    i think start rite shoes are fantastic, i have checked and they are made in portugal now. they last and are extremely hard wearing. if you regularly polish the shoes they will last a long time. i think they are far better than clarks.

    My son always wore startrite shoes. They used to be made in the UK. You used to be able to get them from Start-rite Factory shops. Now though - they are made in Vietnam and other Asian countries - and the factory shops are no longer.The leather used a few years ago used to resist even the most arduous use - but now, it seems paper thin. A recent pair that I bought for my youngest son - lasted 4 weeks at school.

    My son's shoes have always looked virtually new even after he's worn them for six months. Therefore, I know that he is very "light on his feet". These Start-rite School Shoes were a huge disappointment.
    From now on I will only buy Geox (similar price) and in a class of their own.
