“Save Your Money”

Written on: 04/04/2012 by billyblower (1 review written)

This was a complete waste of time and money. A single pretentious exhibition that wasn't even pretentious. it is hard to find anything positive to say about this visit. do not bother. there are some great galleries and craft shops in town, visit these instead… Read Full Review

Biggest waste of time (and money) ever; the window looking out to sea is the ONLY good thing about it. Far more interesting paintings better presented can be seen for free in St. Ives' smaller galleries; or any larger museum in a city. Claustrophobic and a wasted opportunity… Read Full Review

If, like I was, you are really looking forward to your first visit to The Tate, St Ives, please don't get your hopes up! I was hoping to see modern art by local artists and although there wasn't any, I arrived with an open mind. Instead, the "No Big Deal Thing" exhibition was exactly that for me, as was the rest of the gallery's collection. There was a really pretentious feel to the place and it was not "family friendly" as promoted. As in a previous review, my four year who was on her best… Read Full Review

What a waste of a nice location, the artwork at the tate gallery st ives was awful and really pretentious... I wish I had kept the leaflet I picked up when I went in because some of the phrasing was cringeworthy.

Agreed with others comments on the staff too, impolite and snobbish... even the cashier.

Worst £5 we spent on out visit, save your cash and visit the galleries in town... free and better quality… Read Full Review

I visited this museum on a Sunday,in summer, considering the hype, there were no queues, which I found suspicious, The building seems sadly out of place in a Cornish seaside town. I entered, expecting to find modern art by local artists, instead there was a series of childish drawings, a room with a perspex box and two 8mm cine projectors, a room with some blue (coloured) sayings painted on the walls and ceilings, some pale abstact art that would be quite pleasing in my dentists waiting room… Read Full Review

I took my children to the Tate St Ives yesterday, they are both art students and their college recommended a visit. The building is interesting and views spectacular. We were disappointed with the lack of information about the art being displayed, the paintings had no title or artist, upon leaving we found a few tatty bits of paper with a floor plan. The Staff there were horrible, unfriendly, it seems visitors to the Tate St Ives are an utter inconvenience, one member of staff actually shouted… Read Full Review

Visited the Tate in St. Ives in October 2007 with a group of fellow artists. The gallery itself was an interesting space, with an unconventional exterior. The exhibition on display was not very interesting to me, it was about geometric shapes which were ok to look at. The visiting display was much more interesting, the installations were amusing and quite interactive. I did enjoy the Tate overall and would definitely visit again when I am in the area. Not all the displays were to my liking… Read Full Review
