I have naturally dark/medium blonde hair with both ashy and reddish tints to it and I wanted an easy way to lighten my hair all over. Schwarzkopf was my first choice as I thought it was a good branded and had great results from previous shades however I have not been more disappointed. My hair has actually darkened from this dye and gone yellow on the roots and a very bright orange on the ends. I even used a slightly longer time to do it. My hair was dirty blonde before this. Now, it looks like I have YELLOW hair. I mixed everything correctly and used the anti-brass conditioner. I swear I think the conditioner ADDED MORE YELLOW TO MY HAIR. I am embarrassed and have to go buy a DIFFERENT BRAND of hair dye tonight to fix this mess. I have been using this product on my hair and roots for a year now I am a natural warm light brown as you may know warm colours are particularly hard to get a platnum colour, but I have never had any problems with this product it brings my hair to a lovely light blonde, yeah it kills your hair abit only if you keep going over the same bits again, (one time application for 45-50 mins even tho it says 30-45 on the box another 5mins won't hurt) a one time application on natural undyed hair wont... I previously had dyed dark red/brown hair, and back in May had a total bleach all over with highlights, which was fairly successful and took my hair to a mid blonde shade. Since then I had a couple more sets of highlights done but my roots were becoming a pain and I wanted to go a little lighter all over. I love this colour i initially used the max blonde to do my hair with used about 3 boxes to get me blonde.. not a problem and then i used platinum and it went brighter blonde but was still kinda brassy.. again not a problem the reason people on here have orange or brassy hair is because they dont tone it.. you can get something called colour effects conditioning colour 8:1 cool blonde to use after to get rid of the brassy-ness or use colour endure violet shampoo.... I love this product!! i got told it turns hair gingery golden and was a very bad blonde hair dye but i wanted golden gingery hair so i used it but i got bleach blonde hair!! And my hair was mousey brown to start with, i grew to like the bleach blonde but put a golden shade on it, i would recommend using it twice over if you want a proper platinum colour i dont think it will work on all first time but my hair was so vibrant and light!!! I have naturally mousey hair which i had previously highlighted with bleach and used a box of perfect ten blonde on. I wanted a brighter blonde so i got XXL Absolute Platinum. I needed to use two boxes on my shoulder-length, fine/medium hair. This dye is really effective, I look like a totally different person! It's very bright, very very pale shiny blonde. I've seen bad reviews for the product, not sure why though. So I guess partially it could be hair condition, but considering mine... I doubt it. I've died my hair constantly for the last 11 years, and it's not in the best of conditions. My guess is that the dye hasn't been mixed properly based on what people are saying. I've found that not only does the platinum blonde work well it also damages my has a hair a lot loss than conventional bleaches and leaves it the perfect shade for colouring... (read more)

I have used this product to HELP as part of my progression from dark brown/red dye build up, to platinum blonde. This product will not lighten your hair in one go if it's already dyed, or any darker than medium brown...none of them will!!! If your hair is already dyed, use a COLOUR REMOVER first, you can use them over and over again to remove dye build up, and this is the simplest way to strip your hair back before lightening.. and the most gentle. I bought this dye coz i always wanted to go real real blonde so when i saw the ad i decided on this one. I just want to warn anyone thinking of buying this dye, dont do it! I saw the picture on the box and thought to myself sure i would love white blonde hair like that! I had dark blonde hair to begin with and according to the box my hair should've went extremely blonde after using it. Yeh right! The only reason your hair went that colour was because you didn't tone it. Everyone knows that if you bleach/die your hair blonde that it will go brassy and yellow unless you either use a toner that you can buy or use a toning shampoo. I would recommend using Schwarzkopf silver shampoo because I have been using it and it instantly gets rid of the golden and brassy tones and turns them more ash blonde. To achieve the colour on the box you have to tone it, you can't just expect your hair to go white first time.

I have been dying my hair with L'Oreal Recital Preference 01 for a couple of years now. I have never used toner and you are correct it does look brassy so I just dye it every 3 weeks. Should I use one of these toning shampoos for a couple of weeks and then try the XXL Platinum dye and then keep using the toning shampoo or should I try the toning shampoo once then the dye? Completely unsure what to do and dont want ginger blonde hair. Only dye my hair blonde as it hides my very thin hair volume. thanks

do it again and bye a white toner, the toner gets all the impurities (orangy yellow bits)out your hair the toner shoud be blue or purple and their cheap :)

There must have been some different colours in your hair or it hasn't been left on long enough. My natural hair color is Medium Brown and this blonde is the only one I've ever used that lifts my roots and gives all over lovely color of blonde

I bought this product after having used many other colours in the Schwarzkopf Live Colour XXL range. I was extremely happy with all the previous colours that I put in my hair but this one is NOTHING like them. I had my hair bleached at the hairdressers a few weeks ago and put a semi permanent red colour over it. It's because you had red hair, reds are well known for being really hard to dye light colours because they go brassy, even the semi-permanent ones, you should have bought a home colour stripper and put it on for about 10 minutes to get the red out. As for the burning scalp you should have done a skin test 24 hours before hand, which you are supposed to do with all hair colours, even the ones you have tried before, so you can't have read the box properly because it is definitely on there.

