    Good Points: It is Yamaha and looks good on your shelf. Picture quality I recon as high.


    Bad Points: It has stopped to read VCD SVCD & CD after 2 years. DVD is still going but for how long?


    General comments: I have bought my Yamaha DVD-S510 for over $400. It was considered as a good buy at that time. But it wasn't. It always had problems with some DVD-R. Bitrate at over 8000 caused it to stop or hiccup. Now it stopped for good for VCD CD. DVD still goes. I think that this king of product should work for years. There are only chips inside. It is not a cassette deck. I would advise you to give up pricy entry level DVD players. They are poor quality.

    This Yamaha S-510 DVD Player was fantastic, its got so many different options and it plays all sorts of DVD/CD formats and mine is Multi regional so its even good for Imported films.

    Great price and its lasted nearly 4 years.

    I'd recommend it as a first buy for a small home cinema setup.

    The Yamaha S-510 is a fine DVD player while it works but it appears the recent problems I have had with mine (after 2 1/2 years) are not uncommon. It has started making nasty, scary noises and it literally spat out one DVD today (no really, i pressed eject and the tray popped out...the dvd was still spinning rapidly and it leapt out onto the floor!) leaving nasty scuff marks on the surface.

    Worked well the first year, but doesn't want to switch on any more. Don't even think about buying. It is waste of money.

    I am totally disappointed by this DVD Player.
    I bought it at a high price (comparatively) and it totally broke down within 18 months ..and cannot be repaired.
