Good Points: -Dazzling array of possibilities-practical controls-decent battery life-built-in neutral density filter -great screen (size and quality)-time lapse-built like a TANK... seriously.

Bad Points: -obsolete viewfinder: viewfinder lovers stay away!-slow continuous shooting speed

General comments: As an amateur photographer, when looking for a camera, I first set out for a DSLR. I found this Canon PowerShot G9 camera thanks to CNET and, after reading a couple reviews decided to start with that. As I ordered it, I felt somewhat deceived of my choice, this lasted until I opened the box. I have now had this camera for over a Year and I've had a GREAT time with this camera (i've hiked through the alps and traveled on a couple of continents with this camera. sample images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lukewhenderson/ ) To this day I've yet to find a scratch on it. Now more about the camera itself; since it's arrival, I've had no regrets over my choice of the G9 over a Dslr. It is, i believe a great introduction to dslrs as it allows you to control the ISO, shutter speed and Aperture Priority with great simplicity. It can also be fitted with removable lens ( when fitted with the LA-DC58H adapter) and a external flash via the Hotshoe connection. This camera also offers some features entry and medium level dslr do not feature such as video and audio recording, time lapse (a feature I very much appreciate), a panoramic mode and of course an array of on-camera editing programs which help compose interesting pictures.A friend of mine recently brought a Dslr (Nikon d40) and I have had the chance to try it out; I've never been so proud of my camera. For a conclusion, I would say this camera is perfect for amateur photographers and a nice second camera for a pro, searching for a efficient point-and-shoot for these moments when a big bulky DSLR just won't cut it. Now I am not saying that this camera is superior to a Dslr, this is after all only a point and shoot.I am myself, looking to upgrade to a Dslr (probably sigma SD14), yet I am preciously keeping the G9 as a point-and-shoot (and as a first love) because some of it features can not be replaced.

I am a professional photographer and bought this camera for the times I cannot or do not wish to carry my heavy DSLR set up. I wanted it because it has RAW capabilities. I find that I rarely use it because of the terrible shutter lag, especially in low light situations. For everyday shooting the image quality is better than acceptable. I would recommend this camera to users looking for a compact camera with many features.

The Canon Powershot G9 is a great camera. It has many useful features such as 12.1megapixel, 6x Optical Zoom, Image Stabilizer and face detection. This latest Canon G series certainly attracts the eye of users. The best price i found for G9 is ikit.net. They also have a whole range of Canon cameras and lens. Welll recommend Canon G9 Powershot.

Bought this for my wife to replace an older IXUS. I personally use and EOS400D and have to say that the images from the G9 frequently outperform the EOS. It's not as flexible as a D-SLR, but if you want a genuinely useable day-to-day camera with top notch quality then I would say you can't go far wrong. My wife has also knocked it off the top of our freezer (over 6 feet drop) and it still works perfectly. Albeit with a small dent in the case. Which btw is right on the corner and would have seen ...

I use it often, since October 2007, 4000+ images and I intend on continuing to use it now that I have begun to see improvements in my ability to get great images with it.

I do not recommend to buy the Canon G9 Powershot as in my experience it simply did not work. If this is not bad enough I found a lot more problems with the customer services therefore I do not recommend Canon either..

I think it's the best Point & Shoot camera because of it's features. You can take from Macro to landscape & tele pictures with perfect quality & also you can take RAW pictures,so You can process pictures manually.the price is a lil bit high but it costs that. If you're printing your pictures, 12.1 MP images will be perfect for that. on the other side, the view finder has no use because it's very small & covers 80% of picture area. in images with ISO more that 400 (depending on light source & sett ...

The Canon G9 Powershot is the best point and shot camera i've owned that is not a full blown dslr. You can put it on auto and it takes great shots or you have enough options to keep you occupied for hours.

This product can be enjoyed, this is not drag. This is very compact instrument that can be carry in a purse or coat pocket and grab that snapshot quickly. If you're a serious photographer you'll likely want the flexibility of use and higher quality results. I ma very-very happy with this item.

I bought this for someone who needed a good compact camera. I took the time to check it out and make sure it did what it was supposed to do. I was very impressed. This is simply the best compact camera available. We're lucky too that as it's been selling so well, the price has come down.

The Canon G9 Powershot feels like it is strong to handle, good price. Manual should be in book form not on disk, start up book very good, but that said it makes you want to find it's hidden secrets. I was lucky the salesman at John Lewis gave me a quick master class lesson, but still got lots more to find out about this gem. It was expensive at £20 and a bit tight to use, strap far to small. Used at School play for the first time, took about 10 photos and about 10 minutes of video, excell ...

The Canon G9 Powershot is a great camera. For those, like me, that want quality but don't want the weight and price of a SLR this is as close as you can get. The results became better and better when you learn to use the modes and give the auto mode a rest.

The Canon G9 PowerShot is a very flexible, very compact instrument that will travel well in a purse or coat pocket and grab that snapshot quickly. If you're a serious photographer you'll likely want the flexibility of use and higher quality results obtainable with even middle-of-the-road DSLRs. Oh yes... the 12.1 Megapixels? In my view, the results are no better than a camera with half that number. But then, I've not tried to make enlargements from either. On a computer screen I see no differe ...

I am really happy with my Canon PowerShot G9, and always I use to have Canon, the reason I've choosen these unit because I've read loads of review saying this camera using almost same as SLR camera functions which is DIGIC III, I've paid £280 in TCR but the reason I've got cheap I've check online prices such as Pixmania, junglezon and ebuyer.
