Our Hotpoint FF187E fridge freezer suffered with the fridge not cooling properly, and the bottom drawer freezing solid. I read these reviews and fixed it myself. Sure enough once I'd emptied out the freezer section and unscrewed all the plastic at the back, it was solid with ice, blocking up the pipes to the fridge. I got a plastic seaside bucket, and rested the hairdryer on it, for 15 mins or so. The ice was attached to the cooling element so I had to be careful. Then I tapped it lightly and it all fell out, and I put it all back and it works fine. If you're quick enough you can do this without all the food defrosting. You need to unscrew about 8 screws to get at the ice. Its clearly got a big design fault.

There is clearly a design fault with this fridge freezer. If yours has ice build up which stops cold air flow to fridge section- do not delay and call hotpoint now-mine did this 3-4 times in 12 months. (frost free is supposed to be frost free contary to what the engineer said )do not defrost before his visit as the engineer will do nothing- the design fault is that the heating element is not long enough which allows ice to build up and clog the air flow. the first engineer bent the filament furt ...

I have had this fridge freezer the Hotpoint ff187e for 3 years but there is a sheet of ice under the bottom drawer of the freezer.I have chipped it out and after only a week there is another layer.I came across these reviews for this model and was surprised to see it is kind of the same.At least I have had mine longer. What a disappointment to say the least.Hotpoint always had a good name.To get an engineer would be a few pence under £100 and how much for a part if needed looks like it is ...

I have had my Hotpoint FF187E Fridge Freezer for over 2 years. recently we noticed that the freezer was leaking. I have just noticed that our food in the fridge compartment is going off in a matter of a couple of days. Milk was not cold and going off, cans of beer were warm and cheese was sweaty.I have read several reviews this morning, Had I known this I would not have bought this pile of junk. I was just about the call for the engineer but most reviews seem to say we have to take off the panel ...

Do not buy this fridge/freezer because it is far from frost free. Our experience is the same as the posts here and elsewhere on the internet of ice build up behind the freezer wall preventing air flow to the fridge compartment and overwhelming the defrosting unit after 12 months use. If it were possible to give this product no stars I would.

If you did buy this fridge, reject as soon you have a problem. Do not do what we did and accept you have to defrost it every 12 months because the reality ...

I have had the fridge freezer for under a year and have had to defrost it three times because of its very poor insulation design which builds up ice quickly.I phoned hotpoint who today sent out an engineer- he said it was normal to defrost the the frost free fridge many times.Either you wait a few days to allow it to defrost completely (losing all your food) or DIY with screw driver 2 covers in back of freezer section. very disappointed by hotpoint brand.

At first we thought the Hotpoint FF187E fridge freezer was great, but near to a year in, my wife noticed the fridge getting warmer. As everyone says about this unit, it's no frost free and a poor design makes the shared cold air ducts block very easily. Also, if you have a nervous pet, the banging from the ice hitting the bottom when it's circulating is not good!
At least if you buy a good old original fridge freezer, at least you can see the ice build up. If you have young family too I wouldn' ...

We bought a hotpoint fridge freezer last December. By May we'd had two engineers come to fix it (Ice build up in freezer, fridge not cold enough, loud noises). Hotpoint replaced it after I threatened to take them to the small claims as the thing didn't do its job and they couldn't fix it in a timely manner (We'd waited weeks for them to try and get one part!!) We've had the new one for 3 months and it has started to make loud noises.

Hotpoint used to be a reputable manufacturer, but like so man ...

Hotpoint FF187E Fridge Freezer. This product is stylish and modern with electronic controls and warning features. However, it seems to have a design fault which allows ice to build up in the normally inaccessible inside rear panel of the freezer section. This blocks the chilled air flow and the symptom is progressive inability to maintain low temperatures in both freezer and fridge, as the cool air flow is shared. I had to call a service agent who borrowed my daughter's hairdryer to melt the bu ...

