“Good value”

Written on: 23/05/2014 by dow67 (1 review written)

For the money a great buy IF you get a good one . There are lots of horror stories on the web about this pistol but also a lot of recommendations . After taking the advice of cleaning and replacing the grease out of the compression cylinder , checking for burring on the air inlet hole, and replacing the piston o ring I believe Ive got a nice pistol for £70 new . After 500 + pellets Ive found it to be accurate ,has a nice feel in the hand with decent power . Would I buy another, maybe, would I… Read Full Review

“Spot on little plinker”

Written on: 19/03/2014 by stukadogg (1 review written)

bought one early in the year as the cold weather made the Co2 guns a bit wimpy on power, this gun did the job, accurate, easy to use and looks great, great little plinker for target shooting and doesnt lose power if looked after, mine is still fine after a few months and very happy, Great first pistol for newbies and does what it says on the box! No point leaving bad reviews, you get what you pay for, if its not for you then pay a bit more for your toys. it is a good little plinker for back… Read Full Review

“Beeman P17 Excellent value for the money!”

Written on: 14/03/2014 by dwl1966 (5 reviews written)

I have had 2 P17s now - and never a problem with either of them. This latest one I had a friend do a tune job on it to raise the fps up to 400 (from the factory 370). It is a very good can killer now! For the money it is a great deal… Read Full Review

“Agree with other reviewers who wrote "cheap garbage"”

Written on: 23/08/2013 by Mercian1962 (1 review written)

I have had to strip, fix and re-assemble this pistol several times. I have used several spare O-rings. The pistol rarely fires more than 50 shots before requiring maintenance. I have since bought a Weirauch HW40, at just over twice the price of the Beeman, and I have never had a problem with the latter! The build quality of the Beeman simply does not approach that of the HW40… Read Full Review

“O-rings for Beeman P-17”

Written on: 08/07/2013 by UncleStan (1 review written)

I have read several reviews of the Beeman P-17 and found the o-rings rapidly wear until the pistol can no longer hold pressure. There are a dozen YouTube videos that address this issue. Anyway, in one of the videos, the person gave out the dimensions of the o-rings in case the owner of a P-17 would like to purchase them for a rebuild. Well, I wrote down what he said and found all three of the o-rings in this kit that can be purchased at Amazon dot com. This kit is named: Stalwart 75-2225… Read Full Review

“A fine informal target pistol for $50 or less”

Written on: 19/12/2012 by AReasonablePerson (1 review written)

The Beeman P17 is an excellent value for someone interested in a 4.5 mm (.177 cal) target air pistol. Before you buy, think about what it is that you intend to use an airgun for. If you wish to shoot 10 meter air pistol targets and stay in the black at very low cost, this pistol is definitely worth three times what it is sold for. If you want rapidly to make many tiny dents in a barn door from 5 meters or otherwise "plink around", then skip the P17 and buy the CO2 powered BB "action pistol"… Read Full Review

“This gun is a piece of junk! It is utter garbage!...”

Written on: 03/06/2010

This gun is a piece of junk! It is utter garbage! Though it feels extremely comfortable in hand and is excellently balanced - one of the sweetest pistols to hold - it just doesn't last. Mine was purchased brand new and lasted about four hours in total - about an hour of shooting on each of four different days. It was extremely powerful for a total of about three-and-a-half hours and then I started to notice a drop in power. Then on some shots it wouldn't fire the pellet at all - there would… Read Full Review

It does sound like an o-ring problem, perhaps chafing on a burr in the piston cylinder, which has been mentioned by reviewers on other sites. It might also relate to hammer slippage during cocking, though this seems less likely. There are a number of illustrated guides to maintenance available on the www.

Note also that the P17 carries a one year warranty. If you have a problem during the warranty period, it can be sent to Beeman for servicing as described in the owner manual. I had a pressure loss problem after 2000+ rounds and sent mine in for warranty repair. It came back within a month and worked well for another 2,000+ rounds. If it failed as quickly as yours did, it might also be worth contacting the vendor about replacement.