I originally went to a salon where they refused to do an all over head colour because they claimed that it would go very brassy or very yellow, but that finely woven blonde highlights would give the same effect, as it would sort of "mix" with my natural colour. I am a male with brown hair. I wanted slight highlights. On the packaging there is a man with brown/dark brown hair with really light almost blond highlights. I bought this product and tried the first batch, nothing worked. It says on the packaging "for lighter results repeat process". I repeated eight times. I'm really disappointed with this dye, I usually love the live xxl colours but this one failed completely. It dyed bits of my hair orange or yellow and some bits it didnt even touch even though I had massaged the colour in properly and left it on longer than what the instructions said to. I've been dying my hair for years and have never had a problem until now. Luckily I have a funky colour to stick on top of the lighter bits to make them look deliberately unusual instead of a fail-dye joke.... (read more)

i've used this product several times and it makes my hair really blonde like it says on the box. i would use it again and again but only to top my roots now instead of all over. i love how light my hair goes once it dries. i've always coloured my hair blonde and it's much better than belle colour and nice&easy. these products never got my hair the colour i wanted. to anyone who says it turns your hair orange the colours it shows you on the box are natural colours so if u have naturall dark brown hair yes it will go the colour it says. however if your hair is dyed it will be harder to lift depending on how many colours you have on top of eachother. for example if you die your hair brown say 10 times then decide to go blonde it will have to strip through them colours before it can start to work and will go orange. dont expect your hair to go straight... id advise doing it again, im no hairdresser but go over it, get it a nice pale yellow, and tone it, purple toner, purple shampoo's, shimmer lights ect. ive done a few bleaches and i got the brassy effect, im pink now, but the toners worked a treat on my blonde hair

I had high hopes for this hair dye, but it left my hair in a terrible state, full of orange and yellow tones. I really wanted to have platinum blonde hair, as the box tod my I would have, but no such luck. I followed the instructions carefully and left it in for a very sufficient amount of time, so I dont know what went wrong. Also my hair before I dyed it was not a very dark colour at all so it should have worked. I wont be using it again! (read more)

use touch of silver shampoo it takes all the yellow and orange out your hair, its brillaint and its not expensive at all!. I recommend it

This would be because your hair had too much red in it. I assume you had brown hair which has a lot of red in it, that or you've dyed it red or some similar colour in the past and it hasn't all left. I always recommend asking a hairdresser their opinion before selecting a new colour.

If you have any golden tones in your hair no matter the shade, the result is either going to be orange or yellow. You need to apply again to get rid of the orange and then tone once you are at the inside banana peel colour to reach platinum.
My hair naturally is dark brown almost black (although it is dyed black at the moment) I have this for when the black grown out and I expect it to go dark orange, light orange yellow, then yellow or maybe banana yellow at the third application ready to tone. Brown hair has red pigment and bleaching this (as this is what this product is) creates orange (yellow+red=orange). Apply again so get the shade on the box and possibly another time again. Some natural colours will turn blonde on the first application but it really does depend on the pigment in your hair to start.

It's brilliant! If you were to go to a salon for that colour it would on average takes two or three attempts, costing around £100+ My advice, always buy more than one box, have enough of the product to completely and thoroughly cover your hair. I read loads of bad reviews about this hair dye but I decided I would try it and I was expecting to end up with bright orange hair or something! I dyed my hair black for about 3 years? and the last time i did it i left it quite a few months and the roots started coming through, so i decided to see what would happen if i put platinum blonde on it. My hair was dyed red originally and I went to a hairdresser to have the red colour stripped out and a light brown put on top, after a few months I decided my hair was in good enough condition to go blonde. I pre-lightened my hair then put 00A absolute platinum on, I used 2 packs and left it for 40 minutes, it made no difference to the colour of my hair and left my roots yellow. i think this product is absolutely brilliant. i'm 15 and my hair used to be blonde naturally until a few years ago when it started to go a brownish colour. i used many different hair dyes and once i tried this one i haven't tried another, i only use it on my roots now but i usually need 2 boxes as my hair is quite thick. i didn't get any of the yellow brassiness that people have said about but i use 'a touch of silver' shampoo sometimes anyway to make sure it stays bright (read more)

I used to use this hair dye for almost a year and a half, when ever I got roots I would use it, NEVER on the whole of my hair tho, not after the first couple of times just to get that colour! It took really well although I did already have quite light blonde streaks on my hair! But I used it on my roots for 18 months after like I said and it always turned out like it showed on the box, mind you my natural colour is a dirty blonde, so maybe if your hair is really dark to begin with it might... My Hair is very short and I am almost platinum I use Live XXL Absolute Platinum, at first it went on really good but in the last couple I have had my roots are going a brassy yellow and it is driving me mad.
My friends say they cannot see the yellow but I can, my hairdresser use to colour it Platinum but I was made redundant and could not afford the prices, so I started using Live XXL, I have used all the purple shampoos and conditioners and I look after my hair is their anyone out there...

