i-mate Ultimate 9502

Summary
The Ultimate series was conceived by i-mate to be the most feature-packed handhelds in its class. It started out with five products in the lineup but that dwindled down to just two, the 8150 and 6150.

i-mate Ultimate 9502
7 Apr 2008

Summary
The i-mate Ultimate 9502 is the larger sibling of the i-mate 8502, and shares the honour of being Australia's first HSUPA phone. While we believe this phone is in the same league as a Blackberry or the iPhone, be wary of Telstra's promised Internet ...

Pros
A myriad of features, Big 640x480 display, Touch screen, HSPA, Long battery life

Cons
Exclusive to Telstra, Windows Mobile 6 can be slow, HSPA speeds less than Telstra promised

Verdict
The i-mate Ultimate 9502 is one of the best smartphones we have come across -- and if you're happy with Telstra -- the i-mate 9502 makes an excellent alternative to a Blackberry or iPhone.

Summary
The Ultimate 9502's video-out feature may attract those who need to project handheld content onto a larger screen. However, it's not overly pocket-friendly and battery life leaves a little to be desired.

Pros
Quad-band GSM, GPRS/EDGE, HSDPA/HSUPA support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, Video-out capability, Slide-out QWERTY keyboard

Cons
Relatively large and heavy, Keyboard is small, Average battery life

Verdict
The Ultimate 9502's video-out feature may attract those who need to project handheld content onto a larger screen. However, it's not overly pocket-friendly and battery life leaves a little to be desired...

i-mate Ultimate 9502 Challenges the Sidekick Slide
23 Oct 2007

Summary
The recently announced Ultimate 9502 from i-mate has a physical design that is very similar to the Sidekick Slide, complete with the horizontally-sliding display and QWERTY keyboard...

Verdict
The Motorola Zante, which we have come to know as the Sidekick Slide from T-Mobile, is quite the beautiful device. It's got a QWERTY keyboard hidden beneath a large color display, but as luck would have it, the Sidekick Slide isn't the only phone to ...

16 May 2008

Summary
"Ultimate" implies something to be the best. The i-mate Ultimate series has changed forms several times since we first heard about it in 2007, but one thing remained constant: the 9502, a device due to be i-mate's top of the line. Today we present to ...

Pros
Excellent performance ; VGA screen ; Sidekick-like form factor ; GPS/WiFi/HSDPA ; TV-out ; Solid build quality ; Outstanding speakerphone ; Scroll wheel ; Decent battery life ; Above-average photo quality with mechanical autofocus

Cons
Expensive, Big, bulky, and heavy, Small keyboard, GPS initiation requires extra step

Verdict
I think that Adam Lein said it best in his review of the TyTN II: The TyTN II truly is the ultimate mobile companion... at least for now. That was written in September of 2007, and no longer is the TyTN II the best. The 9502 is faster, (a bit) ...

First Look: i-mate Ultimate 9502, better Foxtel...
14 Jul 2008

Summary
The Ultimate 9502 is a heavy, chunkier unit that boasts some useful improvements over its predecessor, including classier Foxtel Mobile viewing thanks to better resolution.

Verdict
The buttons on the 9502 feel a little more functional than the 8502, including a handy explorer button (for instant browsing) and a multi-directional scroll pad, which is good for navigating web pages

i-mate Ultimate 9502
27 Mar 2008

Pros
Excellent VGA display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, HSUPA and HSDPA capable, Secure and Custom i-Q portals

Cons
Chunky and heavy build, slider doesn't feel stable when opened, slow start-up time, no navigational software included

Verdict
The Ultimate 9502 is one of the first HSUPA-capable phones to hit the market in Australia. Although it's feature packed and the Custom and Secure i-Q portals are a nice touch, you'll need to consider whether its bulky form factor is right for you.

i-mate Ultimate 9502

Summary
Though it comes with a ton of features including a sharp VGA display, the implementation of its software needs refinement for it to live up to its "Ultimate" title.

Pros
Full suite of connectivity features ; VGA display ; separate mini-USB and audio jack ; TV-out for presentations

Cons
Large and heavy ; lacks user-available RAM ; security software needs improvement ; no bundled GPS software or maps ; can be unresponsive at times

Verdict
The VGA display slides out to reveal a QWERTY keypad (click for larger image)

I-mate - Ultimate 9502
17 Jul 2008

Summary
If you are a fan of the Sidekick format of devices, as sold by T-Mobile in the UK, but want something a bit less teenage and a bit more along the lines of a sophisticated smartphone, ...

Verdict
The Ultimate 9502 is packed with capabilities, but its unusually large and heavy format might reduce its appeal. If i-mate could cram the features into a smaller package it might have a more winning device on its hands.

Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox 420
6 Jun 2006

I bought the Fujitsu Siemens PocketLOOX 420 from a reseller on eBay, December 2004, advertised as new in box for £260 which was a major saving at the time (over £100). I was pleased to find that everything was as it should be and found it very easy to set up and start to use. (It was effectively ex-Factory as I found out when I registered it online all in original plastic wrapping etc)

The unit I bought came with the updated Windows 2003 software, unlike a lot of PDA's at...

I'm a plumber and use this phone to manage my accounts (by the way you can't sync Microsoft money for pocket pc on Windows Mobile 5.0 with any version of Money for your desktop! Use a package called SBP Finance for your pocket pc and it'll sync with any version of Money 2003 onwards for your desktop PC - it'll save you a lot of messing around!) I've got a package on here for diagnosing boiler faults - just plug it in! I manage my contacts and appointments and job on here through Outlook. This...

Handspring Treo 270
23 Nov 2004

Even though the Handspring Treo 270 phone is quite big it is powered by a palm this means that it has loads of great features, the best one is sync with outlook. There are not many shops that stock it or the new one so I might have to change network.

Toshiba e570
10 Apr 2002

I bought my Toshiba e570 Pocket PC for £428, not a bad price when you consider the ability of the unit. I had a shop around for some months to find the PDA that would suit all my needs, the Toshiba e570 certainly covers these and more. I find that the screen is of a great resolution, ease of use is excellent, even my 10 year old daughter has mastered how to use it, so I can't leave it around. I have experimented uploading several programs with no problems, they all worked, this may be...