Though there are occasional quality control issues in manufacture, this is an excellent airgun when properly assembled and/or repaired under warranty. It is easily worth three times the $40-$50 it can be bought for in the US, and is the functional equivalent of the $200+ Beeman P3 of which it is a licensed copy. Mine likes Beeman coated wadcutters, which can be had for about $5 per 500 in the US. If you want to get in and stay in the black in informal 10m target shooting for short money, then buy one.

I was going to comment on the O-ring problem as well. But the previous commenter's tone is unfair to the reviewer. The end user shouldn't be expected to dissemble a brand new air gun and replace the O-rings. Especially considering the price point for this product, to dismiss the reviewer's lack of knowledge about this issue as a "noob" mistake is uncalled for.

For those interested in the O-ring overhaul, consult: http://anotherairgunblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/derricks-on-beeman-p17-overhaul-part-1.html

Written on: 23/07/2009 by Ludmilibomb (1 review written)

I bought the Beeman P17 last summer when I was bored and had a huge stack of old beer bottles I had to dispose of somehow. Though I had many options, the P17 stuck out to me as the weapon of choice.

I instantly fell in love with the gun and spent many hours shooting whatever I could find, and even bruised my hand from cocking it so much every day. It felt great in my (albeit oversized) hand, and shattered bottles like none other. The gun has a great deal of force and it's accurate enough to… Read Full Review

Was looking for a used P3 - no luck in finding one; so when my local CT had a P17 on sale at 1/2 price ($49.95) - decided to try it out.

After a couple of weeks of shooting it; VERY happy with it! Added some white-out to the sights for improved visibility; also a red-dot sight for improved accuracy.

Good power; accurate; nice trigger; seems to be well-made - and lots of places to go for info IF it ever needs to be fixed (as there DO seem to be a lot with problems out there)… Read Full Review

Marksman 2004/Beeman P17/Beeman 2006(when sold w/ red dot sight)
DO NOT BUY!!!
Junk! Garbage! Trash!
Now don ' t get me wrong,. I ' m not one of those grumpy old men who thinks that everything is junk. There are still some real airgun values out there such as the Crosman 1377 and 2240. However, the Marksman 2004 also known as the Beeman P17 or the Beeman 2006 is a junk gun that works for about 10 minutes then starts leaking air from various places. How do I know? I tried several of them from… Read Full Review

Jtm's Response to airgunguy's Review

Written on: 11/11/2009

With all due respect, I have seen this same review on at least three other air gun Web Sites. As an owner of a P 17 for at least three years now with hundreds if not thousands of shots taken ... I also own a P1, a Crosman 2300S, and a HW 75 ... the gun is superb. It seems to me this reviewer is just plain unlucky. Or has some silly axe to grind. Ignore him. For the best less than $50 you will ever spend on a .177 single-shot, highest build quality air pistol, buy the P17. If you want perfection, buy a P1. JTM

Boris's Response to airgunguy's Review

Written on: 23/11/2009

I have had 4 of these so far and 2 of the Weihrauch versions. No real difference has shown itself over the years. Perhaps this is because my local gunsmith told me to withdraw the piston (easy - just one allen screw) and replace the piston O ring, lubricating it with a tiny amount of light moly grease in the piston groove.

I note now that the latest ones from China show traces of moly on the piston.

Written on: 18/07/2008 by cyclopse (1 review written)

The Beeman P17 is exactly the same gun as the 2004e I think just a different number stamped on it, maybe for a different market. Recently I have used multi shot C02 pistols, Walther cp99, Crosman 357 with 8 or 10 shot clips in them but I bought this Beeman to keep in my fishing box to see off Rats at close quarters. Obviously the Rats must know I have a new gun so they have kept away but firing at targets and cans in my back garden there is no doubt in my mind that it is more powerfull and… Read Full Review
