“Poor Service and Poor Dividends”

Written on: 13/07/2014 by Edmondson260 (1 review written)

They don't reply to your secure messages, they don't ring you back when they said they would, they don't pay dividends on time, sometimes they don't pay them at all. Sometimes your holdings "Disappear" on their website, and become "N/A" what ever the hell that means, so you can't see the price or sell it. … Read Full Review

“Appaling Transfer Service”

Written on: 20/06/2014 by 352McCarty (1 review written)

Having many holdings with Hargreaves Lansdown, I was concerned about the charges my wife and I would incur with HL under their new charging structure. Looking around, Interactive Investor seemed a very competitive alternative, so at the end of January we commenced transfer of our holdings from HL to II. Now, in late June, many funds are still missing and during the transfer process II have made many stupid mistakes which have involved me in much time chasing up. Their staff are always polite… Read Full Review

I have the same trouble and have told them that I intend to transfer out again. They have a article on their website that states if you want to transfer out within 12 months of opening the account that there would be no transfer out charges
If more people transferred away from them then the customer service will improve
It is a shame that the service is bad, as they have an excellent website.
One thing to bear in mind if you have a regular saving into shares, you wait 2 days for the contract note and the deal is always done at the highest price of the day on the day of investment!!!!

I did exactly the same thing and is having similar problems. My transfer request was1st started on 13 Feb 2014. In bits and pieces most of the items were transfered across except Schorders UK Dynamic Units. As at 22nd July they still haven't gone across.

I keep sending E mails to III and keep getting vague replies like 'we are chasing up the transfer'. and they would not give me the completion date.

“They don't pay your dividends - beware!!!”

Written on: 17/06/2014 by 63Brown (1 review written)

I received the following message when my dividend was not paid. I waited until 13 June - still NO payment. I phoned, they promised to call back but didn't. I have called again today and no-one can sort this out. Basically they are holding on to my dividend. Not sure what the "service level agreement" is supposed to be other than the fact they can legitimately withhold funds for two weeks before paying, but on this occasion they have still not paid. I doubt there are any charges that I can make… Read Full Review

“Poor transfer service”

Written on: 14/06/2014 by FrancisFrancis (1 review written)

I applied to iii to transfer an ISA from Hargreaves Lansdown on 7 March. Today, the 14 June I'm still waiting for the fund to show in my iii account despite HL transferring it on 12 May. Two relations initiated transfers at the same time and they both went through by mid May. Has mine got lost. What has Cofunds done with my fund? I've been unable to trade for weeks. Not impressed with the correspondence from iii and now having to resort to complaining to Financial Ombudsman Service… Read Full Review

“AVOID - this company will rip you off”

Written on: 14/06/2014 by 354Vargas (1 review written)

Interactive Investor has a very clever scheme going to rip off any legacy customers who happen to hold shares through them. In July 2012 they introduced a £20 quarterly fee, but they never send invoices or notify clients of the charges. They just quietly deduct the fees from any cash clients have in the account, and then they carry on accruing debt but not notifying them. They do not send clients postal notification that there are charges accruing, or any emails. Instead, they expect clients… Read Full Review

Please see copy of text I sent to their customer their contact email address today:
I am in receipt of your letter of 17 June, the content of which surprised me. This is to register a complaint about your changed terms and conditions, which I am only now aware of since I have not previously received any written notification of changes (please send me a copy of the correspondence you refer to in your letter going back to May 2012 and June 2012 to enable me to review your changes and communication around the same).
At this stage I note that you appear to have put in place charges (for what service precisely?) but you clearly do not send invoices or notify clients of charges.
In my case I have ceased using the email account associated with my interactive investor account so you should have been identified the account as dormant and dealt with matters in a reasonable way. I have seen no evidence that you have done so.
If, as I suspect, you have been quietly deducting fees from the small stockholding I had I believe this to be tendentious behaviour on your part and intend to challenge any alleged debt you may have identified through this practice.
Please now send me a statement of any alleged debt by return to this email address, in addition to the information I have requested above.
I await your advice which in 14 days, which I think is reasonable period under the circumstances.

“No problems, good value and customer service fine”

Written on: 14/06/2014 by 339Dickey (1 review written)

I opened an ISA account with iii recently. Found the website a little awkward to navigate initially but once got used to it was ok. When I contacted customer services for advice on how it all works have been given accurate clear advice and when have emailed them i have always had a reply within 48hrs. So have been happy with the service. The quarterly charges include the same value of trades, so if you trade on the regular savers day at £1.50 its good value to build up a portfolio over the… Read Full Review

“Serious problems after transferring from HL to Interactive”

Written on: 02/06/2014 by mevernon (1 review written)

In December I realised how much HL had been charging for holding my family's ISA and Share and Fund accounts, and just how secretive they were about their charging structure. Their proposed new rates were even more punitive for me so I decided to get out quickly. After much research the ii platform seemed the best for me, with the fixed £80 annual fee being massively lower than HL's percentage based fees. That's £80 for all four of us, by the way. HL attempted to charge me £25 exit fee per… Read Full Review

