Sometimes you just want to carry your baby around but you also want comfort and style and colours that look good no matter what you're wearing. Bring forth the Patapum Baby Carrier!
Since my baby arrived in this world (15 months ago to date!) I have tried and tested four baby carriers - a Premaxx sling, a Baby Bjorn, a ring sling and now a Patapum. The Premaxx was great for when our baby was a tiny new-born - we carried her everywhere in it and she would sleep soundly for hours! The Baby Bjorn was very good for a few months (although not so wonderful for my husband once my baby started kicking her legs when she got excited!) However, after a good traipse around, I would need to rest and get my breath back. I wanted to find a carrier that enabled me to enjoy being close to my baby whilst giving her some independence and one that didn't put strain on my body.
The shining star of all the carriers has to be the latest one I have tried - the Patapum. It's easy to use, lightweight and when my baby is in, it barely feels like there is any weight in there at all as it all falls comfortably on the hips. The support is in all the right places and it's also (with a bit of practice) easy to get on and off with no need for help from another person.
My first outing with the Patapum was a shopping trip in a local town. My baby was able to see everything that was going on around us and could see me engaging in conversations, choosing items to purchase and see buildings, trees and all the scenery. After an hour, I still felt like I could easily carry on walking with her - it just felt so natural for her to be there and my shoulders showed no signs of aching!
The next trip out was a power shop! I wore my baby for three hours this time (with a couple of breaks for a drink and lunch). No part of my body felt uncomfortable for the whole time and afterwards, when we all piled into the car, I just felt like I'd had a good work-out. My baby had slept soundly in the carrier too which was such a lovely experience.
Another note-worthy experience is when I walked up my street the other day after visiting family. My baby was ready for her nap and I wanted to give her a quick breast-feed - so I did! Feeding whilst walking with the Patapum? Easy and discreet.
What I have noticed about carrying my own baby in the Patapum.
.My baby is peaceful yet very alert at all times.
.She hasn't cried or complained - not even on the three-hour shop-a-thon! She seems truly happy and contented.
.She shows more of a interest in the objects and scenery around her. It makes talking to her much easier too - I can explain what we are doing and what we can see without having to bend down or speak over her head in the buggy.
.It's easy to breast-feed whilst carrying her.
.When she falls asleep, when facing towards me, she just leans her head on my chest.
.The Patapum comes complete with a detachable sleep hood which is a unique feature but I haven't needed to try that out yet as my baby has always slept towards me.
I have to say I would give the Patapum carrier full marks - 10/10. I love everything about it from the colour to the really soft material and how funky and stylish it looks too. It's suitable for babies from about 5 months old and you can use it up to their toddler years.
