Good Points: Accommodation was nice, though it is supposedly only a 2* hotel, the rooms on the second floor have recently been renovated and were very nice - easily 3* quality. The hotel is very close to the train station where skibuses run to all parts of the valley as well as the train which can also take you to other resorts. This hotel offered breakfast only which was filling but simple.
Dining in Mayerhofen was reasonably priced though it was difficult to get food after 10 pm. Shops also close relatively early and there are very limited possibilities to pick up a late snack or wine bottle.
The town was quaint and interesting. There is a nice water sports centre.
Skiing was very good though not all regions were suited to our beginning level of skill. The Ahorn is of course the most suitable for beginners. Penkenbaum was a bit of a challenge as the blue pistes quite often were more like narrow trails. We enjoyed the day we went up the mountain using the Horbergbahn. There the highest peaks are easily accessible with panoramas of the entire valley. Overall the lifts are very modern - many 5, 6 and larger chairs. And of course the stunning 160 and 150 person gondolas!

Bad Points: Unfortunately Austria still hasn't seen the light and allows smoking in public places!!!

General comments: The resort is more suited for Intermediate skiers
