My first bass was a Fender Squier P Bass. For a cost around £200 it is of reasonable quality. This is the Bass I'd recommend for any young bassist looking for his/her first bass. It has a simple design, with different colours such as dark red, blue or black. It has one pickup which does limit the bass to a small tonal range. I bought a 5 string version of the bass above. The guitar looks great and sound nice. It is perfect for home recording or practising. Unfortunately it is not really suitable of player anywhere bigger than a pub as when put through a PA it the sound quality declines and you get crackling. (read more)

I have purchased a Squire-Fender Precision Bass and it is great in every way. Beautiful finished guitar in every way. Lightweight and well balanced and at a bargain price.
Sounds great.

The overall rating I would give the Fender Squier P-Bass is a 7.5. I can't quite say it is an 8 because there are a few things on the bass that bother me. One is the appearance. It's real basic. But hey, it's cheap and you really can't expect much from a cheap bass. (read more)
