I have never had any problems with them, although honestly I have not had cause to deal with any problems. They are significantly cheaper and a fixed monthly payment so the more you ave with them the less it costs, a fraction of the fees with HL. I am a bit surprised at some of the feedback on this forum but they are a low cost provider so need to make some allowances. Their website is not as slick as Hl but it is functional enough.

Ok, its early days,as I have only just set up my account, so all I can comment on is the set up process and a call I have had with with the person I dealt with, who helped me through the process of transferring from other providers. No problems with the set up process. I then called with some queries and got through to the person I dealt with with only a short wait. He was knowledgeable, thorough and helpful. He couldn't have done any more for me. So far so good. I hope they continue with this high standard.

I contacted III and asked for help is setting up a WRAP account, they were most helpful and gave me a breakdown of there costs and the details on how to open an account. I had never done this before and had relied on Financial Adviser's, however the teams help in all matter, even when I got my password mixed up was so helpful. My investments are easy to follow and access, better than I could hope for. The only problem is the secure massaging, am not always able to read them when I open after being alerted! Regards

“A First Class Service”

I have been using Interactive Investor for investing in stocks and shares for 8 years. The website is excellent; it is easy to find information about securities and funds and many funds are available with a big discount on the initial investment. Trading is very straightforward and holdings, statements, trading records etc. are instantly available online and very clearly laid out. The cost is very competitive at £10 per trade and frequent traders are rewarded with a £5 per trade rate after a fixed number of trades have been made in a month. There is a monthly charge of £20, however in return users are given two free trades per month. In addition, fund rebates are made to users (instead of II taking commission, I believe) and these rebates can exceed the monthly charge. To deposit and withdraw funds, users register a bank account. Deposits are made by bank card; II retain the details and can debit one's account whenever necessary, e.g. if there is insufficient cash available to pay the monthly charge. If money is withdrawn it takes 3 days to reach your account; I did find that a little annoying as most bank transfers are practically instantaneous these days using the Faster Payments process. Contact with II can be by phone or secure message. I did not find this necessary very often but on the odd occasion I used either method I was very satisfied with the service. (Response to secure messages used to take several days but there has been a noticeable improvement in the last few years). All in all if you are looking for a trading platform I would have no hesitation in recommending Interactive Investor.

“Ignore all the negative reviews... iii is not for...”

Its clear from reading all the negative reviews here that there many of the unhappy people just haven't understand what iii offers (and in the cases of people who don't know that there is a quarterly charge they clearly haven't read things probably - it is made very clear on the website) Quite simply if you want amazing levels of customer service and no quarterly fees you can go elsewhere to people like hargreaves lansdown. However although you might not be paying a quarterly fee you will be paying far more in ongoing portfolio charges. iii does not have the best user interface or fastest customer service. However it is the market leading in offering a low cost investment platform which will have a far more dramatic impact on your overall wealth over time. If you want to be in control of your investments and have the lowest amount of fees you can't beat iii.

I agree that the pricing is transparent and low, but their customer service is truly shocking. In an ideal world you wouldn't have to use their customer service, but I have found cause to contact them for the following 3 issues in the last 12 months:

1. failure to transfer money in on two occasions from cash Isa accounts (process took over month the first time and I'm still trying for the second time (4 wks so far), they have taken longer than their stated time to reply, they blame the transfers department and can't explain why it failed. They have now asked me to fill in another form and post it to them again to start the process again - which is what happened the last time too - during this period my ISA funds that I wan't to invest have effectively been in limbo.

2. trying to transfer a fund from another provider (I was eventually told after several weeks that they don't support this fund but they can't explain why)

3. trying to purchase an ETF via my ISA (I was told that this was incorrectly marked on site and was actually not available for ISA despite being marked to the contrary - it took them a week to find this out, after I called them back as they hadn't replied as promised)

Before all of this happened, I too thought they were okay as a low cost option, but now I just don't think they are worth the hassle.

“No problems, good value and customer service fine”

I opened an ISA account with iii recently. Found the website a little awkward to navigate initially but once got used to it was ok. When I contacted customer services for advice on how it all works have been given accurate clear advice and when have emailed them i have always had a reply within 48hrs. So have been happy with the service. The quarterly charges include the same value of trades, so if you trade on the regular savers day at £1.50 its good value to build up a portfolio over the long term. I would happily recommend to anyone considering starting up a stocks and shares ISA, i did however move a small pension into a SIPP elsewhere purely because the value I wanted to move into the SIPP was below what iii would accept. So to sum up over all very pleased.

I've just opened up a trading account and ISA/SIPP and am in the process of transferring in stocks and shares from another provider. So far the service has been very efficient, friendly and informative. The charges are very competitive for a fairly large SIPP and ISA and if trading just a few time a quarter it becomes even more interesting. Its early days but I'm not sure why the helpful and friendly attitude of the staff so far should change.

“Best for larger portfolios”

My wife and I have been iii investors for many years and have had no problems. They are significantly cheaper than the Hargreaves Lansdown new charges for larger portfolios. We are infrequent traders so don't mind the £10 trading charge and the quarterly rebates more than cover the £80 annual charge. Their online messaging service always gives answers within 48 hours.

Probably right if you don't trade to often, but this is not what the account is for to make good money you need to trade often, and when you do this is where the problems start

“No problems so far”

My own experience with Interactive Investor has so far been a positive one. Yes you do have to pay a quarterly fee but you also get a free trade in compensation. As I trade quite frequently the charge seems quite reasonable to me. I find the site easy to use and although I've only raised a couple of queries they have been answered to my satisfaction. I am fast approaching a hundred trades in just a few months and I think the service is pretty good. Also, since I trade frequently I get the benefit of those trades during the latter part of the month only costing £5 for each buy or sell. That alone makes the charge fairly insignificant. Obviously, if you don't trade at least once a quarter then I suppose the £20 fee is a bit of a pain.

I have no links to III except that I am a user of their service.
I would be more than ready to give them a verbal lashing if I had suffered what I considered to be an injustice or significant inconvenience but as yet that is not the case.
I sympathise with those who have received poor levels of customer service and tbo I am surprised that III don't monitor sites such as this and add their own 2 penneth.
As the saying goes though , "you can't please all the people, all the time" and maybe that is why they don't.
Who knows.

have dealt with interactive investor for four months now. on the telephone they are second to none in back up. it does take a few days for money to clear before you can transfer from account, but once you sell shares you can buy straight away with the same money. transferring in is instant and dealing is quick as long as you know what you are doing. they have a new log in starting today 30 10 2011 so time will tell if it is seamless for tomorrows trading. highly recommend for you starting out for the first time as it keeps it simple and they answer the phone and you can understand what they say

No problems from me either. Been using for about 3 years now buying funds and shares and never had any problems.

I would definitely recommend this site to others due to the wealth of information contained between the site and its bulletin boards.

Never had to deal with staff so cannot comment there but I personally commend the two stage levels of security with the amount of fraud and cyber-crime
