“DON'T BUY THIS!!!!!”

Dreadful fridge freezer. All food freezes in the fridge especially veg, this is on the 'holiday' setting. Ice builds up in the bottom of the freezer, constant puddles of water on the kitchen floor, the door seals are ripped and all the drawers are broken. Don't ever buy Hotpoint. What a waste of money!!!!… Read Full Review

“Frost free but freeze sides are broke”

Written on: 06/06/2014 by Molloy373 (1 review written)

We have had the fridge freezer over a year now and have had no problems apart from the plastic ridges that the freezer drawers run on are breaking up and you can see the inards of the appliance there is only my wife and I so it is not getting enough use to cause that much damage. I feel riped off as we paid a pretty penny for cheep rubbish… Read Full Review

“Frost free - no it isn't!!”

Written on: 01/05/2014 by Davis444 (1 review written)

I have suffered similar problems as others. From time to time the fridge becomes warm and I have learned through reviews that the best solution is to empty completely and turn off for 24 hours. I bought this fridge freezer because I didn' want the hassle of defrosting it!! Big mistake!! Steer clear… Read Full Review

“Absoulute ****!!!”

Written on: 12/10/2013

The amount of time I have wasted sorting this damned fridge out is ridiculous, and the amount of money I have wasted because of the fridge being warm and ruining food is also ridiculous. I hate my fridge freezer and will NEVER EVER buy anything hotpoint again. Anyone thinking about hotpoint because it's on offer, don't do it! Pay a bit more money and get something that won't let you down. Gone are the days when you bought a fridge freezer that would last you a decade, it seems now you have to… Read Full Review

“Supposedly Frost Free”

Written on: 06/06/2013 by Jiko (1 review written)

Had it for a few years now. Two times engineers have been out and "fixed" it... Now it's done it again - a puddle on kitchen floor. After doing some research, it appears that it's a very common problem with it. The drain hole get blocked with ice, and a ice block is build up around the evaporator behind the freezers back panel. When you buying a 'Frost free' fridge freezer, you don't expect it to build an excess of ice instead. This is definitely a construction fault, looking at how many… Read Full Review

“STAY AWAY!”

Written on: 07/12/2012 by RBT1919 (1 review written)

First one replaced under warranty within 3 months after the interior of the freezer fell apart due to not being correctly filled. The second one last just beyond warranty before the same fault occurred and the much mentioned ice build up led to us having a heating element fitted to keep the drain clear. Absolute garbage. Won't touch Hotpoint or Indesit again… Read Full Review

Hi i have just seen all the reviews on this f/f. I had this prob with mine.cleared ourselves a few times. Under extended warranty after 2nd visit was told there was a faultt and was fitted with extra wire in the back as apparently there was a fault with these as the wiring did not extend all the way down the back of the panel. Looked like a metal coat hanger. Has done the trick but if we didn't have the extra cover don't know what would have happened. Good luck with your claim

“Hotpoint Ff187e. Utterly Useless, ”

Written on: 01/09/2012 by Thermoman (1 review written)

We have had ours for around 2 years. In the last year i have had to ditch well over what the unit cost us tn wasted food as the fridge section keeps stopping. As everyone else here is stating this is caused by ice building up in the freezer. The fridge cools by air being drawn from the freezer and blown into the fridge compartment. This has 2 design flaws, the first is the ice build up, frost free really means frost not visible as its hidden behind panels so its usually too late by the time you… Read Full Review

I totally agree with this and many other poor sods who have had the misfortune to buy one of these totally useless and unreliable appliances. I have just wasted a fortune throwing food away that was ruined. Never again. I could of course sell the machine on, but I am going to get great pleasure taking a hammer to it. This is one Hotpoint Future 187L that will not be costing anyone anything again.

“Never hotpoint again!”

