Good Points: It had a few classic games that have now become collector's items. The most notable of these being Sonic CD, arguably the greatest 2D Sonic game ever created, with its big levels and excellent graphics. It also had quality sound on most of the games that would not have been possible on the mega drive. It was one of the first CD based games consoles around and had the ability to play music CDs, which back in the day was an extraordinary benefit.
Bad Points: Full motion video was only half a screen and not a lot of good games for it. There were mostly direct ports of mega drive games with just a few minor changes such as better music, CG sequences and a few extra levels. A lot of the games were rubbish and hidden behind flashy video and had to run off its own power supply, cluttering up your room. In my opinion one other point is the very slow loading times.
General comments: One of two very much unneeded add-ons for the excellent mega drive that was too expensive at launch, had few classic titles and was seen by many as a massive failure which had damaged Sega's reputation which resulted in the failures of the Saturn and then the Dreamcast. It was technically superior to the mega drive however which meant that some of the games looked better, even those ported from the mega drive such as Ecco the dolphin and Chuck Rock which had much better music as well and when sonic CD is played compared to the mega drive sonic games, you will see just how much better a simple mega drive game can be, with its amazing tunes being the main thing. Overall though, it is not recommended as there were not many games and of those that were relesed the vast majority were ultimately unplayable.
