I tried Champix about a year ago, got to two and a half weeks of being on it and lost all desire to smoke but I felt so ill from the tablets, once I stopped them at week 3 I found myself wanting to smoke again within a few days of stopping which I was really disappointed about. I should have done some research about the type of foods you should eat when taking the tablets to take away that awful sick feeling. I am on my second day of trying these tablets again with a fridge full of fruit and yogurt, so far I have not felt ill, fingers crossed this time it will happen for good! Thanks to everyone for posting on here, it really helps people like me that need a few hints and tips on how to best make these tablets work.

My husband is on epilepsy medicine for the rest of his life and he is not permitted to drive now. In my view it is better for him to smoke than take a drug that is going to kill him anyway. I would read up on the other's experience and take it to heart.

I'm having some problems taking Champix. I'm on week 5 and everyday is an exhausting battle to hold myself together. I have NO energy...I could sleep all day long. I am angry all the time. I feel like I am full of rage and might explode at any minute. I haven't become violent, but I believe that is b.c I have been able to calm myself down. I'm snapping at everyone, suffering from anxiety and sad all the time. I've gained 10 lbs with no real change in my diet and no matter how hard I try, it will not come off. Is that b.c of the pills? I was having crazy dreams the first couple weeks, but they seem to have stopped. It's been almost 2 weeks since I smoked (I had a relapse for a few days, smoking 2 cigarettes a day) and I don't really have any cravings...and that's awesome, but I'm wondering if it's worth it. I feel awful. I'm not even close to the person I usually am. I think I'll finish off this weeks pills and stop them. For me, they had a serious effect on my mental health. I know friends that had no problems at all. I think if you take it, you need to keep an eye out for any kind of mental issues, and make sure you have someone close to you to watch for them too. Good luck with whatever you decide and try to stay sane.

I am feeling exactly the same. The rage is scaring me. I have become so angry and saying hurtful things to my children and husband they are no longer talking to me. I can sleep all day get up and have something to eat and then sleep again. When I am not asleep I am sitting in a daze feeling ashamed and embarrassed about the anger and rage attacks. I am also forgetful, last night someone asked me my name and I had to think about it, they laughed and said "did you just forget your own name". I have thrown the remaining tablets in the bin this morning, I hope it doesn't take too long to get out of my system..

I am currently on week 3 of Champix and smoked my last cigarette on day 10. Brilliant you would think but you have to listen to your body when it comes to doseage. 2 days into my 2nd week, having gone up to 1mg twice a day, I couldn't move off the couch, I felt like my brain had shut down. I didn't even have the motivation to hold a conversation. I was so close to flushing the tablets down the toilet. Instead I decided to lower the doseage and that evening I took 3/4 of a tablet and I am now back to 0.5mg twice a day. I am a 36 year old female and I only weigh 7 stone. A colleague at work is a 50 year old male who weighs around 18 stone and is prescribed the same dose as me? Fortunately reducing my dose to a more tolerable level has meant I can stay on the treatment and my cravings have not increased. I have also had my share of side effects, mild tinnitus, bouts of endless sneezing and nausea after taking the tablet one morning on an empty stomach. My advice, persevere with it, it will be over in a few weeks - smoking related diseases can be with you for life!