“Initial Experience”

Written on: 01/05/2014 by Kiddfd168 (1 review written)

I've just opened up a trading account and ISA/SIPP and am in the process of transferring in stocks and shares from another provider. So far the service has been very efficient, friendly and informative. The charges are very competitive for a fairly large SIPP and ISA and if trading just a few time a quarter it becomes even more interesting. Its early days but I'm not sure why the helpful and friendly attitude of the staff so far should change. … Read Full Review

“terrible terrible company and poor admin department”

Written on: 30/04/2014 by sniff (2 reviews written)

My wife asked for her inactive trading acount to be closed when they first advised they were going to introduce quarterly charges a couple of years ago. She received secure email confirming her request and that it would be passed onto the appopriate department. This wasnt done in a timely manner as they 'were overwhelmed by the amount of accounts to be closed' and fees were taken in error, after more messages//phone calls the fees were eventually returned. After a short period she found she… Read Full Review

Written on: 31/03/2014 by madterrier (5 reviews written)

I set up my account when it was Halifax. I find the replacement II platform near-impossible to navigate, especially if you are looking for historical data on trades. I was not made aware of the new rip-off quarterly charges - the email they claim they sent out is not even in my 'Secure messages' which as a passive investor I hardly check anyway. Their customer service staff seem to be trained only in being rude and unhelpful. They are SO argumentative. It's a nightmare trying to have a… Read Full Review

I opened an account with III many years ago to track shares the Company i worked for had listed. Over the years i did a small bit of share trading but lost interest somewhere along the line and have kept several small holding. III made changes a few years back regarding account holders security (if my memory serves me correct), and from that point on i have not been able to access my account, even after having called III and spoken to an advisors on several occasions, my account was not found… Read Full Review

I have had exactly the same experience. What's more, their email system does not alert you AT ALL if when they send a "secure message" to you, and they do not send postal communications so you have to log on to the web site to check if they have tried to contact you. Their trading practices appear to fall well short of the Financial Conduct Authority requirements. I'm hoping someone will start a class action against them so that all customers can claim recovery of fees and compensation. Is anyone aware of any action in progress?

“Best for larger portfolios”

Written on: 23/01/2014 by FifeheadMagdalen (1 review written)

My wife and I have been iii investors for many years and have had no problems. They are significantly cheaper than the Hargreaves Lansdown new charges for larger portfolios. We are infrequent traders so don't mind the £10 trading charge and the quarterly rebates more than cover the £80 annual charge. “Useless”

Written on: 14/01/2014 by ribosomemartin (1 review written)

I've had an account for 12 years, but used it only as a source of financial information. Decided to switch a stocks and shares ISA to them after Alliance Trust Savings increased their platform charges by 90%. When I attempted to open a trading account, I was unable to do so because it claimed some of my personal data differed from those of my initial application. After six 'phone calls and two e-mails, I gave up trying. The call centre staff made no attempt to resole my problem, failed to… Read Full Review

Written on: 24/12/2013 by bignedley (1 review written)

The commission credit system which iii operates is a complete trick. My dividends were set to pay direct into my bank current account but iii.co.uk changed them to pay / accumulate into my online trading account to which they every quarter deduct £20 and if you do not use it within than month you forfeit it! I had not looked at my account for approx. 1 year and they have taken £100 from me in dividends which I can not use at all - they have paid themselves! All calls go unanswered - I have… Read Full Review

You must be a family member or someone who works at Interactive Investor to write this. The 'new' platform is incredibly difficult to navigate, information is riddled with errors and you have to search in several places for information on one trade. I have n o problem using computers and this is easily the worst trading/investing platform I have ever come across

I had the same problem. I bought some RBS shares in 2009 and hoped to just keep them long term. I've not been back on ii since as I have no need (I can work out how much they are worth in my head when I read the paper).

Evidently they have emailed me with the charges but this seems to be via the email system on their web site - which I told them I have not been on since I bought the shares. They then said they had also posted out a letter but when pressed to supply copies they have ignored my request.

Eventually they offered to waiver the £120 I owed them if I kept the shares with them and paid the quartlery charge from January 2014. I wrote back offering to pay £20 for a paper certificate if they would write the charges off and they agreed - although they insisted they are not upholding my complaint as they feel they have done everything within compliance.

I've just sent them the £20 and await the certificate and the clearance of my 'debt'.

If you threaten them with the FSO they will give in. They know that they have not sent out the notifications in the correct format and if you are a novice investor like me the FSO are sure to side with you and ii know this. I think they just don't want to uphold the complaint as it would be bad on their records.

I have had an shares ISA with these guys for the past year and have had no problems. Yes the £20 a quarter is a bit expensive but it encourages you to invest even if its 8 trades/year. When I have had specific questions they have responded through the secure message service very promptly, in less than 2 days. Trades are placed smoothly and the background information on the companies is very good.
