There are some very good features and the camera is decent in term of picture quality and user interface. However if the camera is too close to an object you wont see anything This is also a good phone for someone who has to swap SIM cards alot as the SIM, memory and battery are all separated from the flip cover in the bottom of the phone. I've had my K850i for over two years now. In the last 6 months of owning it, the phone would just go blank, vibrate and restart itself maybe twice a day. When it does this, it wipes my SIM card, memory card and all the phone memory. I've updated the firmware 3 times to try and solve this, but its no use. I'm using it as a backup phone right now, because my other Ericsson C905 (the next model after the K850i) suffered speaker failure. Two ericssons in a row being faulty. That just poor. I'm... Sack of cack, had 4 software upgrades, 2 new keypads & screens. Even the guy from the T Mob. shop said it had been a total disaster since its launch. My 2 sons also had k850i's & suffered similar problems.
Mine was repaired 2 months ago & now has a mind of its own, again sending random text messages.AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

I would like to point out, i had this phone on Orange and O2, and with both Networks i had PERFECT signal.
Where do i start? compared to new phones on the market right now, this Sony lacks many features such as decent Java games, it does come with some but all 60 second DEMOS. The camera, for a May 2008 phone is SUPERB. The quality is brilliant and the zoom is even more amazing. Also the buttons are very small but very stylish however the phone is rather chunky. I don't usually write complaining reviews but boy, the Sony Ericsson K850i is a bad phone.
I'm on my 4th handset in just over a year. Every time, it started switching itself off at random and eventually, switches off and never comes back on again. Every time, I went onto the Sony Ericsson website for the suggested software upgrade which was supposed to fix the problem but it never did.
I'm a total text addict and have found the buttons very hard on the thumbs- I've now even got hard skin on...

Had this Sony Ericsson K850i phone a year and really do not like it. It keeps trying to send texts to the first person in my address book. It occassionally freezes. Don't think the camera isgreat (which was one of the main reasons I got it for) and the MP 3 player ( although sound is good I find really fiddly).
ALso fing the key board too small.

i will never ever recommend the Sony Ericsson K850i to anybody. sure it has some good functions, my camera works well for me. but overall it sucks really bad. my phone keeps freezing for no whatsoever reason and that keybad lights and camera lights remain on which is such a waste of battery! my speaker has also broken down twice in 7 months when i don't even use it often. such a lousy phone. i have lost confidence in SE products. will never recommend it to anybody! I have had this Sony Ericsson K850i phone for 15 months and have loved this phone, the use to navigate to all the features on this phone is very easy a 5 year old could do it! I got this phone for the camera but was pleased with the mp3 player and video functions on the phone. The memory card slot is easy to get to without removing the battery so no need to turn off the phone.
It has only just started to loose battery life a bit quicker lately but what do you accept for a phone of this age...

where do i start, i got my Sony Ericsson k850i April 2008, and since then this is my second phone. am currently still on the contract with o2. i had my first k850i sent away for repair twice, but the 3rd time i was told to ask for a new one. since then today it has started to act up now this is my second phone and ive read most of the reviews on this website and i agree someone has to do something about this most people that have this phone are on contract and paying about 40 pound a month.... I love this Sony Ericsson K850i phone (well when I first got it i did!) It has a really great quality camera, its easy to use and has everything that you would want on a phone
I have had quite a few problems with my K850i, they started with my media files and phone numbers being randomly deleted or disappearing, turns out I had to perform about 3/4 software updates to correct this.
The most recent problems I have are that my phone either freezes, vibrates and then turns itself off or resets...

I have had all of the problems listed above! I got my first K850i in June 08. The speaker died within 2 weeks and could not be repaired so the phone was replaced. Since then I've had the screen, the software, and the fascia all replaced - basically the entire phone - and it still doesn't work! it crashes and constantly needs rebooting, the screen freezes and it needs rebooting, the 'end call' button freezes and needs rebooting, the sim card won't...

I have now had the Sony Ericsson K850i for over a year and still very impressed with it. It is slightly heavier and chunkier than most phones out today but with that I have found its less likely to get damaged or for the screen to break when its dropped. Believe me, this phone has had alot drops but the screen has stayed unbroken and unscratched.

Well there are alot of good features to this Sony Ericsson K850i phone if you want to use it for music, photos & videos thingy but if u want to use it as a mobile phone itself. I would say get a Nokia 1100 with a touch light. All in all I'd give this phone a 7/10 .. decent rating because I was 1 amongst the first few customers to buy this phone in India and I'm very used to the features I like in the phone starting with semi touch screen. I've had this phone for 8 months and I'm already on my third replacement. Both times I had to replace it because it decides not to turn on, except for the keypad and the only way to tunr it off is to take the battery out. Now the keypad is getting temperamental. I loved this phone and although it is my 2nd phone in 8 months, the 1st phone was lost after 2 months? Anyhows while searching the WAP for cinema listings my phone went off (but keypad stayed lit) which it has done on about 5 occasions while either listening to music or watching a video but normally comes back on after about 10 seconds, this time the phone did no come back on (but stayed lit) i had to remove battery which didn't sort out problem, and now when charging the on/off button was... The Sony Ericsson K850i is a really good phone, have been using from past 7 months, not even battery problem, very bright screen, a very perfect camera, very user friendly. Just 1 problem that the backside glossy interface attracts fingerprints, but you can easily wipe it out.. A fabulous multimedia phone packed with some Great and fantastic features.. and worth money. My phone had the freezing problem for a while. Occasionally, it would shut itself off. Various times the touchscreen would not work. Now, some of the leads on the keypad stay on even when the phone is shut down and it drains the battery...
This is by far the worst phone I've ever owned. I will never buy another Sony Ericsson phone for as long as I live.