This would be my second time on champix, tried them last year and they did work but didnt run the whole three months and at the time found it hard to give up the cravings when having drank a few alcoholic bevvies at the weekend and just kept going back to smoking at the weekends and missing taking the champix for a day or two so in the end relaised I was not ready to quit smoking. This year I really want to quit so have tried them again I am not a heavy smoker more a social smoker so find stopping easy as soon as I start the pills after a few days, the thing is I did not intend to drink on them this time so to allow myself time to adjust to not smoking in a social situation but it just so happened I had a few last weekend and now wish i didnt, but not because I smoked coz I didnt but because I blackouted for five hours whilst still being physically able and according to my husband seemed fine and didnt appear any different just a bit tipsey but I blackouted to the point I dont remember a god damn thing and apparently we went on a bus to another part of town went to two pubs went and saw friends, and had a meal and I honestly dont remember anything of it, I am forty years old have always had a drink and can hold my own and can drink a far bit and i have blacked out before whilst remaining conscious but not for over five hours, anyway since the morning after I have felt very strange to the point I have had to stop taking champix I was only taking one a day not two as well and was only on day 14 but I have never felt so ill, I still have a migraine which wont budge, never had them before in my life, I am constantly fatigued and have blurred vision and feel like sleeping all the time, moody but not depressed, so i have stopped taking them as the insomina is also doing my head in, feel better alredy. the last time I took them I had no side effects apart from the nausea and I just think that drinking too much on them at the weekend has had adverse affect on my brain and caused the side effects, the headache, migraine still there and wont budge, CHAMPIX DO WORK AND THEY ARE A FIX BUT BE CAREFUL MIXING THEM ON LARGE AMOUNTS OF ALCOHOL, THE BRAIN DOESNT LIKE IT. GOOD LUCK

I had quit 2 times on champix, the first time, after 6 weeks I thought I would never smoke again!!, but as I stopped taking the pills, with in 3 days my craving came back, strong as ever! , I would recommend staying on champix for at least 3 months, then going down to 1/2 dose for a week... If you drink when you are taking champix, look out, expect black outs, & having no off switch. Best not to drink when on champix.,, this is a chemical that changes the way our/your brain works, with no long term studies, if you can quit smoking with it great, but I would not take champix more than 2 quoting times. Like all neurological drugs, it will effect how a brain works long term.. Pryak phd.

Don't take the pills on an empty stomach, line your stomach with a glass of milk and take tablet with a full glass of water. Helped me loads.

If I was you, I would stop taking them. I have experienced side effects but nothing like you describe. I have halved the dosage in week 6 as I was not sleeping enough and could not stay at home for the rest of the course. After 1 week, I sleep better and do not seem to have constant vivid dreams. I will be pleased when the course is finished and am considering cutting the dosage in half again for the last 4 weeks. My cravings have not come back but I would not recommend this drug to others as the side effects can be really severe.

Hi wondering if any one else out there this far through with there CHAMPIX on day 15 just threw my smokes away as did not fancy them so that was a good thing. I am on week 7 will be 4 weeks since I have actually had a smoke on the 1ST feb which is brilliant. That in itself is good, still get the occasional craving though and know that is not correct. My worse problem is I am still having sleeping issues, I am in bed every night by 10.30 pm, lights out, still toss and turn, and have noticed that my behavior is not acceptable, i get grumpy at my grand-kids, never done that before, am very picky, everything has to be perfect, just so quick to temper where I have never been before. Am thinking of switching over to the nicorette chewies, cannot keep going like this, so any one else this far through and having these issues I would gladly like some feedback on this topic.

Hi, I stopped smoking on 14th Feb 2013 while using Champix. I have had some side effects and I have now stopped taking the pills. I wanted to say that please whatever you do, don't start introducing nicotine back into your system - you don't need it as your body will already be free of any remaining nicotine. If you need some extra help try Alan Carr's The Easy Way to Stop Smoking to help keep you going. Good luck

Hi, bad moods and temper happened to me when I gave up without Champix before. Although, I reacted badly to my daughter being rude, I overreacted and we are no longer speaking. I have been on Champix for 6 weeks and stopped smoking on day 9. It's great that there are no cravings but I am going to try just taking the morning pill for a few days to see if my sleeping improves. It would be great to not have to drive to work but that's not an option. I do not think that are nicotine replacements are the answer but maybe normal chewing gum could relieve the stress. All the nicotine should be out of your system and using other nicotine items might get you back onto it. You have already shown that you have tremendous will power. Perhaps that's all you need now?

