They make their own rules, despite what has been agreed in your policy and then hide behind red tape and dishonesty. Strongly advise not to use.

written by Daviddancing on 10/11/2022

My car failed an mot last December so I didn't renew my insurance with eco insurance a year later I got another car got a quote from eco then went on comparison sit and got aa quote £300 cheaper that's when it all went wrong I had been with eco for years I contacted eco for my ncd they said they will send it by email which never came I had to contact them 5 days on trot they said they sent it every time I gave permission to eco to speak to aa to pass them no claims discount but both times they refused now I had two days left before aa cancelled because of no proof of no claims discount the lady from aa then had a good idea of contacting the Underwriter who quickly gave them the no claims discount. It was like they didn't want to pass the information on 5 days of phone calls and promises of e-mail that never comes would never use them again

“Made me pay £160 because they wouldn't insure my new car”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kristianyates on 19/03/2020

My car was written off after the floods in Yorkshire last year. Co-op Eco Insurance paid out on the claim no problem, and everything was handled very well. However... Co-op eco insurance only has ONE underwriter, and they decided they wouldn't insure my new car. I was forced to take out another policy with a good insurer, and when I called to cancel the policy, I was told that because no-one else was involved, the floods were my fault! (I also control the wind, fire, and other natural elements). As river's overflowing were MY fault and they paid out, they are now forcing me to pay the remaining time left on the policy. They were happy to move the policy to another car they would insure, but because they wouldn't insure my new car, they're making me pay. I would highly recommend them when things are going good, but we all buy car insurance for the times when things are going bad - that's where they are pathetic. Do not put yourself through it because a meerkat told you too. Co-op Eco Insurance will cost you. Not recommended at all, and very disappointed.

“Discusting cancellation policy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AmyOakley on 30/11/2016

I had a policy with co op eco car insurance, their quote was the cheapest in Nov 2015. I never agreed to them automatically renewing, however on the 12th Nov 2016 I received an email stating that my policy would automatically renew. I didn't get this email until the 25th Nov (having problems with internet). I called them today (weds 30th) and told them that I had found a better and cheaper policy and that I didn't know they would automatically renew. The woman on the phone was very unhelpful. She stated that £57.82 had been taken from my bank yesterday, and that from 13-29th Nov had used £39's worth of cover. She then went on to say that there was a £50 cancellation fee, meaning that I had £31 to pay. Also, at the beginning of 2016, I got a new car and had to pay a £25 change over fee and then £25 for 'admin'. Needless to say I was very unhappy with this and couldn't have ended the phone all quicker. Do not go with this company! I cannot say one good thing about them!

“Misleading and underhanded!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Aubrey270 on 26/05/2016

Had car policy with ibuyeco for 1 year. cancelled policy when I sold the car. 4 years later receive a letter from company I've never heard of telling me my personal accident cover cost has increased. On querying I'm told it was taken out as an "extra" to car insurance, a pre-ticked box that I needed to untick if I didn't want it. Wasn't cancelled automatically when car insurance was cancelled. When I've asked what they'll do about it the answer is nothing. Should have checked bank statements! True, but really annoying! I feel it's dishonest and bad practice. Surely you should receive confirmation of things you've "agreed" to?

“I BUY ECO ARE DISHONEST”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rene27 on 29/06/2015

I am an honest guy, I work hard, I pay my bills and I like to help people where I can. I'm not the type of guy that whines or moans, except today where I know I have been wronged by I Buy Eco. I hope my small voice on the web will be heard by anyone wondering whether I Buy Eco products are worth a look at (they're not). I had house insurance with I Buy Eco and today I just got off the phone with Jodie the supervisor at I buy Eco who informed me that I owed them money and that my policy had been cancelled. Despite never being phoned, not even having a phone call off them or any other form of communication other than a letter saying my policy was cancelled. Jodie told me I could pay for a new policy but it would be with their other 'budget' company and not them. She also told me that I would have to pay £54 or else I would face bad credit ratings and a credit agency....so I begrudgingly paid up. A few months ago I asked an advisor from I buy Eco to come and see my roof as it was leaking and no one ever came, despite numerous calls to them they never bothered with me. Perhaps I should have been tougher, but I wasn't and I now realise what a waste of my money and time this company has been. I doubt they are even eco friendly and suspect they just abuse customers financially and don't care about service. This is a company that misrepresents itself, does not deliver any form of protection to its customers and is a bully. it is not environmentally friendly, rather it will happily drain you emotionally and dishonestly take money from you. I am disgusted at the way I have been treated by them and I STRONGLY advise none to take any policy for any product with I buy eco.

