“No settlement after 6 months of claim!”

Written on: 14/11/2014 by jeffconnell (5 reviews written)

Still not received settlement of my claim from May. Contacted them this week to chase up. It took them a week to get back to me to say they had closed the claim as they could not contact me? Very strange, they had already emailed and telephoned me, so this is just a get out excuse to avoid paying. Very unprofessional at what is a most distressing time. Needless to say, I have not renewed with Sheila's Wheels. Watch this space - but don't hold your breath! … Read Full Review

“ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL - THEY MAKE CLAIMING VERY STRESSFUL”

Written on: 18/08/2014

Not worthy of one Star. Claimed in May 2014 for a damaged bath. They have still not paid out. We have sent photos and quotes. We had to have the work done because the claim would have gone from 700 to thousands of pounds, as we were getting water damage to plaster boards and floor boards, and ceiling was in danger of falling in. We have advised them that we have had work done, and sent them receipts. They have now decided to instruct a third party claims assessor to 'assess' our claim… Read Full Review

“Sheila's Wheels Home Insurance”

Written on: 26/02/2014 by NiaOgden222 (1 review written)

Customer Service is very poor. I had to wait nearly an hour in total for over 10 minutes several times during the day to finally get through to an insurance rep. They also subtly change some terms year to year and what was covered one year, like roof in home emergency cover suddenly disappeared in 2013/4. And when you have claims they find ways to avoid helping the customer - who has lost out. So despite having 10 years+ protected no claims with Accidental Damage cover for buildings and… Read Full Review

“Straightfoward good value”

Written on: 14/12/2013 by Longacres (1 review written)

The reviews here look disappointing, however, we should take companies as we find them and fortunately for me, my experience with Sheilas Wheels was very positive. If I had read the reviews before, I might never have tried Sheilas Wheels for home insurance - I'm glad I did. Price-wise they were in the lowest three quotes and, as I have used SW for motor insurance in the past, I thought I'd give them a try this year. During the October storms my greenhouse was damaged beyond repair and my shed… Read Full Review

“home insurance claim.”

Written on: 20/03/2013 by barnpot49 (1 review written)

After working outside i went to go in my house at 6pm to make tea etc.I cold not open the door(it had unlocked)but the handle was not operating the door catch. After trying to gain entry i could find no way in.I then decided the only way was to force the bottom panel of the pvc door, which i managed to do without to much damage.I phoned sheilas wheels the following day to see if i could claim.I was told by the person on the phone that it was a deliberate act so i could not claim.I tried… Read Full Review

“A close escape...I cancelled the policy before it started”

Written on: 03/03/2013 by SilverSurfer54 (3 reviews written)

I was referred to SW for Home Buildings and Contents Insurance by Compare the Market as after answering all the questions, they appeared cheapest. I contacted SW on line to clarify a couple of points and was asked a few more "standard questions by their agent, before agreeing to the policy and paying annual amount by credit card. When policy papers arrived I read through them as requested and noted a question ~ that I had not been asked - was on the schedule "are there any children under the age… Read Full Review

“'Home Emergency' ”

Written on: 03/03/2013 by Rippedorf (1 review written)

I had had a claim turned down for a gas leak from the back of a fire which is almost impossible to reach without knocking part of the wall down. They point blank refused to honour my 'Home Emergency'claim. I would never use Sheila's Wheels or Esure it's parent company again. Be careful with your payments though or you will find yourself paying for another year's renewal with this awful company… Read Full Review

“Poor Claims Service”

Written on: 15/01/2013 by Jekiel1980 (1 review written)

We recently made a claim through our home insurance through Sheila's Wheels. During strong winds in November our wall blew down causing quite a lot of damage. When we reported to Sheila's wheels they appeared to be very helpful and advised a Loss Adjuster would contact us to discuss. They did so and the damage was inspected a few days later. However despite the service we received at the offset we have been messed about by them since. We were asked to provide 2 estimates for damage, which… Read Full Review

“worst insurance ever”

Written on: 28/09/2012 by kazzer65 (1 review written)

I have recently made a claim with this insurance company for a water leak from my washing machine, the leak wasnt noticable because the water went under the floor tiles which resulted in my wooden flooring being damaged in the living room. I was told by the loss adjuster that because it was a leak that has happened over time i would not be able to claim but it doesnt end there. I cancelled my policy staright away but they are saying that because i made a claim in the first place that i still… Read Full Review

“Took away our cover while we were driving”

Written on: 08/06/2012

Having had our car written off by another driver, who admitted full liability, our policy was suspend. Having called customer services three times, to confirm that we could use the rest of our policy, we received a call, while driving to get an emergency prescription on Sunday for my nine year old daughters throat infection, saying we could pay a £1000 or our cover would be removed immediately, the cover was then removed… Read Full Review

“Disgraceful - NEVER use these swindlers”

Written on: 03/05/2012 by gareth303 (1 review written)

I'd been a customer of there's for a while taking their home emergency cover as well as home insurance. Recently we had a problem with our electrics so I rang them to get an electrician out (we have a 3 month baby). It turns out they've completely removed any problems with electrics from their home emergency cover! I mean no electricity and a tiny baby, what could be more of an emergency? They said it was all detailed in the mountains of 'policy documents' they sent to me when I renewed… Read Full Review

Rippedorf's Response to gareth303's Review

Written on: 03/03/2013

I have a big problem too with Sheila's Wheel's concerning a gas leak from a fire, they would not entertain me, even though we had 'Home Emergency' cover on top of buildings and home cover I would never use them or their mother company Esure again. Is there a decent insurance company out there....probably not! Oh and be careful or you might find yourself paying for another year if you don't cancel.