I have platinum hair, I use xxl absolute platinum, what I find works is the little wella toner sachets, you can buy them from anywhere that sells hair dye really, any supermarket, I get them in ash blonde, don't worry they don't make your hair darker (it stays platinum) they're like £1 or cheaper depending on where you buy it, and they really do get rid of all the brassy tones, I find they work better than all these shampoo toners (I've been through many) so it's worth a go, you could just get 1 and then see if it works for you. :)

I have used this dye and colour for the past 3 years,it is superb the colour is so intense, my natual colour is dark brown with a lot of grey.
as i have short hair and have regular cuts, any dry ends are soon dealt with.
its easy to use, and takes around 30/40 mins to develop.

I think this dye did a pretty good job on my overdyed hair! you just have to be realistic about what to expect if you have previously coloured..:)I haven't seen my natural hair for the best part of 6 years (brown...) and I've dyed it red, black, blue, green, pink and purple in the meantime - so was I expecting "platinum blond" - no I was not. Well what colour was your hair originally before you used the product? I found using it when I was going from dark to light that it went a bit orangey blonde after it was already a dark blonde, use it once more after that and it'll turn platinum.

Response: DON'T LISTEN ! I had black hair and used it 4 times! After the first pack it changed my hair GINGER. If you use it again, it'll just make your hair a lighter, brighter GINGER. Believe me it will. I used it 4 times. I recommend you using a bleaching kit (like BBlonde) aswell as using toners. THEN... deep condition and try Absolute Platinum XXL again. **TRUST ME, I BEEN THERE** Gosh I hate people that comment when they haven't got a clue what'll happen! :L

I used to bleach my hair every month but my hair dresser (who is my friend) told me about this hair colour, I have now used it for over 3 years and love it
I too had the yellow/brassy colour effect going on and I asked my hair dresser what would fix this and she told me about 'A touch of silver' I use the shampoo and conditioner and it seems to work on my hair, I buy the hair colour from The Body Care Shop, £3.75 and the shampoo and conditioner from Boots at £1.99 per bottle

I am a male who had almost white/grey hair. Because the colour was uneven, after tries of few other products I bought this kit. I don't even need the whole kit, as I have 'number 2' all over. Easy to use and I am very happy with it. Nobody even thinks that it is dyed/bleached....I have a haircut and a new kit every 2 weeks. (read more)

i have bought this product several times, and yes it can cause your hair to go yellow/orange. A good way to sort out this problem is to use "pro:voke touch of silver" shampoo and conditioner, it does take a couple of washes for the yellow/orange to come out but i have found that leaving the conditioner on over night can help it to come out quicker. I was sceptical about touch of silver at first but it really did help, i have platinum blonde hair all the time now :) (read more)

I used this product and was happy with the result even though it wasn't exactly the colour on the box (because I didn't follow the instructions 100%). I think that anyone buying this product needs to realise that if you have lots of hair you need to buy enough to do the job, which could mean multiple packets. If you don't you're going to end up with something a bit dodgy. The parts of my hair which had quite a thick coating did turn out very light even though my hair was dark brown... (read more)

I've been using Scwarzkopf Live Colour xxl absolute platinum for about 3 years now! I LOVE it! I got recommended it by a friend a few years back as my hair had been highlighted but I wanted it brighter! My hair is as bright as the sun! lol but thats how I like it. I would totally recommend this product to anyone... but if you hair is really dark, then I'd recommend getting it lightened at a salon first,then use the product. My thoughts on Scwarzkopf Absolute Platinum...
I have be constantly dying my hair for over 4 years now and this is still my most bought product!!
I bleached my hair from black to blonde very harshly and quickly, with another product, I had to have it all cut off but the short hair was a nice yellowy blonde, since then I have been every shade of blonde possible.
I have had WHITE hair for months and this always evens it out after regrowth, I use toner and silverising products to get rid...

to everyone that has written reviews that it turned your hair yellow ect, you all need to learn to do a strand test. you obviously have previously dyed you hair making it lift at different stages down the hair strand. if you had done a strand test you would have known your hair wouldnt lift to the white blonde/ or at worse dissolve and weaken with the stength of the bleach and it could have saved you from having the disaters you are left with.
take note future users, do a strand and skin...

i used this product because i wanted to go a lighter blonde it went light blonde and was the same colour on the box but after a while at the back of my hair started to feel like cottonwool and started falling out i had a massive gap at the back of my head and had to start going to the hair salon has this happend to anybody ele let me no thanx holly?????? I used this on my hair for the first time as a friend recommended it and I had gingery red hair with a lot of blonde highlights through it and this turned my hair bright yellow. My hair was gorgeous before but I wanted to go Lady Gaga blonde... what a mistake! I really wish i had looked up reviews for the product before I put it in my hair. i bleached my hair and dyed it using the red XXL colours. but it faded fast and went ginger.. so i decided to be dramatic and go platinum blonde.. my hair went a weird yellow colour using this dye aswell, just like it did with the bleach.. but i just used a toner with violet in it like my friend told me to do after bleaching my hair and the yellow isn't as bad now (: and my hair is less patchy than it was after bleaching (: and a nice light blonde'ish shade, so i think its a good product...
