Good Points: The sound is very crisp and clear. Really good power. I didn't even need to go to past half power to give my speakers a good work-out. The GUI to me was simple to understand and easy to follow. This unit has a great number of user adjustable controls to really personalize the sound the way you would like them. The unit also has 2 HDMI outputs.

Bad Points: The HDMI is "pass-through", meaning it does not transfer the sound with the picture over the same cable. I simply used a toslink cable for audio and it sounds great to me. My biggest dissappoint was the inability to connect my equalizer to the unit. Yes, the unit does have an internal equalizer and eq's are two channel and the unit has seven. My beef is that I like to see the lights on the spectrum analyzer jump around (I never used it to equalize the sound). The last two small problems are: you can not use the GUI if you connect your monitor w/ HDMI, also it is sometimes hard to tell exactly which surround sound mode you are in. The first was easy to solve; I just used an S-video cable and I just change the input on my TV when I want to tweak the output. The second is probably my fault. A great value though.

General comments: This is a good receiver for the price point. I bought this pioneer vsx receiver used from eBay. I do have knowledge on how to connect surround sound components so set-up was not difficult. This receiver is my attempt to upgrade from a Onkyo tx-sv343. My main speakers are Cerwin Vegas and Boston Acoustics. I have two powered subwoofers connected to the unit.