It has a Xenon Flash, 5 Megapixel camera, nice funky glossy finish, nice button put away from each other making it hard to hit wrong buttons, big screen.
This camera is a very good camera nice finish, button can be unresponsive but get new firmware update love the phone very good..

I have had this Sony Ericsson K850i phone for less than 6 months and it has failed twice. 3 customer service have been completely unhelpful and are suggesting that the phone has now been liquid damaged and I will need to pay £55 to have it repaired. When I advised that it had not been wet (the moisture indicator under the battery was unchanged) they suggested that it may be due to condensation from the phone being too close to the bathroom! I have had 4 different phones in 9 months. The last one was delivered on friday and packed up on saturday. I would advise anyone against getting this phone. As reported by other people all my phones just freeze and the only way to get them back on is to take the battery out and put it back in. Its an absolute joke. The touch screen but take a while to get used to
I love this phone it has been very reliable - I have had it for two months. The camera is amazing and the music player isn't bad either. Well recommend Sony Ericsson K850i.

My phone has broke 4 times, All with the same problem. It turns itself off when you go to turn it on agian all the keypad lights come on and wont go off. Its not just mine but i know several people with the same phone that have all experienced problems and therefore had to get it repaired. I think the manufactorers should seriosly look at it to improve it. (read more)

Fair build quality, good features, reasonable picture quality although dedicated digital cameras with half the mega pixels will produce all round better pictures. A phone advertised with many enhanced features but complicated and delivers no where near your expectancy levels, an over priced reasonablly built phone but dont expect it to be best at everything it falls far short of that. Software conflicts are common with regulatr screen freezes. (read more)

Wow im not that only person who is experiencing problems with this mobile. Mine has been in for repairs 4 times with different problems, however the problems seem to be consistent with others reported on this site. 3 mobile cannot offer a replacement handset Sony has stopped manufacturing this mobile. Had problems with mobile not turning on, touch screen freezing or refusing to work, USB port not working so therefore cant connect to a computer. The camera is great on this mobile, shame about... I'm now on my second phone in just six months,after the first one got damp and packed in completely. This one has a mind of its own, it switches on and off at will, and now has decided to call it a day and just let me know that it is not going to power up completely, but shows me that its "lights are on". My Sony Ericsson K850i review - I would advise anyone against gettin this phone, while it may look nice it is a nightmare. I have had mine replaced 3 times in less than a year and now it has broken again, each time it is the same thing, it turns itself off or freezes (the keypad lights come on) and thats it, it wont turn off and the lights just stay on for hours. This phone is large enough to stand on if you are short and need to see over someone at a gig! Get an Iphone. This one, for me anyway, freezes, hangs up calls, wont switch on or off, the touch screen buttons are slow and/or stick but this, from what i have read seems to be down to unreliable microsoft software. do not go for this phone solely on looks as in the end mine cease to work! nice phone but it's only to look at and not actually good to use! Since i've had the phone i've had to send it in for repair as it kept freezing and simply would not turn back on. Touch screen a nice idea for the Sony Ericsson K850i, the casing is good and the new "internal" lens cover a huge step in the right direction in regards to avoiding unwanted dust particles compared to the sliding lens cover of previous versions

Overall, I like the Sony Ericsson K850i phone. However the buttons were not to my wife's liking as she prefers larger buttons for ease of getting around.
I have taken some nice photos with the Cybershot Camera and I love the radio in it as well, great sound, typical Sony.

I was proper impressed with the phone when I first got it! All I want to do now is drive over it with my car! Rather use it to prop up my wobbly table! Nice phone & good camera let down by very poor reliability and disappointing customer service.
I've had the phone around 9months and it's been for repair 3 times for 3 different faults.
1st it stopped charging.
2nd It locked up and refused to complete power-up sequence. Could only be turned off by removing the battery.
3rd Started randomly behaving as though the touch buttons were being pressed.
Finally, customer service refused to accept that 3 faults in 9 months was unusual. The...

I'm now on my second phone 8 months into an 18 month contract. I hope 3 network will continue to repair it after the 12 month point. It suffers from lock ups. If you have any damp near it the touch screen goes haywire selecting pages etc at will. If wearing tight jeans (we sometimes do!) it will unlock itself no doubt caused by the touch screen and will often have you on the internet etc. I have two friends with K850i's and they have suffered the same faults. I had my Sony Ericsson K850i two months, broken down three times, lost all notes, sick of going into repair joint. breakdown once, i guess its ok, twice, hmmm, but three times WHITHIN TWO MONTHS!!!!! You have got to be joking!!! what nice bits i thought about this phone have been completely mitigated by its complete unreliability, in fact in my case that seems to be its one reliable feature- it will break down. Buy a brick, they are cheaper, more reliable, and do more.