Written on: 03/08/2012

I have had Hotpoint appliances over many years but the last two (FF187E fridge freezer and Washer/Dryer) have been worse than lemons. How do they get away with it? So many - it must be most every one - have this problem! I have had it taken care of twice and it is happening again. I will have to replace it but it will not be with a Hotpoint that is for sure. … Read Full Review

“ICING UP FF187E”

Written on: 13/06/2012 by TADBEER (1 review written)

I have had the same problem as numerous reviewers, with ice forming in the freezer comparment. After 3 years it looks as if I shall have to buy a new fridge freezer,(NOT A HOTPOINT). I have had to take inside back panel and fan assembly out 4 times and then go to work with a hair-dryer to remove the large chunks of ice forming over the drain hole. Hotpoint should by now admit that this is a design fault an compensate owners for lost food and man hours to clear the fault. This is the second F/F… Read Full Review

“Has anyone resolved the common problem?”

Written on: 08/06/2012 by Davy58 (0 reviews written)

I have the same problem as everone else with this machine. Water runs out the freezer door with ice building up on the floor of the freezer and finally the fridge does not work. Remove the internal panels of the freezer to find the huge ice build up which blocks the vents to the fridge stopping the cold air getting there.Defrost the unit and everything is ok for a couple of months. I have now been told that the problem is with a faulty thermister not working and thus stopping the freezer from… Read Full Review

Have had the fridge freezer for 3 years and for the third time now my husband has had to take the panel off and defrost it with a hairdryer. “Absolutely USELESS”

Written on: 14/01/2012 by Ginnie1966 (1 review written)

Same problem as every has already mentioned, i.e.: * Food freezing up in the fridge WHEN the fridge works * Building up of ice at the bottom of freezer compartment. Removed 5.2kgs!!! of blocked ice behind panel and underneath stucked drawer * Then the fridge stopped working As Hotpoint not ready to concede to a fault of the product, nor a recall, took pictures of ice blocks and taking them to small claim court. How many customers have you lost now, Hotpoint? Customer Service??? I think NOT… Read Full Review

“Not Frost Free”

Written on: 21/12/2011 by EstherKT (3 reviews written)

Stylish FF but we had a similar problem as a lot of the other reviewers. The fridge freezer collects frost at the back causing it to shut down causing all my food to go off. This happened 3 times and with a baby and expressed milk in the freezer this is a disaster. We managed it a bit longer by regularly defrosting it, but that is just not practical with kids and certain items. Got rid of the FF all together and replace it with a brilliant AEG… Read Full Review

“ICING ISSUE FIXED”

Written on: 04/06/2011

I've had this FF nearly 5 years and after about a year experienced the icing issue reported by MANY people. After a couple of fruitless "dismantle and defrost" attempts I discovered that the CAUSE of the problem in my unit is the small black drain pipe which exits to a tray at the back of the FF (accessed from outside at the back). Instead of being circular, this pipe was crimped shut at the end and was simply not draining out and had collected some debris, causing water to back up into the… Read Full Review

Thanks for this suggestion...I've just tried it. The pipe was closed and opening it back up was a fiddly job but it immediately started dripping once I had done so. Fingers crossed this works for me!

Had this FF now for about 4 years and we have exactly the same problem as everyone else..leaking from the bottom shelf of the freezer. I have simply been mopping the water up and then finally decided to search the internet for the problem and de-ice the fridge. The freezer will make crunching noises I think this is the sign to open it up and remove the ice build up. Its clearly a design fault with the unit. I have not yet contacted Hotpoint as I am not sure its worth the effort as the unit is… Read Full Review

Generally i've not had any problems with the running of the FF, i've not had any issues with its temp, or ice build up, however, this morning I noticed that the door for the freezer section is rusting!!!!, its started in the bottom corner next to the hinge and its spreading by the look of it, great! i've had it about 4/5 years. now can't decide whether to get rid of it or not, but what kind of FF door rusts! next one won;t be hotpoint or sister company indesit… Read Full Review

Written on: 19/04/2011

Same as nearly all the other postings. Owned for 4 years, had icing up problem after 2 years, engineer fitted new fan and other part only for it to go wrong again within 6 weeks. Next engineer removed fluff and ice from drain and ok for 18 months - probably the new parts had not been needed! Same problem has happened again - sitting waiting for engineer to come now. If I had seen this site before would have got my husband to take the back off first. Will try this another time. Shame… Read Full Review
