Good Points: It looks good. It is a very classy car. It is Solid and Reliable. The mpg is excellent. I love my GT TDI.

Bad Points: Very volatile in roundabout situations, does not hold the road very well, you have to take roundabouts at minimal speed.

General comments: All round an excellent car. It is expensive to buy, but you get a good car for your money. I love my GT TDI.

After owning an Audi S3 for the past year I had become quite attached. The only thing is...the S3 gave me 25mpg! Even driving it steady meant no more than 26-7mpg so I thought (as well as my wallet did, it was time for a change) I opted for the mk4 golf gt tdi 130 in black and wow is I impressed. I cannot compliment it enough... Ive driven over 300 miles in it so far with an average mpg of 53.brilliant car! It has also been remapped by Customcode and runs at roughly 175bhp, which keeps you smili ...

An all round good car sometimes lets you down by its handling but it more than makes up for it in every other field.

I still own my mkiv vw golf I've just had to have new camshaft nearly 1000 no support from vw what so ever log the fault on the car from new Stafford vw could not trace it as they only have technicians that plug and play i.e if laptop doesn't tell them what is wrong they don't know what to look for. Took the car back 5 times no fault found. Ended up taking the car to Stafford audi who diagnosed straight away contacted vw Stafford and UK warranty avail they just didn't want to know, I ended up pa ...

Had my VW Golf GT TDi lowered 30mm will need to do drop links on front anti roll bar as they are hitting the drive shaft, but that is a minor problem and I have fitted RS6 18inch wheels and it makes the ride so much better and more confidence in cornering - it's a must, I`m thinking of getting the ECU remapped but is 130 bhp ok all should i get more will it give me problems with clutches. It's very rare i get 50mpg out of it only on long trips behaving my right foot had it checked for faults and ...

I've had the car for just under 2 years and love it. Bought 18 months old from a main VW dealer who were polite and reasonably efficient - although their 100+ point check failed to spot broken rear light, broken arm rest and almost bald front tyres. However this was all rectified quickly and without question when it was pointed out on return to the dealership. The car is now just over 3 years old and running well. My previous car was a 1.2 16v Renault Clio and the difference as expected was amaz ...

We bought our car 2 months ago due to needing more space for our little girl and all her things. Always liked the Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GT TDi 130 Mk4. We saw this one, jet black, lowered suspension, R32 rear boot spoiler & 18" RS4 alloys, privacy glass in all rear windows, had to have it. My first diesel car, got a real surprise at the power available, the superchip (ECU re-mapped) giving it an extra 40bhp is amazing, if needed whips ass with a lot of sporty petrol cars, pushes out 170-175bhp. Th ...

I have had my Volkswagen Golf GT TDi 130 for about 2 months now and I'm very impressed with the power and mpg. I am considering getting it chipped/ecu remapped and was wondering if anyone else had had this done? If so what are the gains in bhp acceleration and losses in mpg?

I've had my UK spec Volkswagen Golf import now for 4 year and 70k miles. No major problems - until now. The electrics are really playing up - central locking, main dash screen etc. The main thing that worries me is that the heated seat element in the inside of the driver seat has burnt a whole through. I had started wondering why I felt as if a bee had stung me in the bum all winter!! But now it's getting worrying as it could start a fire and the hole in the seat might get bigger. Has anyon ...

A car that averages 55 mpg yet still out accelerates most 2 litre petrol engined cars is not only cheap to run but great fun to drive too. I'm looking to replace my Volkswagen Golf shortly with a Mk 5 which has an even sportier engine and I shall opt for the DSG automatic rather than the 6-speed manual gearbox this time as they are even nicer to drive.

I've had my Golf for 4 months now and I'm extremely happy with it. The fuel economy is good and the power is excellent. I've got a Subaru Impreza Turbo 260bhp to compare it too and find the Golf isn't that far behind for fun! I've really only got one negative and that's the seat comfort. It could really do with adjustable lumbar supports, which it hasn't got. But apart from that it's great !

I've had the Volkswagen Golf around a year and am thoroughly delighted with it. It looks the business and has a great combination of sports/conservatism to satisfy a more middle of the road driver looking for a bit of enjoyment. The Golf competes with a wide range of other cars, in a variety of factors and offers a number of positives. I've no problem with the dog having plenty of room in the boot, and have had some real good fuel economy on longer journeys. The diesel has a lovely low end ...

Six month's in and delighted with the Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GT TDi. Great performance, with torque across the rev range - superb pull after two thousand revs, and the sixth gear makes for comfortable motorway driving and great economy 55mpg. Overall a great car....

I have owned the Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GT TDi 130 Mk4 since new it's like sex on wheels great fun to drive, wholly reliable average 52-54 mpg. I have travelled 540 mile (S coast to York and back in same day) on less than 1 tank of fuel. Like every thing about it. More subtle design than mark 5 (which looks bloated on steroids)

I have had my Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDi now for 3 months. It was bought as a secondhand car, and with 130bhp, it goes pretty well. Long drivers are a pleasure. After reading a few reviews I am considering lower suspension and bigger wheels, which may make the ride better on countryside roads. Does anyone have any comments or advice on re-mapping the ECU to get more BHP out of this beast, and are there any side effects of that?

The Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GT TDi 130 Mk4 is fantastic I love it. It's the incompetent dealers I HATE with passion now. My 2001 6 speed PD115 was chipped @44k miles, to 150bhp/295torque, Now I'm on 79k miles & engine is still mint. I can't stress how important this was, because the engine block is bombproof, but with VW's standard ECU program, it had 2 annoying flatspots, which make it feel like you're pumping the accelerator! I haven't had any major problems with the car. Heated Seat eleme ...

Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GT TDi 130 (Mk4) I have had many Golfs over the years, starting with one of the first 1600cc 4 speed Gti's, but this is my first Mk4 and my first diesel, and I'm very, very impressed with it! The power and economy are nothing short of amazing. I'm averaging 54mpg in a combination of town & motorway driving, which is pretty good! In standard form, the 130bhp engine has loads of power and a great spread of torque, making it very tractable and able to embarrass many so ...

I have had my Volkswagen Golf from new and at less than two years old it set on fire (luckily I and my baby had just got out about 1 minute before it happened). The dealer had it in the garage for 3 month's and has "fixed it" although doesn't know the cause! All they know is that it was something to do with the electrics and it's back on the road so they consider it "fixed". Quite how then can say it's fixed when they do not know what the problem was is beyond me. It also has a leak that soak ...
