Good Points: Reliability, Quality, Driving position, good boot space, great retro looks
Bad Points: Lacks abit of grunt, Getting old, noisy engines
General comments: I own a 1989 golf mk2 1.6 driver, it has been recently fitted with a weber 32/34 carb, GTi front suspension and GTi interior. Even though the interior was badly put on and is now decaying, the car is in great shape. The 1.6 has enough grunt for everyday stuff and enough for some fun, but it could do with more, maybe 100bhp rather than 75bhp. Boot space is great, rear leg room is good, and driving position is perfect. The engine is noisy due to its age, but its nothing disapointing. I recommend this car for first time driver as it has no driver aids, so you control the car, not the car controls you. No PAS, ABS, ESP, TC...nothing.
Great fun, average economy, awsome looks, reliable.
