just back from 7 days on norwegian jade,got off to a bad start when arrived in venice found the airport staff very ignorant and uninterested in helping us.my wife checked in and was told they do not accept normal bank cards ie visa debit card.got herded about like sheep by italian speaking people holding plackards saying norwegian jade,once on board we were left standing with no idea where to got,no ships map,got pointed in the right direction to desk after asking.they accepted our bank card... my wife and I are frequent travellers usually staying at 4/5 star hotels. however we were recommended to try a cruise by various friends so we booked 7 days on the Norwegian Jade from Venice to the Greek Islands. Good points Ship was lovely, cabins were great, we had a balcony cabin. Crew were so helpfull and friendly excursions etc were well organized and cruise itinery was excellent Bad points Too many children on board, impossible to get near swimming pools or hot tubs for kids People... We enjoyed our 7 day cruise in May 2012. Food was excellent, service to the rooms adequate and the entertainment very good.. Staff was very friendly. The tours are expensive but aren't they all??? Ideal Cruising delivered everything promised for our 7 day Adriatic cruise on Norwegian Jade. We left the husbands at home because it was a last minute booking and it was the right decision as it would have cost a fortune at the bar with 15% being added to every bill (don't understand why they don't just increase the prices so you know when ordering what it will cost)! hello fellow cruisers,
look, i mostly get peed off by people running down cruise lines,sure you will get your ups and downs,but overall most of them do a great job.
my wife and i have cruised only four times, carnival / msc/ hal / and just recently on the ncl norwegian jade.we were lucky enough to be able to have a balcony on all cruises,(we save our pennies)the cruise on the norwegian jade through the mediterainian was just fantastic.
all of our cruises had things we were not 100% happy...

Between the two of us, this was our 15th cruise. It was interesting that first-timers liked it but experienced cruisers were very disappointed. The lower cost was obliterated by seven (7!) specialty restaurants at extra charge. Drinks were high priced and heavily pushed(we had 7 servers approach us in less than 10 minutes). I had my first cruise with Norwegian Jade in July, and I must say I strongly disagree with your comments. Withe the choice of 12 restaurants, there is plenty to choose between. Most of them are at an extra cover charge, but still only 10-25 USD extra. And I found most of the food very good, nicely presented and with lots of varieties. The choice in the buffet was excellent. The service from all staff was very good and friendly. I will definetely go with NCL and Jade again!

This was our first cruise experience. I would recommed NCL to anyone as a first taste of cruising, the freestyle concept worked well for us it gave us so much choice and flexibility. We had a wonderful time, the staff were attentive and very friendly. The food was excellent and there was enough variety to suit our tastes. This was our first cruise and can i say it was wonderful. The ship was very clean and comfortable. we opted for a inside cabin to keep cost down it was small but enough room to get dressed in and sleep. The food was wonderful so much choice we never had to use any of the other restaurant's the main food hall that was included in the charge was fine. Excursion over priced information given for being able to do your own thing was very poor indeed, and we were warned constantly about missing the ship or being late back because of local transport which we found very good, and the only people that were late back were your own excurions.

I found this review very helpful because...I have experienced similar problems on other cruise lines and quite frankly, this is a typical example of the company taking from the passengers as much as possible with their high priced drinks, excursions and restaurants.
<br/>They do tend to scaremonger in regard to people making there own transport arrangments in order to force their excursions on the more insecure and vulnerable. I hope they realise, we DO have a choice of cruise line and bad reviews are not good for business.

I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL CRUISES TEN IN TOTAL ON DIFFERENT SHIPS AND WE HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN ALLOWED TO TAKE BOTTLES OF ALCOHOL ONTO THE SHIP WE ARE GOING ON THE NCL JADE IN OCTOBER ARE WE ALLOWED TO TAKE OUR OWN ALCOHOL ONTO THE SHIP?

I did not think it was possible to drink your own drink in the cabins. I thought that any drink was taken from you on boarding and that any drink purchased offshore was delivered to your ship and given back to you at the end of the holiday. Can anyone confirm this is the case, it would be a nice surprise if we could drink our own drink in the cabin!

this is why you need to do your own research before you go. As for overpriced drinks, it is mostly taxes and not something NCL can do that much about. Lighten up! When you pay for a cheap room you get what you pay for. Adding in your budget for drinks and shore excursions is part of going on a modest cruise line. If you want all the bells and whistles of a luxury line you'll pay for it in the initial cost--maybe then you won't complain so much.

Don't know why I worried, from picking up the taxi at Barcelona straight to the ship with no hassle, to being greeted by the most friendliest people made the whole trip an enjoyable one. Took taxi to port from Barcelona airport at a cost of 27.5 euros, but 35 euros on return to airport. Embarking/disembarking was quick and easy.