“DO NOT USE THEM!! 4 Months AFTER taking the policy out...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MrMisters on 29/09/2014

DO NOT USE THEM!! 4 Months AFTER taking the policy out they sent me a letter saying they are cancelling, NO explanation at all, I called to find out why & all I got was waffle about the underwriters being unhappy about the letter I supplied from my employer to prove 2 years no claims on my company car, the same letter that was accepted at the outset. THEN they want a cancellation fee even though they are the ones cancelling !!! Stay well clear of this shower.

“worried”

written by fedix on 23/02/2014

I am very worried that up to now I have not received any document with regards to the car insurance that I took and first premium has already been deducted from my account. I have a good mind of not allowing the bank for further deductions if I dont receive policy documents by tomorrow.

“Changing vehicle or automatic renewal Car Insurance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Alan-Glasgow on 10/07/2013

Quite simply "They rip you off", I had used them for 12 months (£280 per annum), automatic renewal came in (£320), let it go as I was selling the car in the next few weeks, changed car for a lower category insurance group, went on to get cover, 30% hike(£420), to save cancelation charges I continued to pay increased premium. 7 months later decided to change the car again to an even lower insurance group and they wanted to increase the premium by a further 50% (£652) They were quite ignorant, dismissive and when I queried the vast increases they said and I quote" You knew what you were getting into when you came to us" ehh !! sorry I would admit to being too trusting. Now cancelled and had to pay £123 to get out Got full comp and slightly better all round cover on the "Compare the meerkat" fella, Price £207, Please be warned !! Not Good to deal with. and Certainly don't trust them to be loyal to you in any shape or form,

“Completely and utterly useless”

★☆☆☆☆

written by arachnae on 13/05/2013

I'll sum this up fairly briefly for those who don't want to read a wall of text. I was in an accident in April 2010, a guy pulled across me on a roundabout into a tight gap and didn't make it. These things happen. Of course his insurance company disputed liability so I had to put it through my own, Ibuyeco. At first I was pretty on the ball with them, trying to find out if there were any updates, I probably rang them once a month for the first 6 months and each time they were "waiting on a response from the third party insurer" and would "send another email to them". Okay fair enough, I now understand that they cannot make the third party insurer respond to them, they can only keep asking. Long story short, it was 2 years and 9 months before this claim was settled in my favour. At no point after the initial accident did ibuyeco contact me to give me an update on the situation, I always had to go to them. More often than not they made me call the underwriter of my policy directly to actually get any useful information. So, finally my claim is settled. I only knew about this because I decided to call them up to find out, which by the way made me go through three different departments who inevitably told me to call the underwriter. Now I ask the simple question of how do I get back my lost excess and no claims bonus? They tell me that they do not normally send out proof of no claims after 2 years, so after an argument about how it took longer than 2 years to sort my claim they agree to send out a custom letter for proof. They also tell me because I didn't have motor legal protection I have to pursue the third party insurer for it directly. Fair enough, but who is it? They don't know who it is and tell me my underwriter will know. I call my underwriter and they won't tell me. They refer me to a letter I "may" have received 3 years ago. I opened a case with the FOS. It is now almost 8 weeks since this happened and I still have not received my proof of no claims, or anything that resembles communication of who the third party is aside from a couple of phone calls a few days after my complaint which led nowhere. I'm certain that the job of a broker is to deal with these things for me and make my life easier. I feel that I have been doing their job for them and paying them for the privilege.

Gtom20's Response to arachnae's Review

Written on: 15/05/2015

I am having the exact same problem but instead of Persuing the third party they have closed my case and put a fault claim on the insurance. Data base which has now increased my premiums even though I had cctv footage of the accident and written witness statements clearly stating that the third part was at fault I am now in contact with a solicitor to sue for compensation

“I Buy Eco Car Insurance review”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AmyLouise3 on 08/05/2013

I bought car insurance from IBuyEco in 2010, I was given 6 months free life insurance which at 18 I did not need. 6 months later I received a letter which I had to sign and send back to them to say I did not want to start paying for the life insurance and I assumed that would be that. In December 2010, 9 months in to my contract, I received a letter saying my car insurance had been voided and cancelled due to insufficient funds being in my account. When I checked my statement I had enough funds to pay for the whole year! I rang the bank and they said that this company hadn't even tried to take money out of my account. I was stuck with no car insurance and a hefty £300 to pay for cancellation fees (which wasn't my fault.) Anyway I thought that was the end of it until I looked at my bank statement and they had been taking £4.00 out of my account every month and sometimes even twice a month. I called the bank and put in a cancellation for the transaction. I was refunded some of my money from the bank. Now this was 3 years ago, to this day I am still having £4.00 a month taken out of my account! Even though I have called them, wrote letters, complained to the financial ombudsman, cancelled the card transaction! Do not go with this company. I have lost a lot of money over the last 3 years and wouldn't want it to happen to anybody else.

