General comments: A COSY SETTING FOR A MAGICAL CHRISTMAS!!We have just returned from Lentssons Suomunhelmi in Kemijarvi, Lapland and couldn't wait to write a review! We had an absolutely fantastic holiday and a magical Christmas. This is the second Christmas we have spent in Lapland - we thought we couldn't beat last year but this place was great and far exceeded our expectations! It was so great that we are in negotiations with the owners to get our own cabin built there. The resort is a family run holiday park with 8 cabins and a beautiful cozy restaurant. The restaurant was a room with windows all around and large hand made log tables decorated in classy table tunners and candles. In the centre of the room there is a circular fire with little tree stumps surrounding it so guests could sit with a hot mug of Finnish coffee. The Christmas decorations were fantastic showing they had great taste in style. Everything was well thought out and the result was a really warm, cozy, very Christmassy room which we loved to sit in for a warm after a day sleighing or walking through the arctic wilderness. The staff were brilliant. They were so down to earth and couldn't do enough for us. The guests are their priority and they clearly want you to enjoy your stay. We feel like we've made some new friends and will definately be going there regularly - and hopefully in our own cabin if we can get the finances together to build it!!When booking our holiday our priority was to be based somewhere in the wilderness but within reach of a local town - not a busy commercial place with hustle and bustle - this was exactly what we were looking for. We spent our days going on long walks and making our own fires in the woods to cook some sausages on! Or we used the kiddies sleighs on the slope leading down the lake (which is on the Lentssons land). We spent an evening inside a wooden teepee sitting around a fire cooking sausages. There are also safaris running directly from the cabins but we didn't do these this year as we experienced them last year and wanted just a lazy holiday this year. There is also an outdoor hot tub which is heated with wood and this can be rented for the evening. We saw the Northern Lights from outside our cabin - this was an amazing experinence. On Christmas Eve they put on a lovely meal as this is when the Finns celebrate their Christmas. Then on Christmas morning we went to Breakfast and met Santa - yes the REAL Santa - he came in with prezzies for the 2 kiddies who were staying and for other guests. We had a lovely breakfast and it felt like one big happy family with the other familiesWe then offered to take some dogs for a walk - that was fun taking them for a run across the frozen lake!! We then went back to the restaurant in the evening for our 5 course Christmas Dinner - which was delicious!! Santa called again with some prezzies for everyone - including the adults - and then there was a lucky dip for everyone to get something small.I can't go on enough about how lovely this place is. You can do as much or as little as you like but I think it's a lovely setting for people who appreciate the natural beauty of the Arctic wilderness.