First day of taking Champix and I decided to stop smoking as well, I didn't want to wait until the second week. I had attended a stop smoking group the day before. One of the group had advanced stage COPD which is irreversible and to be honest this scared me; to hear them coughing so much and kept thinking 'What if have an irreversible condition soon ?' At group, I was advised on NRT and on Champix; I had past experience with NRT and believed the products prolonged addiction. I have stopped smoking before 'Cold Turkey' but I didn't stay stopped for long. So this first day, not only have I gone all day without craving for a fix of nicotine, but when I feel a little daily stress, it is almost as if it is clouded over and I forget it very quickly. The drug is supposed to coat the receptors which absorb the nicotine and I feel that it is working for me, although it is early day's for me. I am a little bit dubious about Champix, as there will come a time when I will have to face cravings when I'm not on the drug anymore; hopefully by then my behavioural habits with nicotine will have been forgotten.

i was prescribed champix 0.5mg by my pharmacy to stop smoking. i tried nicorette patches, gums, lozenges, nasal spray, i mist mouth spray, inhilaters i have failed all as i was addicted to them all because all of these had nicotine in it. so finally as a last resort i was given champix i only had it for 2 days. i suffered some horrible side effects , i had chest pains, abdominal pains, heart burns basicly pain everywhere in my body i had problems going to toilet too . i had felt very uneasy and i felt im gonna die any moment feeling light headed, feeling faint. and the wrost one was i had thoughts of suicide i was very depressed angry and aggresive to everyone in my house i did not feel like going out at all. i kept feeling cold aswell. these are some of them i can remember while i was on champix. so i belive this champix is not for those who suffer from mediacal problems. i would not recommend this to everyone. pfizer really needs to do something about these unwanted side effects. champix is very powerfull drug yes it did take away my cravings away. i wish i continued but not any more after these awfull side effects.

I have been smoke free for over three months. Cravings are rare and the desire to smoke is mostly gone. I am 31 years old and had been smoking for 16 years. I quit on day 8. The drug is a very effective way to quit smoking however it didn't come without a few side effects. Three days into it I had a mildly alarming psychotic episode. I felt absolutely wired for several hours and could hardly concentrate at work. My appetite completely left me and so did my ability to socialize, which was concerning since I'm normally very social. That eventually dissipated but after a week of being on the drug I noticed that I always felt like I was on 2 espressos. From the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep I had a mild buzz. That eventually dissipated as well and from then on my sleep was not as great as it normally was. Usually I'm a sound sleeper but this drug kept me from getting a good sleep. I found I woke up more often than I ever did before. I stopped taking the drug 6 weeks into the treatment since I just kept forgetting to take it so I figured I would just stop. That was two months ago and with time my sleeps have been getting better and better. It's almost as if the drug takes a while to work its way out of your system but in the end I was happy to lose the side effects since reading some people's reviews of the drug made me a bit hessitant. Bottom line, it will help you quit smoking. Just pay attention to your mind and quit taking it if it affects you adversely. Good luck!

On week 10 on champix stopped smoking on day 8 found it hard having been a heavy smoker for 40 years no nausea some headaches. At week 8 started to feel really angry thought at first it was lack of nicotine then realised i had none in my body. I cut down to 1 tablet a day to see if it made a difference but no still had the anger build up plus waking up with nightmares not a nice feeling at all frightened me as i have read the bad stories about these tablets. I have not had a tablet now for three days but so far have not had a smoke though i want one and have always wanted one from when i first started taking them so is it will power that is stopping me from lighting one up. Has anyone else had this happen to them i would love to know.

Hi, I quit on the 29th june also on champix. I have been doing fantastic so far,10th week also! I smoked for 25 yrs,but never a pk a day. 15 a day at its best.
I have quit taking champix 10 days short of finishing the 3 months as I wanted to see if I was going to have side effects from the tablets? It's been a week and no side affects.never got angry or bad thoughts, just found it hard to adopt new habits after not practicing the old ones.
We are very close in dates which is what made me write this comment.i am surrounded by friends and family members that still smoke including my husband, which adds to this challenge but I'm happy with my choice to quit and I'm intending on sticking with it.I had fun with cigarettes and socially drinking but have waved bye bye to both and say hello instead to healthier foods, excersize and slowing the aging process by looking after myself a bit better.
I reward myself with$50 a week savings and have my nails professionally done every fortnight, which is a good feeler insentiive.
I haven't had any support from anyone in particular besides the quit app in the app store, which is all your own input.Everyone around me including some that silently wishi would start smoking again, which I won't !
Would love a pen pal(if you're interested ,@bigpond.net.au)
If not, good luck to you and your goals, keep at it :)
Cheers
Linda