Would like to thank all for reviewing product as have saved us a fortune in engineer charges at a time when we can least afford it.. but then again when can you! Like everyone else iceberg behind the back of freezer inside, fridge warm, leaking at the bottom, food going off losing money and our patience at a rapid rate. Also low and behold when it is just out of warranty the problems start! This is a shoddy product from what was once known as a respectable manufacturer. Will ensure to make a poi ...

Thank you all so much for your reviews was actually looking to download manual and stumbled across this. Same problem it seems, noticed fridge was warming up and food going off very quickly,so after reading all your reviews took the back panel off and YEP! there it was enough ice to keep a penguin happy. I do feel very cheated on this product, back to earth with a bang as it's back to defrosting again. Wish I'd read the reviews prior to buying:( Somebody in Hotpoint needs the sack ! self defros ...

We have ice forming in the bottom of our Hotpoint FF187E and water leaking onto the floor like everyone else seems to have. Sometimes so bad the bottom drawer is frozen in.

door seal needed replacing after 11 months.
Also this fridge freezer has a problem with ice block build up behind the freezer back panel.
I was charged £100 by Hotpoint just for someone to turn up, use my wife's hair dryer to defrost a supposedly frost-free appliance !
This being the standard charge just for labour!
The one year warranty is not enough .....

We have had our Hotpoint FF187E for about 2.5 years. At first all was well, however, after just 2 years the problems started. This fridge freezer is advertised as a 'defrost free' appliance which is incorrect. Ice starts to build up around the motor, which in turn, starts to block up the freezer vents and the freezer starts to warm up. As the fridge uses the coolness of the freezer to keep cold this also begins to warm up. As a result the appliance alarms sound and you have to remove all content ...

Our Hotpoint FF187E has malfunctioned three times in 15 months.
Firstly the freezer door seal kept coming away and their engineer replaced this under warranty.
Then the fridge drawer cracked for no apparent reason but fixed this myself using a bolt!
Then - big time - as with so many other people - the fridge was too warm due to pack ice building up .
Nothing in the manual about this or otherwise informed of the risk - Hotpoint didnt tell us when we rang them up .. just sent an engineer out who ...

I hate this Hotpoint FF187E. Wish i'd seen the negative reviews when i bought it but you just see the good reviews that say yes great fridge/freezer lots of space etc. It's only when the fridge stops working you wonder what has happened. You call an engineer who asks if it may need defrosting. You laugh - its a frost free model you say. Then you cry as you pay a £100 call out to see someone take the inside back off your freezer and defrost a huge wall of ice that has formed inside your FR ...

This Hotpoint FF187E fridge freezer has been nothing but a heap of junk. Mine broke down a few times during the warranty period. I had to take numerous days off work to be at home for engineer.

I am just out of warranty and now have the problem it seems everyone else has had, ie the fridge not getting cold. Thanks for the heads up re the need to defrost, that has saved me handing over yet more cash for another engineer's visit and more time of work!

Thank you so much to everyone here for their reviews..... you've saved us time and money with our Hotpoint FF187E..... as advised by many of you, after removing the back panel inside the freezer, we discovered an iceburg of Titanic proportions, firmly stuck and blocking the vent that takes the cool air to the fridge. Once this was removed, all's now working again. Have taken photo of the iceberg and will be sending to Hotpoint with a letter from a very disgruntled customer. Their Customer Ser ...

When my Hotpoint FF187E broke, they offered to mend it for £90 with only a 3 month guarantee or £110 for 10 month guarantee. It's a heap of junk. Hotpoint customer services were useless.

Campaign needed to get legislation passed to make companies manufacture goods which are long lasting and ecologically sound. Companies need to be forced to take back malfunctioning machines at their own expense. Surely all white goods should be expected to last a minimum of 10 years.

    I aske ...

My Hotpoint FF187E stops working every 6-8 weeks due to the space behind the freezer compartment icing up completely. I defrost mine by taking off the back panel letting it thaw and removing the ice. That is all the engineer did, it does not solve the underlying problem. This machine is not fit for purpose in my experience. Not recommended.
