Good Points: Solid mercedes build quality and superb mechanics. Elegant looking. What a pose for under a grand.

Bad Points: Rust on wings and body. Expensive running costs. Poor mpg. Windows regulators have a tendency of slowing down and eventually packing in.

General comments: The Mercedes 300CE is a beautiful car with the elegance and grace of the bygone Mercedes era. Fast becoming a classic with collectors looking for good quality cars which have had good lives and have been respected. But at the end of day you are buying a Mercedes not a Ford Escort so expect big running costs. The petrol mpg is poor as the old straight 6 merc engine is thirsty but thats the price you pay for the perfect elegance and comfort ride of these mercedes. Look out for rust as they do badly. My 1992 has gone through 2 sets of wings in last 8 years. mechanically this model is solid. Engines are good and reliable and electronics are v good expect the front windows. The regulators get tired and fail easily but then look at the size of the front windows. The pillarless coupe looks classically modern and this model demands respect and stares with its presence on the open road. All this for normally under a grand. WOW. Look out for good history cars with good body work. Avoid black and white. For some reason they are always the ones with the hard lives. Unless maybe the good ones stay with there owners. Make sure everything works or else get ready to part with your savings. Parts are expensive.