I hope this reassures you some what. I was also a little hestitant about the emotional side effects before I started taking Champix as I have also suffered from depression in the past. While I have been feeling a little down (since my quit date), it seems pretty obvoius to me that it is just my mind trying to come to terms with not being a smoker anymore. Many of us smokers have had the habit for so long that is has become a part of our identity and our security blanket when we are happy, sad, bored etc. So it's only natural for a feeling of loss or i suppose a small amount of greiving to happen. All my usual behaviours have had to change, for example not breaking the day down into hourly segments between cigarettes or not rewarding myself for doing housework with a smoke break. But this is over-ridden by the extreme pride I am feeling for myself for actually having the willpower and strength of character ( something I felt I was lacking due to my nicotine addiction) to quit. I agree there are a few other side effect such as slight nausea and vivid dreams, but these too are a small sacrifice to endure to acheive the ultimate goal. Otherwise the cravings are completely gone and I am even able to hang around with smokers without even feeling tempted! Good luck, try it, you know your own mind, so just stop the tablets if you feel you are losing control.

I am on day 13 at the moment and I am experiencing sensitive gums. Has anybody else experienced this side effect? This product is truly amazing :) I feel sick just thinking about having a smoke. The only other thing I am worried about taking Champix is the weight gain. I am already morbidly obese and I am worried that I will gain a lot of weight :(
Written on: 31/05/2012
I was worried about the weight gain too but i'm making a conscious effort to eat loads of fruit and salad. it is hard tho cos when you have a craving you want something sweet! My doc told me, forget the weight gain, that can be lost once the cigs have gone. Good luck x

I've been on champix now for 4 weeks . I quit on day 8 it was really effortless. Ive now Not smoked for 28 days. But I'm paying the price I've started to feel very low ,confused and aggressive So I've been advised to stop taking it but even tho I feel like this it still worked just be aware of any Changes In mood and you will do fine. At least I stopped That's the main thing . Good Luck

Hi there, I've been smoking for 6 years and tried everything else to stop, Im currently on week 2 of Champix and it's doing it's job just fine. However i have various side affects: Headaches Strange dreams Lack of sleep ( sleep for 10 minute interval's the awaken for 2 hours!) Horrid headaches And worst of all the Nausea & loose stools. Horrible side affects, but as a student nurse i take a medical view Nausea you always get with Cancers and Chemo usually causes this also Pain cancer pain is scaled at one of the highest most chronic pain's. Headaches: COPD patient's usually suffer headaches due to lack of oxygen getting to the brain. I understand everyone (including me) knows the risks of smoking, how could we not? But i want to fight bk against it before my body takes the toll of smoking to much! Good luck all xx

Hi , Please continue smoking as usual . You will automatically reduce it after about 30-40 days of taking champix. This is a wonderful tablet which worked on me as well . i have been smoking for past 25 years but with the help of champix i could manage to quit it . For me there was negligible side effects. if you want to call me.

That's I have been reading down through the reviews to look for someone who was somewhat handling champix the same as me. I have smoked to since I was a teenager & now in my later 50's so it's been more than 1/2 my life. I am on day 24 & have had 3-4 cigarettes a day & wondered if I could have enough will power to do a full day without one. I can manage the side effects from the champix & wonder now if some of my side effects are acturally from the withdraw from less cigarettes. I was around a pack a day & did find I was short of breath, lots of good reasons for quitting way more than reasons to continue to smoke. Hope I can finally say I am a nonsmoker soon & never in this lifetime want to take up this BAD HABIT again. If Chamoix can work for me I would be so happy!