I found the co-operative home insurance to be excellent. A bit more expensive, but their home emergency cover actually covers emergencies and the call centre people are great.

Jimmypunter's Response to gareth303's Review

Written on: 03/08/2013

I didn't even know they were still trading! You never see their TV ads now. I wonder if they are part of a banking concern. You'd have thought "home emergency" included gas, water, lock outs, floods, damage, burglary, in fact anything and DEFINITELY INCLUDING ELECTRICITY! I took out a house and contents with an online company in November 2012. It was a good deal. Two weeks later they phoned to say they had checked my claims history and I hadn't told them about a minor claim in 2008 on a previous policy. I had simply forgotten and they cancelled the policy on the spot. I asked what would have happened if my house had blown up in the past week or so and they said they would not have covered me! I got a refund minus an "admin fee" of £30 which I complained about to the Ombudsman but got nowhere. BEWARE OF INSURANCE COMPANIES AND EMERGENCY COVER FIRMS!

We too hold SW Emergency cover along with Buildings and contents insurance. Recently we had water seeping into our hallway from a leaking pipe to a sink in a vanity unit. The emergency cover company (DAS) asked loads of questions about when the sink was installed and if a CORGI registered plumbing firm had done the work. They did not seem concerned in the least that the water was causing damage to a laminate floor in the hall. They refused to send out a plumber to sort the problem when I told them that a plumbing company did not install the sink. Got the repair done with HOMESERVE. Needless to say I wont be renewing with SW.

“Cheap home insurance, claim settled in 5 days”

Written on: 20/04/2012 by Screenwipe (3 reviews written)

My home insurance is with Sheila's Wheels. Nice and cheap. When I went to make a claim I found that Sheila's Wheels was "created" by esure, so the claim was handled by them. On 12th April I reported that my son had taken my mobile phone swimming LITERALLY! At this stage I wasn't going to make a claim, we were hoping to dry it out. On 16th April I phoned them back to say that the phone was dead. I had shopped around for a replacement phone. Carphone Warehouse had it for £499 but I found my… Read Full Review

“Never take car insurance with them !”

Written on: 16/04/2012

I insured my car and sent through proof of no claims bonus as requested. Today I noticed that my premium had been returned to my bank less £55.00. I telephoned to find out why. The answer was the type of proof was not correct. I had sent the renewal documents from my previous insurer, this has always been adequate before. They said on the telephone a letter had been sent but I had never received a letter telling me they required another proof of no claims bonus and today I find I was driving… Read Full Review

“I didn't want to renew with Sheila's Wheels.”

Written on: 08/04/2012

I've had buildings and contence insurance with Sheila's Wheels. Never made a claim, so therefore can't comment on this. My problem has always been trying to tell them I do not want to renew the insurance with them. With the buildings insurance I sort of take the blame for half the trouble because I just cancelled the direct debit and took out another insurance with another company. So when it came to renewing the contence insurance (which I'd had for two years with them) I cancelled the direct… Read Full Review

“When does a claim become an emergency?”

Written on: 06/04/2012

When old kitchen was being removed kitchen fitters discovered the hot water pipe(hidden behind a cupboard) was leaking. The wall was soaking so they lifted up tiles beneath to discover the chipboard flooring was soaking wet. and part of it collapsed into the foundations. My daughter phoned Sheila's wheels and they said they would send a claim form!!! After a week 2 Assessors came and said it was covered but the quotes she had received were much higher than they envisaged. All she wants is the… Read Full Review

“If all insurers were like this, no one would bother...”

Written on: 24/03/2012

Have got home cover for high risk items out of the house. If a laptop is used "in part or at all for work" its not covered. They claimed stuff stolen from her work was not "looked after or secured responsibly". This is even after police agreed it was a burglary, and the thieves timed their theft to when downstairs door was left open during a delivery being brought down from upstairs. Goal posts moved as usual, as we had provided receipts and proof for everything stolen, and once we sent all… Read Full Review

“Cheap cover but nightmare to claim when you need it most”

Written on: 13/02/2012 by DenissPurdon (3 reviews written)

I found their cover to be very cheap however it was a major nightmare to claim when we experienced our fire in the flat. The assessor was very quick to come check the house out and make a note of what happened. We were told that the next day someone would come value our goods before they get taken away for cleaning, restoration and or replacement. The firm who came to assess our goods smelt of booze so badly that I almost got drunk off the fumes. He did not even look in the cupboards so I have… Read Full Review

“Very disappointed”

Written on: 31/10/2011 by mike047 (1 review written)

I locked myself out last week so called Sheila's wheels about my situation. They told me that if I claimed under my insurance all costs for a locksmith etc. would be due a £100 excess. Fair enough because that's what it says on my policy. What they did NOT tell me was that as I had home emergency cover then the excess fees would not have applied. I did not realise at the time and by the time I did it was too late because I had already paid for my own locksmith to gain entry and fit a new… Read Full Review
