The Volkswagen Golk m2 is fast becoming a classic. Ive owned 1 mk, 2 mk drivers(inc this 1) 2 mk2 gti's and a Vento.
Bought as a runabout for £250 after driving a top of the range Audi a6 and it took some getting used to but once I had it was great. None of the abs, power steering etc but great fun to drive. Its 1 of those cars where you feel the speed, 40 feels like 80 and you really feel like your foot is mm from the engine. Now it is obviously not as quick as the gti but you will be hard… Read Full Review

The Second MarkII VW Golf I've owned (the first being a 1.3) and I love it - bought it "without a starter motor" and then found that the lady had just flicked the immobiliser switch that some previous owner had put in.
I dunno what you mean about no grunt, drop from 5th to 3rd and FLOOR IT, watch that increase. Quite right about the driving position; I'm 6 foot 5 inches tall and I sit comfortably for up to 4-5 hours at a time. Fuel consumption is great... £15 from London to Nottingham (with… Read Full Review

I own a 1989 golf mk2 1.6 driver, it has been recently fitted with a weber 32/34 carb, GTi front suspension and GTi interior. Even though the interior was badly put on and is now decaying, the car is in great shape. The 1.6 has enough grunt for everyday stuff and enough for some fun, but it could do with more, maybe 100bhp rather than 75bhp. Boot space is great, rear leg room is good, and driving position is perfect. The engine is noisy due to its age, but its nothing disapointing. I recommend… Read Full Review
