier. DO NOT USE this company! They make it as if the PAYING CUSTOMER is the one in the wrong. If they don't like what you say on chat they will terminate the chat and they do nothing to resolve the issue. I have spent £1000 with these Charlatans and as yet I still don't have the goods! I don't expect them to do anything to resolve the issue and even if they do eventually dispatch the bike it's with Hermes and they are just as poor at dealing with customers as Evans are....... Use an independent retailer who will value your business more than this sinking ship. Evans will undoubtedly do bust in the very near future and the same staff who have invariably contributed to their downfall will be looking for employment elsewhere. Personally, I wouldn't employ these people as cleaners. At least cleaners are capable of doing what they are paid to do.

“WON'T BE BUYING ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN”

★☆☆☆☆

written by raresdescas on 12/11/2020

This summer I bought a Pinnacle Ramin 2 2020bike. It's an aggressive hardtail 29er plus bike. When i wanted to go tubeless, because both the tires and rims are compatible, I encountered a big dent in the front rim. To this day my front leaks slowly because of that dent. After not even 3 months of use the bottom bracket started to have problems. When I checked I found out that the spline was not conical, but cylindrical. One day I was doing some endos and the front brake caliper just broke off. After some googling I found this is a manufacturing issue. Those are obviously manufacturing errors and thus should be replaced by warranty means, because I DIDNT PAY FOR A BROKEN BIKE. After all of that, I decided to contact them. THEY DIDNT WANT TO REPLACE ANYTHING, telling me I just used the bike wrong, because somehow wheelies do "a lot of wear and tear" to trail bikes. In the description of this bike they say it's "ready for anything you can throw at it", and it can take you to a "multi-day ride over the high passes of the Himalayas". Really?? I think I will post a YouTube video about it, so I raise awareness of how they treat their customers.

“Disgusting, DONT EVEN BOTHER!!”

written by chanelkerr on 13/10/2020

One star is too generous! Without doubt the worst company i have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Ordered a bike 12th June for 5th July delivery. Still hasn't arrived yet over 3 months later. No one can tell me when it will be delivered. Can't call or live chat, only email which their customer service team conveniently ignore most of the time. No one wants to actually help to resolve the issue, they refuse to let me change my order to another model. Appears that the bike has come back into stock though i only found out because they are selling them again on the website!! Still no idea when mine will be delivered though, ive heard nothing from them. Happy to take peoples money but not deliver on bikes still owing!! Shocking!!DO NOT SHOP HERE. I wish i had read the reviews before purchasing!

It's the oddest purchase experience. (understood the unusual lockdown situation might give certain factors of it) My bad experiences include : - Incomplete delivery address thus delayed delivery. - Missing assembly tools. - Sending wrong e-bike charger of another brand. - Chasing for 4 weeks but not a single reply/feedback through multiple means. Getting less hope to find a solution to get my e-bile going.

“Bike order cancelled after 4 months”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Westont13 on 17/06/2020

I ordered and paid for a custom bike (buy all the parts from Evans and they build the bike for you) in Feb from Evans Wimbledon store. After four months Evans advised they didn’t know where any of the parts for my bike were, couldn’t get some of the parts and they would be cancelling the order. I spent nearly four months speaking to the shop manager (he’s now left) and Evans customer service team trying to get updates on my bike order. The majority of the staff I spoke to were unhelpful, unprofessional and incompetent. Evans were kind enough to give me a £150 gift voucher for all my troubles which I do think was a nice gesture, but advised me it could take up to a month to refund me the money I’d paid for the bike. Evans are fine for buying anything standard, if you want anything custom a strongly recommend getting a delivery date in writing before ordering. Buying a new bike should be an exciting experience, this purchase was extremely stressful and a horrible experience. I will do my very best to avoid using Evans in the future and I am trying to get my company to change the Ride to work scheme provider from Evans.
