I bought a Swan microwave some years ago, and just like the other reviews are saying mine developed the same fault. The door release catch mechanism broke on the pivot. They cannot be replaced unless the microwave is under warranty as Swan only supply to home shopping groups. So I decided to have a go at mending it myself. I had to drill a small hole in the mechanism where the pivot had broken off, then managed to attach a nut and bolt to replace the pivot. The microwave is still going strong and I think the pivot will outlive the rest of the microwave now. It seems like this is a common weakness in the design and Swan should have done something about this.

I have just read a few reviews to see if similar problem to mine has occurred.. and yes it has. I have not had my microwave that long ( although I can't remember - passed warranty). The door has stopped working.. I heard the spring go ping! Luckily only 'defrosting bread' stuck inside... unfortunately the microwave is now rendered useless. Why hasn't Swan dealt with this .. as it seems like it is a basic flaw? Such a pain & silly expense. I wish I had read these reviews before purchase.. I think I must have read the ones from lucky owners!

As above, the door began to get stiff and reluctant to open smoothly, christmas day it went altogether and as above the door refused to open. My food was inside aaarrrrr...!!! I unplugged at mains opened up the case to find that the big black plastic thingy.?? had snapped this is what opens the door. I was very annoyed that a very good microwave had now lost its use because of a badly designed door opener fixture. no serial number to try to buy anew one. so my microwave is dead.! shame because it never gave any problems I thought it was easy to clean and maintained a lovely shine of stainless steer through out. pity

I'm on my second one of these, the first was replaced under warranty after three months when it stopped working. Now the replacement has stopped working and although it is still within the warranty period i will probably cut my losses and scrap it. I bought this model as it was a Which magazine best buy.How wrong can they be?

I liked the fact my Swan SM2050 was stainless steel inside and out. I have had the Microwave for 8 months and it has broken down. Don't know why as there appears to be no troubleshooting section in the manual. Also where I press the buttons it has become very wrinkled already.

After only a year of owning this Swan SM2050 microwave it broke down. The door started to stiffen, getting harder to open. Then I put my newborn daughter's bottles in to be sterilised an the door would not open.

my swan microwave oven door jammed and like kids are, my son tried to pull it open, the thing exploded terrifing him and causing him to be deafened for 24 hours. i phoned swan tell them what had happened they did not want to know! SO DON'T BUY SWAN MICROWAVES YOU'LL GET NO HELP FROM THEM