We boarded the ship in Palma, Majorca. Due to a mix up with transfers we arrived at the port just after 9am and were told we had to wait until after 11am to board. Having cruised several times now, I can only say that this was by far the most expensive .The ship itself is fine ,however the tips ,service charges and prices are excessive to say the least. The service was pretty poor with bar staff often serving more than one person at a time ,leaving you waiting ,and then paying a 15% tip each time ..rip off. I can't believe the negative reviews. The cruise was really great. Super friendly staff, bending over backwards to help. Not all the restaurants were free but there is soooo much variety in the free ones especially the buffet. The entertainment was great also. Lovely rooms, everything is super clean. we booked this cruise at the last minute and it was heavily discounted.We picked this cruise line because we have a young son, it is not P&O or Cunard and if that is what want dont choose NCL but it is excellent for families with young children.The restuarant staff were brilliant and always

The only down side is that the designated smoking area on the pool deck is next to the childrens play area

No, Cir De Solie, or blue man Group like thier website claims. They charge extra for everything and nothing is inclusive like thier website says. Food is not Freestyle nor edible. @toppytonkin: exactly. The entertainment features more than just the crew; we saw wonderful Spanish dancers, a Broadway-style musical, and much more. And yes, the crew does entertain, but it's for laughs and by the end of the cruise you feel like family.

Ship is clean and beautiful. You get real excited walking onto ship....then I we all felt we had to keep our hands on our wallets (figurative). We have all travelled many cruise lines. NEVER have we felt TOTALLY RIPPED OFF like we did on NCL. If they could charge your to breathe they would. You pay tips per day then they charge more tips per drinks. The extra's on board are similar to the previous cruises we have taken. We were on the Norwegian Jade for Christmas and new year the staff are really helpfull and our cabin guy was great the food and entertainment was repetitive. There was no gala dinners at all. Day before leaving had a chocoholics buffet for one hour. All they want is to part you from your money, 55 dollars for a behind the scenes tour of the ship and dinner in Cagneys. Excellent cruise that was shamefully let down by the ever worsening British culture of 'me first, families second!'. The staff, ship and itinerary as stated were first class and I would not deter anyone from traveling with Norwegian cruise lines. It is unfortunate that they will need to employ 'big baby minders', but I'm sure as with all other issues they will iron this out efficiently and quickly. (read more)

We have just returned from a 2 week Med cruise on the Norwegian Jade August 2008. First time cruisers in our 30's & maybe a little apprehensive of what to expect...absolutely no need to be! Both my husband & I really enjoyed the whole experience. Embarkation went like a dream, no queueing or confusion extremely well handled. Have just returned from a two week cruise on the Jade which can only be described as a holiday camp on the sea. There were a 1000 children on board and most of them seemed to be left to form little gangs who ran around the ship and played in the lifts. The drinks were the most expensive we have encountered and we have done over 20 cruises before. We certainly would not go with NCL again. I made some amazing friends on this cruise. All the girls were crying on the last night (we stayed together until at least 3 in the morning). There were parties everynight for the teen club (13-17 year olds) and they all had a different theme, for example, the Hollywood party, the White Hot Night Party, Costume Party, Masked Ball, I could go on and on. Management should provide all pax with evaluation forms at end of cruise. Many older pax may not have access to internet. In terms of equality of opportunity these policies and procedures should be reviewed to provide for 1st class customer service. All shuttle buses should be provided free of charge; it was an absolute fiasco. Excursions were overpriced and not enough cups in self service breakfast dining area. (read more)

I have just returned from a 2 week cruise on Jade with 4 teenagers. It was our first cruise and I had some misgivings but it was an exciting, exhilarating experience for us all. The informality might not suit older passengers wanting formal dining arrangements but it was ideal for us. Overall this was our best holiday ever! (read more)

A large sum of money and a great deal of excitement were the build up to this two week Norwegian Jade cruise. Myself, partner and son had been looking forward to our holiday with great anticipation; we are not fussy holiday makers, just a young family hoping to make the most out of a stunning itinerary and a bit of luxury.

Well looking at the comments already given, they must have been on a different ship to me. We are a young modern family, we took my mum and dad who are in their 50s. We all had a great time visiting all the places in the Med. Food was to die for if you go you must try the cheesecake. We could eat when we wanted this suited us, very well priced, we will all go again.
We went on the Norwegian Jade on the 13 June 2008. ps enjoy

We came off the 2 night cruise today (13/7/2008) and we really did have a fantastic time. We love the Freestyle concept of cruising, and with children it really is the way to go. The staff on board were fantastic and are starting to get used to the British passengers. Late nights and late mornings !!! If you are thinking of travelling on the Norwegian Jade - I'd advise against it. Found the checking to be a nightmare and took about one and a half hours. Thought that was bad enough but we also had to queue to leave the ship.
I think the ship is in desperate need of a re vamp. Looked like cheap finishes everywhere and some very peculiar choices for decor colours in my view. Think purple metallic walls, bright orange metallic curtains, deep turquoise ceiling and you will get the picture. I...

the proper spelling for "steak" (the kind you eat) is "steak." Under-Paid is the proper spelling (not "payed").
That being said, it sounds like you are fairly uneducated when it comes to crusiing. You are on a modest budget line and you need to do your research before you book a trip. When you travel on a luxury line you pay up front, and most (not all) of the niggling little charges you are complaining about are included. But for what NCL charges, it's a good value as long as you don't drink yourself silly or run up other charges for things that are options and not included.
My husband and I are going on the NCL Jade very soon, and the comments I've read are mostly from people who want it all, for little to nothing. I find that sad. I hope I don't get a bunch of whining, complaining, negative tourists on board with me! Lighten up! Next time book the trip that puts all the charges up front and maybe then you will feel a lot better about the trip.
