    Good Points: Perfect with a games console (see below).
    Excellent with animated Blu-ray or HD-DVD.
    Good with HD Broadcasts and non-animated Blu-ray or HD-DVD.


    Bad Points: Average with normal (SD) DVD through component input.
    Poor with normal (SD) DVD through SCART or other video inputs.
    Poor with Free view and SD Cable.


    General comments: It's a thumbs down as a recommendation to a friend as several friends have seen this TV and said they would probably choose something else.

    The 1080p animated film demo in the store was stunning but wish I had insisted on a 1:1 feed from a dedicated aerial and seen Freeview. The store blamed a joint feed for poor quality but I have found that that SD TV (images from Freeview or cable) are very disappointing due to re-scaling from 520p to 1080p.

    The colours are very tricky to adjust, particularly on any color of face tone as well as greens.

    The dynamic contrast appears to work by altering the intensity of the back-light over the whole screen rather than over the particular area that needs enhancing. This results in a darkening or lightening the complete image which (for me at least) was not pleasing to watch. Fortunately this is an option that can be de-selected.

    I wish I had stuck with my pre-purchase analysis and gone for something slightly smaller and definitely Plasma.

    I upgraded from my Hitachi 42PMA400E thinking LCD mu st be better than a four year old plasma. Either Hitachi did a stunning job 4 years ago or there is too much hype on LCD on large screens.

    1366 x 768 is probably the best resolution for SD on a 50 screen because of the reduced level of up-scaling scaling from SD to this display resolution.

    I consider that there is simply not enough broadcast HD content to do justice to this 52 display.

    However, my son thinks it is "awesome" with a PS3 and boasts improved scores on all games due to increase precision with a "wicked" display.

    So, if most of your use is HD films and HD games then this is a stunning piece of kit.

    If you do most most viewing off free to air digital Freeview or SD cable or satellite, you may be disappointed.
