Good Points: Extraordinary photographs, beautiful production values, extremely elegant presentation.
Bad Points: Unfortunately, not all the scholarship in the world can ensure mistakes aren't made. The author's identification of the owner of a house in Regent's Park as American real-estate heiress Alice Astor Pleydell-Bouverie is mistaken; the house's owner was another erstwhile member of the Pleydell-Bouverie family, n e Audrey James. Also, some of the text entries are short enough to leave one wanting much more in terms of exposition and history.
General comments: John Cornforth, London Interiors: From the Archives of "Country Life" - Part of a series of books featuring photographs of historic houses from the archives of Country Life magazine, "London Houses" is a fascinating look at days (and styles) gone by. Each interior chosen is a revelation of its kind and was photographed with a degree of intimacy, even adoration, that remains unmatched to this day.
