    Ate here as some friends were vegan and since we had recently come to Cardiff they wanted to visit a vegan friendly restaurant and this is what came up and it seemed trendy. As promising as it was, it did not deliver food wise. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but the table service was cold and rushed and we didn't feel welcome at all. The food portions were ok, but I must admit I struggled to get through mine, as I found the food flavourless and it seemed to me like the chefs overthought the recipes for pretty much everything I tasted. My friends weren't that impressed either, there were 4 of us. It all sounded good on the menu but I must say I was dissappointed at what arrived in my plate. It's like they're more preoccupied with looking trendy and cooking different world foods than actually making something that's pleasant to the taste. I also wasn't very impressed with the state of the ceiling and walls, didn't give the impression of a very hygienic place (even the candle holders were greasy).
    Definitely not going back :(

    How refreshing to see limited menus where you know the food is chosen carefully and cooked with dedication. I have been regularly since it opened and can't praise it too highly. It deserves to be a great success. Not for you if you want swanky surroundings, menus five miles long, and food from caterers' tins.

    Excellent food and the staff are all very friendly. Go try them! It's delicious!

    The Canteen on Clifton Street, Cardiff has just opened, and on a recommendation I tried it last Saturday. The food was refreshingly good; so good I will definitely be back. It is also cheap, or other restaurants are overpriced. I went with a vegan and a meat eater (I'm a veggie) and we all had a choice of food. Well the vegan had one choice only (one more than normal) but loved it! There has only been one good choice of veggie food in Cardiff, and now there is another. We will be back.
