T-Mobile Ameo (HTC Athena)
27 Jan 2007

Summary
T-Mobile say that the Ameo should be available from March 2007 at around €500 on a new Relax 100 call plan.

Review: Dopod U1000
5 Apr 2007

Summary
Feature-packed and powerful, the U1000 still isn't for everyone because of its sheer size and high price.

Pros
Fast 624MHz processor ; large 5-inch VGA display ; many wireless options ; GPS for navigation ; 8GB MicroDrive built-in ; VueFLO motion-sensing feature

Cons
Large and bulky ; very heavy ; no GPS application or maps bundled ; extremely expensive ; keyboard not backlit

T-Mobile Ameo Windows Mobile Device
18 Apr 2007

Summary
Could T-Mobile's Ameo be the ultimate Windows Mobile Device? Sandra isn't convinced.

Verdict
As I said at the outset, the Ameo is not an ideal everyday smartphone, it's simply too large for that. Nor can it replace a notebook computer, it's not sophisticated enough for that. Indeed, while I think it is clever and I do like it a lot, I am not ...

T-Mobile Ameo
17 Apr 2007

Summary
The Ameo is a well-specified and generally usable Windows Mobile 5.0 device with a large screen and an attachable keyboard. But despite all its built-in functionality, which includes HSDPA and GPS, we suspect that few mobile professionals are likely ...

Pros
Large 5in. screen, 8GB hard drive, Quad-band GSM with 3G and HSDPA support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS built in, VGA-out and USB host capability

Cons
Unresponsive keyboard, Unwieldy for voice calls without a handsfree kit, Not a viable substitute for a notebook PC

T-Mobile Ameo
30 Apr 2007

Summary
The T-Mobile Ameo walks a tricky tightrope between smart phone and ultra-mobile PC. Yet it somehow manages a neat balancing act, impressing with its vast screen and blistering HSPDA connection, despite its finger-torturing keyboard

Pros
Large, colourful screen ; decent battery life ; magnetic keyboard ; generous 8GB microdrive

Cons
Large and heavy ; nasty key action ; not really a phone ; disabled GPS

Verdict
The speed jump from 3G to HSDPA is amazing -- especially on a screen as huge and sharp as the Ameo's. This ungainly magnetic smart phone should attract anyone seeking the highest mobile Web speeds, although a terrible keyboard means it'll never ...

HTC Advantage X7501 - Windows Mobile PDA Phone ...
29 Jul 2007

Summary
Is it a PDA, a mini-computer or a phone? It's a bit of each. While the HTC Universal (commonly sold as the i-mate JasJar and other carrier-branded names) tried to be a phone, HTC has learned that most folks don't want to hold a handheld computer to ...

Pros
Attractive and innovative design, very good VGA display, fast processor, lots of RAM, flash ROM and microdrive space. Windows Mobile 6 is powerful and has enough to offer to make this a reasonable notebook substitute if you don't need specific Windows ...

Cons
Not cheap. No option to run everything in VGA for those who have excellent eyes. Shows and holds onto fingerprints mercilessly

Verdict
Repeat after me: this is not a phone. OK. Yes, it has a phone radio inside-- and a capable unlocked quad band GSM one with EDGE as well as a 3G HSDPA. But this is a handheld computer first of the "honey who shrunk the notebook" genre. For those who ...

HTC Athena Advantage - X7501 (Unlocked) review
14 Aug 2007

Summary
The HTC Advantage X7501 is a powerful mobile computer for on-the-go professionals, delivering a full feature set and speedy performance. However, it will probably only appeal to early adopters and gadget hounds.

Pros
The HTC Advantage X7501 features a large, gorgeous display and offers integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, and GPS. The Windows Mobile 6 mobile computer offers document viewing and editing, push e-mail, and Web browsing. It's also equipped with a 3 ...

Cons
The Advantage is bulky and heavy, and the keyboard is cramped. The design makes it hard to use as a phone, and even then, the speakerphone is on the weaker side.

Verdict
The HTC Advantage X7501 is pretty hefty, so it'll add some weight for your travels.

T-Mobile Ameo
30 Aug 2007

Summary
Following the launch of the UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) last year, we've seen a variety of portable products that attempt to offer better usability in a portable package. T-Mobile's Ameo (£80 inc. VAT) sits between the UMPC and Pocket PC, combining 3G ...

Pros
Great screen, Well featured, Decent performance, Impressive storage capacity

Cons
Keys need greater travel, Windows Mobile 5.0

Verdict
A comprehensively specified Pocket PC offering a large screen and great usability

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
3 Sep 2009

This is actually my 2nd review of this phone, but can't find a way to update the original....

..... I'm downgrading my review after a few months of use. It has now been back for repair twice, once for the common speaker issue and now for a cracked LCD screen. A Warning to all - NO DAMAGE TO LCD SCREENS IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. I think this is illegal so am fighting it, but at the end of the day I am very careful with my phones, there is not a scratch on it, but the screen...

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
20 Mar 2009

The nokia 5800 is actually a lot lighter in weight than I thought even though its features are so advanced... for example the multimedia functions are so good..
Nokia 5800 Tube Xpress Music is a high end phone, it is a little pricy but with decent features, would well recommend this mobile phone.

Nokia N95 8GB
15 Feb 2008

Has everything you need in a smartphone. With a data plan (I use 3's X-Series) you can sync your calendar, emails, notes and everything with your PC.

I'm pleased with this phone, apart from the odd niggle with the software which will no doubt be sorted with future firmware releases. Looks better than the original N95, quite retro, which suits me.

BlackBerry 8800
11 Jun 2007

The Blackberry 8800 is a very good handset, easy to set up and use. The unit is heavy compared to other units but the build quality is superb. The one letter per key is perfect and although it looks crowded on the keys it actually isn't.

Apple iPhone
30 May 2008

Bought the phone Apple iPhone aabout 5 months ago. Very easy to use. Probably the easiest phone to use out there. Sound volume could be better and the speed of the networking could be faster.
If you have the wifi turned on it's alot faster if you can pick up a signal that is floating around. The phone does alot of little things that I like. Takes very good photos. If it had a digi recorder in it, it would be the whole package!