“Charged me for not signing renewal but charged me to...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/10/2012

I was sent a letter from IBUYECO saying I was being fined £15 for not signing the automatic renewal policy documents and returning it to them. So I phoned them to find out why I was being charged for not signing the documents even though they had automatically renewed my policy anyway. They told me that I must pay them the charge for not signing the renewal documents. I explained that I had never received any renewal documents, in which the rude customer service lady insisted they had sent to me. I asked if they sent out a reminder about the documents before the charge is made, she said no. I asked if they sent out an email to customers, she said no. So I asked if there is a possibility that on rare occasions, either the documents are not sent by them or the royal mail may have lost the documents. She insisted that this could never happen. So I asked if they had proof they had posted them, she could not provide proof as the documents were sent second class only. So I said I wanted to cancel my policy, the lady said I had to pay a £28 cancellation charge for the new premium…. (on a £100 policy). I asked why I would have to pay for a cancellation charge for a policy I had not signed for; she said that the policy was automatically renewed. So I asked why was I being charged for not signing the documents to renew the policy??......as you can see I was going round in circles….and was not very happy. After a long telephone call and speaking with the manager they could not explain this process, but said when the £15 charge is taken from account (as it was too late to stop the charge being taken from my account and if I stopped it, it would incure more charges) would be automatically paid back to me, this never happened and I ended up paying both the £28 cancellation charge and £15. Stay away from this company they are ripping people off and have very high cancellation fees in the small print.

I insured with Eco Insurance through Co-operative. After trying to take an additional £272 for saying I had failed to provide proof of my 9 years no claims - which I had done on 3 occasions to both their email addresses - i then received a letter saying that they were taking £66.23 in two days time, but they had already withdrawn the money from my account. They did this because they said that I was at fault for my last accident in which my car was written off in December. The other driver had admitted full blame to me and the police at the crash site and his insurers paid me out my excess which I lost in the claim, plus a goodwill gesture of a further £500. If that isn't admitting blame what is? This was done in February 2013 and yet Eco took my money now on March 13th saying that "their database" showed that I was the driver at fault. Eco gave me no warning of what they were doing and did not give me the chance to prove that they were wrong, but simply took my money because they wanted it. They are straight-up thieves and I intend to do everything I can to expose them. They don't have ANY RIGHT with what they have done to me, but they have indeed done it. Somebody help expose them as the scamming thieves that they are. When I called them the representative on the phone refused to escalate the call and eventually just hung up on me.

“GANGSTERS, CROOKS &THEIVES”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/09/2012

WARNING DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I paid the first year in full only to find that the contract included renewal clauses not mentioned at point of sale. At the end of year one they tripled the premium and tried to take it from my account without my permission. I contacted them to tell them I would not be renewing unless they gave me a sensible quote. They claimed there was an outstanding claim which there wasn't. I gave them time to get back to me with a revised quote, which they didn't and haven't. The are now charging me £145 cancellation charges, threatening to take me to court and to destroy my credit rating!!!!

“Rude Customer Service and watch out for hidden...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by irishlumberjack on 11/09/2012

The Title really says it all, but my experience with Ibuyeco started when they offered the least expensive renewal on my auto insurance, so I switched companies in the hope of saving £30. I wish I didn't bother. Ibuyeco must have the rudest customer service agents that I have ever experienced. It's as if they are trying to deliberately be rude in order to get you off the line. As I have almost 10 years of no-claims, I wasn't thinking about customer service when I purchased my policy, but believe me, you may in the future and you will regret it. Whether it's a change of circumstances, adding another driver, making a claim (which I never have) or finding out about your renewal, you are probably going to have to speak to someone at some point and Ibuyeco are the absolute worst!! Another tip, take a very long and careful look at your policy documents when they arrive and search for hidden charges that were not there when you signed up online. You will be glad you did and will find out as I have that it's better to go with a more reputable company for a few pounds more.

“Rubbish rip offs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/08/2012

This insurance company is ridiculous, my partner took out insurance in 2011, they automatically renewed in 2012 without sending him any paper work and he hadn't opted to renew automatically, he had got his insurance via a cheaper alternative, rang I BUY ECO who refunded minus a fee, then they sent debt collectors out and stuff stating they refunded it twice as my bank had got involved, checked bank statements and they had refunded the amount less fees which was fine, then when my bank intervened they must have seen they had already refunded some and refunded the fees to make it up to the original amount he had paid, however they claim that they have refunded all of it twice, I complained sending them evidence but they insisted they had refunded twice the full amount so I have had to go to the financial ombudsmen. they are still insisting they're in the right. The complaints lady is no help as she is only asking the refund dept whats happened and going on their say so, I hope it goes to court now as all the bank statements prove is that they have refunded me once and I think a court will laugh it out, I have told them I will pay the fee back which is what they have refunded me in error (40.53), but they wont take it and are insisting on him paying £467.00 which is the original car insurance.
