The Peel P50 must qualify as the oddest car since the Robin Reliant. Basically it's a car a bit like the familiar Early Learning Centre plastic kiddie car, but with a 49cc scooter engine and a floor! Despite that, the Peel P50 still has obvious advantages over many other cars. First, it's super economical, with only the new Toyota Prius able to rival the 100 mpg fuel consumption that the Peel P50 offers. Second, with both it's compact size and low emissions, it won't get pinged by the London Congestion Charge. Third, it is definitely easy to park, as it takes up half the space of most city cars.
But, as with all silver linings, there's got to be a cloud surrounding it. With the Peel P50, you'll make the Robin Reliant look like a Ferrari F430 in terms of beauty and performance. With just one gear (forwards) and a maximum speed below 40mph, you'll not be getting any prizes for coming first in a race. Plus, should you be involved in a crash, driver and vehicle will become one in a painful meld. And this is not the car to drive if you value street cred...
Either way, I think the economy and comedy factor on these microcars are the biggest plus point. If anything, you'll be the most distinctive car in the traffic jam...
