Good Points: Air cooling for simplicity and pushrods for lower maintanence ie valves handling and brakes. Cheap and easy to own with good fuel economy.

Bad Points: Mirros look pig ugly so should be changed for smaller custom ones.

General comments: buell lightning long xb12ss, fine blend of good and useable mid range power make it ideal for all road riding conditions., and if you want to zip past that truck doing 40 mph just pull the frottle and woosh your off. Good agility and that unique front brake make it feel sure footed and confidence enspireing to ride. And of course its just good old fashioned fun wich is something we could all do with in todays world. if you know what i mean.

Had my Buell Lightning XB12S for 20 months and done 9,000 miles all for fun, including 2,000 mile camping trip to France and back in 10 days. Have recently tested Motto Guzzi 1200 Sport & Griso, BMW R1200R, Triumph Sprint, Ducati 1100 Monster. All these bikes feel heavy and cumbersome by comparison and lack the character of a Buell, except one. It was a close run thing with the new Monster but those high cans rule out panniers and it`s also poor for pillions. So i'm gonna get another Lightnin ...

If all your buddies ride sport bikes they will always out accelerate you cept for off the line and in corners. But a 600 will eat you on the highway. If you like having your head snapped back in your car from hard acceleration then you will love this ride! As a first ride I think its a solid option as you won't find yourself on the highway doing some high speeds before you know it. And with all the low end torque you don't have to shift as much when riding in city.

I've had the Buell Lightning XB12SS for about 2 years now and have used it mainly for commuting and weekend grins. Overall, the Buell has proved very reliable but I am now looking at a number of minor warranty claims for things like belt tensioner barings and some crappy paintwork on the tail section. Now, chances are, if you dont ride it year round, you just wont encounter these issues. In which case, buy one. They are an utter hoot. Change the exhaust as soon as you can, because they sound and ...

If your not looking to go blinding speeds, this will be a good bike it is and does command respect on the curves. Thats were I love the bike. Dont pay than $9,000 for a new one cause it will take you ten years to get some money back for it. They do hold there value better that the sports bikes but they are for a select group of riders that dont really want to be in the harley group!

I've had just over 2 years experience with my Buell Lightning, and lemme tell ya, Buell has done a jam-up job. It's an incredibly fun bike, and the faster you go, the better it rides. Ultimately, that's its only shortcoming... the engine tends to be rather rough at lower speeds, which makes in-town commuting a chore (unless of course you always ride like a hooligan). I've heard the new '08 models have a new fuel injection system that smooths out those lower rpms, but haven't seen one to be sure.
