I bought my freeview recorder five months ago and have been experiencing similar problems. It freezes on a weekly basis, has not recorded some programmes and usually misses the last five minutes off all Channel 4 recordings. Last week I lost my TV guide rendering the recorder useless and after reading these reviews was not at all hopeful that it would come back. I phoned the help line, they gave me a secret code and within 24 hours it was working again. It is worth calling the helpline to see if they can do anything, but I still wouldn't buy one again.

Well, it's been 16 months since I wrote my review on this frustrating piece of junk, and things haven't improved much, which is a shame because it's so easy to use and things like pausing live tv and recording a whole series is so easy and convenient. But all the problems keep happening, recordings fail (very common), box freezes (on a regular basis), and the best yet: I set it to record a 30 minute program and it recorded 29 hours and 16 minutes non-stop!!!! Half the HDD was used up! Bizarre.

A good system with great functionality, All the channels you could want without the hassle of a monthly subscription, The recording function works well playback is smooth and I feel as if I have got a good product for a great price. I would recommend to anyone.

I bought my recorder Jan 08. seemed like a good buy at the time, good when its working Ok but frequently freezes or deletes recordings. Forever having to unplug or reboot it. Now my remote has a mind of its own and cannot get a new one. RUBBISH

box freezes up, and the only way to get it back on line is to kill the power to it. It cannot be relied on to record properly, a serious waste of time and cash. there has to be better machines out there which work .

We have had trouble with this box for months, picture freezing, not recording all of a programme, forever deleting everything in planned recordings. It took several phone calls to the helpless line in order to set it up in the first place. Now its showing the no signal sign on ALL BBC channels. Can't think of anything good to say about it. Pile of rubbish don't waste your money.

Well judging from the reviews on here I dont think much more needs to be said and most of the shops dont sell it anymore....yes the
Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder is that bad. It is cheap for a reason! It continually froze, crashed and either failed to record programs or deleted them. We were fooled for a while into believing that perhaps it was due to poor signal strength in our area. WRONG! We took returned the box and got our money back. We bought a Digihome recordable box for £80 ...

This Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder box is easy to use when it works. This is the problem as there is a tendency for the box to freeze on a regular basis and repeatedly on occasions. This also means you loose the use of the top up TV service and any recorded programmes. They say it is due to corrupt files but formatting the disc does not help. However the features are clear and easy to operate. It is just frustrating.

We've had the Thomson 160Gb recorder for 18 months but hardly a day goes by without it mal-functioning. No Thomson, this is NOT the way to build a hard-drive recorder. We would throw it away but at least it gives us the 14-day programme planner until we buy a replacement (other make of course).

Almost daily failure to record correctly, sometimes bombs out and re-boots even while watching, records wrong programmes, cannot seem to cope with what's asked of it. Obviously not developed adequately a ...

Bought my Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder last year when there were relatively few recorders on the market, as it appeared to offer good value for money.
Although the remote works well and controls the TV too, the box generates too much noise - I would not reccomend this in a bedroom.
It appears that powering off at the mains also creates its own problems as the programme guide can fail to be updated.
That aside, the recording has only failed once so far and the digital tuner has not shown a ...

The Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder box I had was hopeless - failing to record, freezing while recording.
Unable to watch recorded programs even though they are listed as saved. - You select the program and press ok and the box just switches to live tv

As with other reviews since around 8-9 May 09 the Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder box has had a mind of its own, previously able to factory reset by going into menu / set up / help - then press green button and select factory reset, But since the dates mentioned earlier it no longer responds to the green button hence no reset...wish I could find a fix for it or it is now just a piece of junk.
