    I upgraded from a Canon 20D to the 40D and my photographic interests are completely across the board from weddings to landscapes and night time photography.
    I have taken almost 10,000 shots since I have owned the camera and in the main I am pretty pleased with the results but as in all cases, you need a good lens (L series) and technique to really get the best out of it.
    Liveview is very useful but limited in detail once you zoom in to a subject to check focus - low pixel count on screen.
    My only real criticism is the images are still quite noisy above ISO400 and need a bit of software to correct but then you lose a little sharpness. Good points are 10.1 megapixels good for a3+, live view, easy learning curve and a good battery life.
    Since this camera came out the prices have dropped considerably and for around £500 or less this camera is an absolute bargain !
    Highly recommended !

    Overall the Canon EOS 40D is a very good camera for the price tag ( £529 after rebate). Picture quality is better than 400D series... 6.5 fps is fast enough to start with. 3" LCD screen and Live view feature at an affordable price. My score is 95/100
