Despite its age, it's still a great little phone, missing GSM 850 band which wasn't available from any manufacturer at the time. Bought this used in Manila, Philippines unlocked and have used it traveling around different places. Asia is particularly inexpensive obtaining and using a prepaid SIM; Canada, Europe tends to be much more expensive using a prepaid plan. I basically wanted a good quality basic phone, long lasting battery life for talking and standby. The battery tends to be... (read more)

Owned the Sony Ericsson T68i for about 2-3 years, and was very impressed by the battery life. It can last a week without recharge with minimal usage.
However, the reception on it is abysmal. I thought it was my service provider, but my friend has a T610 and he has similar reception problems, I assume it must be a problem with Sony phones. I could only get vaguely good reception in the open air, at work and at home I could barely get anything. The bluetooth is dodgy.
Because the reception...

If you are interested in a T68i phone... RUN AWAY SCREAMING NOW.... It is the most infuriatingly slow phone I have ever had the misfortune to use. I actually grew a beard whilst waiting for it to boot up so I could make a call.
The screen is not all that either. I had the handset replaced twice due to failure and when it failed a third time I was due an upgrade and jumped at the chance.
The reception was poor too. I could use another brand phone on the same network that had a near perfect...

The Sony Ericsson T68i is a nice and compact mobile phone and over the past year I've found it to be very reliable. Ocasionally it will switch itself off but very rarely. Viewing the screen in bright light is difficult (for my old eyes anyway). I have only had limited success using it for Internet access as a modem via the IR port on my laptop. This was one of the main reasons I went for it. (read more)

i was pleased with my Sony Ericsson T68i when i first got it, but as time went on i realised that the signal reception was absolutely abysmal. The inability to send text messeges for c. 90% of the time rather annoyed me (what do you expect, im 15, textings all i ever do! lol).
The idea of all the features such as bluetooth etc. are good, but they seem too much for the phone to handle.

General usage: Rubbish. I dread everytime I have to reply to a text message - my thumb isn't *that* big, and I keep hitting the wrong button.
Over time (I've had this Sony Ericsson T68i mobile phone just over a full year) - the buttons and joystick becomes unreliable, the On/Off (or No) button is now almost unworkable, other navigation buttons are going the same way.
Menu system is okay - quite pleasing to the eye, but avoid this if you like texting (as I do) because it's about 4-5 button...

I quite like the shape and compactness of this Sony Ericsson T68i mobile phone. I think it looks smarter than some of the new phones that may have superior features. This phone is not probably for people who constantly use the text facility. I am not happy with the following:

Joystick developed a crack after a couple of months and came off about the 11th month.
Charger gave up and caused inconvenience trying to get a replacement

The volume switch is a multiswitch on the side. It has become non-functional.
The entire time I've had the phone it has taken several attempts for it to turn on. In at least one instance it has refused to turn itself off.

This Sony Ericsson T68i is far and away the worst mobile phone I've ever had the misfortune to own. If you wanted something which typified how Ericsson lost their way, this is it.
It was never designed - rather it is a set of features stuck together. The user then has to translate from what they want to do, to what features of the phone enable them to...

You are so right - the T68i is a mangy dog. I'm on my 3rd one also, but I did drop my 1st on into a cup of coffee! Some days even in places where reception is normally fine it can't do anything - can't send or receive texts, can't access voicemail, can't make or receive any type of call.

Sometimes the signal bar fluctuates wildy for hours or it suddenly drops of the network requiring yet another re-boot. Do you get the 'No access' message, that happens when the phone comes over all autistic and can't communicate with anything. Texting has now become a farce with maybe 20% of txts being successful. Its a beautiful phone which can do all sorts of clever stuff - except work properly.

The t68i is the best phone I have owned to date, by a long way. My reason for buying it was so that I could sync the phone book with my Mac using iSync. In that respect it has been absolutely fantastic.

Nothing's perfect, and I do find it extremely annoying to find that it regularly turns itself off in my pocket WITH THE KEYLOCK ON. A keylock really should, well, lock the keys.
Written on: 19/09/2003
ABSOLUTELY!!! ive had a t68i for about 6 months now and the keylock thing is by far the most irritating thing about it. Regularly the phone turns itself off or even phones the first number on your call list! Even when keylock is ON. Not only that, but if you have the lock on, you put it in your pocket and someone calls you, a simple accidental press of the yes button answers the call, despite keylock supposedly LOCKING THE KEYS?!?! Bit of a misnoma there. It's got so bad that i have even taken to leaving my phone at home to avoid the hassle (completely defeating the point of a mobile)and needless to say, ive had to apologise to the first person on my phone for the random calls, and my girlfriend thinks i answer the phone and ignore her! Pity really, because otherwise it's a useful and stylish phone (the camera is poor though, and i have had a few problems with the software crashing on the games and during sms)

I'm disappointed with the phone as i've always had nokias before and they have been great (had a mobile for 8 years now). A big design fault i've found is that if you drop the phone and the battery falls out, the retention clips fell out and broke - they were made from very fragile plastic. So now my battery falls out all the time. The clip should have been part of the battery. Anyway, i've decided to change to a Nokia 6100 (see reviews!)

i had the t68m software upgrade to the t68i, there has been a lot of new things in the phone, its faster t9 is a little better, loads off new pictures, works better with the camera, it was worth having the t68m software to t68i without selling my phone and having to buy the next one up thanks sony, the gprs is better than wap and cheaper, but there could have sorted the bluetooth out, mined you the ir port is good for doing ringtones, the camera is the must have, i love it (read more)

What's wrong with the BlueTooth? You can leave it on 24/7 if you want, though it will use more battery. The 3 minute thing is only that it can stay discoverable for 3 mins at a time & that is for security purposes.

Sounds like a good review to me, but anyone know where I can get the software upgrade for my phone?

I found the picture quality of the Camera great. As big (640 x 480) as any other on the market and of a High Quality even though heavily compressed. The picture quality is better than the Panasonic GD88 and better than the Nokia 7650 when you email it out. Not so good on the 256 colour screen but a better quality jpeg is produced. As for the cable, waste of time as the phone has both BlueTooth & InfraRed so no need to buy a cable to connect to the PC. Just use the wireless methods.

OK, well I've given it all in the Good points and Bad points sections.
It looks nice and is light and the screen is big if you're coming off an old non-colour phone.
The calendar capability is wicked - Good PDA replacement if all you do is make lots of little appointments and reminders!!!
Pitty you can't use java games - big-time ommision by Ericsson! And no polyphonic ringtones - but they naff you off anyhow :o))
The buttons have a bit of a weak clicky feel, but the menu delay is worse -...
