“Awful”

Please do NOT get automatic lessons here!!! There is only one automatic instructor and after 50 lessons I learned nothing. Consistently late, refused to let me try any manoeuvres, refused to let me use a sat nav (which is used in the test) and only let me drive the same route every lesson. He does not want you to pass so he can get more money out of you, when I asked to try a mock test or try a new route, he would shout at me at the top of his lungs and not allow me to book another lessons for weeks. He would constantly speak badly of his other students and even other nippers instructor’s to me. Since looking for another instructor, instructors from other companies advise to stay away from this man and have heard this about him before. Save your money!

Would massively recommend my instructor to anyone hoping to pass their driving test with an intensive driving course. He has the patience of a saint and is a great teacher and a good laugh so lessons aren't stressful or boring! He was very helpful. I have taken my test twice before and managed to pass with his help. Thank you

Absolutely 100% would recommmend nippers to all my friends and family didn’t have an awful lot of hours of lessons but thanks to the person I dealt with she kept me positive and I got through my test many thanks again for your hard work in teaching me right from wrong . I am so pleased with myself because although I felt ok on the day of my test my stomach was churning like hell .. the person I dealt with always had confidence in me even when others around me didn’t

“a fantastic experience”

★★★★★

written by hvRoth115 on 06/08/2017

hi My grandaughter has had I believe the average of driving lessons with Nippers and found the experience fantastic. She also has since found her confidence in all things in general and passed her driving test at the same time. Her instructer has been a fantastic influence on her throughout. Its a shame I cant mention her name but it starts with an N and ends with an I and has blonde hair in a ponytail. Thank You

“Extremely poor service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Miyag42 on 24/03/2016

STAY AWAY. Instructor was extremely un-reliable. Booked lessons - kept getting either postponed, re-scheduled or canceled. Weeks before my test, he says that he can no longer provide lessons due to have a 12 hour course elsewhere. I learnt practically nothing in the 30 hours worth of lessons I had with him. He didn't teach me how to emergency stop, bay park, hill start, reverse around a corner or any other of the main manoeuvre's. I have since postponed my test and found a private instructor, I am learning a ridiculous amount more than I ever was with Nippers. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

“Unbelievable bad service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by edMiller364 on 08/03/2016

Had 30 or so lessons , of which were inconsistent 1 week apart , 2weeks apart and in one case almost 3weeks apart. Lessons were always moved at last minute by the instructor , very inconvenient ! I was told that I was to apply for my test 1 week , then a week later was told by the instructor I only have one vacant hour before my test the following month. Lessons were always moved or cancelled because the instructor was always going on courses but no back up plan from the company to help. I have since had to change company's and car type because of these idiots , and my current instructor (who is more professional) , couldn't believe I was asked to submit for a test that I quite clearly was not ready for and was shocked the amount of stuff I had not been taught in that time.. Avoid this company if you want to be taught properly. I appreciate that not all the instructors are like this but I personally would never recommend them.

“Brilliant school and excellent instructor.”

★★★★★

written by Dwayne81 on 28/01/2016

Over the course of 2 years I had 4 driving instructors from other schools and attempted my driving test 3 times and failed. I contacted Nippers following a friends recommendation. After a handful of lessons (learning things I had never been shown before) I went for my test and passed with only 3 minors. Should of gone to Nippers right from the start and would of saved loads of money. Thank you to Nippers and my instructor.

“tried 3 instructors with no luck now”

★★☆☆☆

written by 405Barry on 19/01/2016

I have now tried 3 instructors with little nippers driving school now with no luck. Firstly I felt with all there was always part of the hour cut off and as they are expensive this adds up. They seem very full so do lessons back to back so I felt a sense of a rushed end. One of and the final instructor was very militant and harsh, very disheartening after the previous one who maybe didn't teach certain things from the start so this broke the confidence I had finally developed. The previous one could no longer fit me in which I feel wasted more money as it obviously takes time to adjust to a new car and driver.

“Thankyou for being so honest”

written by dave1958 on 04/11/2013

My son wesley passed his test today first time,he was 17 on 22/9/96 and i was attracted by nippers guaranteed pass,we had bought wesley his own car and got it insured with ikube where a black box is fitted and you are not allowed to pass your test within 6 weeks(terms of the policy)i spoke to an advisor at nippers and said i wanted the guaranteed pass, one month before wesley was 17 we paid the £100 deposit, nippers stated he would not start practical lessons until passing the theory test,he failed the first theory test on 23/9/13 and nippers booked another for 1/10/13 which he passed,he had his first driving lesson with nippers on 9/10/13,in the dates between 22/9/13 and 8/10/13 wesley did a number of hours tuition with myself and his mum,we taught him the basics but are certainly not driving instructors,on the day of his first nippers lesson, clint the instructor stated we did not need the guaranteed pass as wesley was advanced, credit to them for their honesty some people would have took the balance of £1200,we paid for 20 hours and we are delighted to see wesley pass first time today,i cant thank nippers enough, clint was very helpfull with my son and she explained everything to us,i will happily recomend nippers to anyone and our daughter will go with them when old enough to drive.

“Nightmare with bad instructor”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Unhappylearner on 31/07/2013

I can see by these reviews that Nippers have some good instructors, but I got one who was a nightmare. I booked a 40hour intensive course starting the end of may. I was a nervous novice and I made this completely clear both to nippers and the instructor. I was not taught the basics, given no feedback about my driving etc, once I had successfully done a manoevre once that was that, I was told there was no need to practice it again. I was given no reference points or guidance on how to use the mirrors on roundabouts or manoevres. Lessons was shortened due to his lateness, and we spent ten hours just doing loops of colchester in one direction, we didn't visit at least 60% of the town, but it did give him plenty of time to gossip. There was no prompting to look at road signs, no guidance on planning ahead, after forty hours I was still braking at every give way sign before checking the road. I was encouraged to do three driving tests in 6 weeks, despite not reaching the required standard- I failed all three times on basic things like meeting and pulling away, things I had not been taught and the instructor 'forgot' to practice with me despite my requests. Low point was doing a reverse park in the test centre before my third test and the instructor having to use the dual control brake as I almost hit the wall. I knew this was my weakest manoeuvre and asked repeatedly for help to sort it out but was told 'you're a really good driver, you don't need it'. He was cheap at £20 an hour but I think it's worth paying more- my current instructor is £23 an hour and is conscientious, reliable and dedicated. I didn't find her through Nippers though! I was encouraged to drive for hours (6 in London on one occasion, 5.5 hours on another) with no scheduled breaks and no opportunity to eat or drink. Any requests to stop were met with 'in a while' or ' just go a little further, you are doing so well' and before I knew it we were back on the A12 again. I was taken to Clacton and London during my intensive course, perhaps it would have been more useful if I had had some more driving experience and confidence first and that was 8 hours not spent in the town practicing some of the trickier roundabouts (that I failed on my first and third tests). The result was my nerves increased and confidence decreased, especially once I realised I had done the whole London trip with incorrectly set mirrors, no wonder changing lanes was so nerve wracking. He was very aggressive to other drivers, verbally and gesticulating if he thought they had cut me up etc. He also repeatedly used language like 'poofs' which may not be a problem to some people but I found it very uncomfortable. I got no appointment card, complaints procedure, price list, information on my progress, cancellation information etc, no paperwork at all. I was a novice and ten years later than family and friends in learning to drive, so I whilst I had my misgivings I did not know how much of what was happening was normal. I also had a deadline to pass my test so I was focused on that. With tests booked so close together I never got a chance to just stop and collect my thoughts and I was just consumed by nerves as deep I down I knew there was stuff I did not know. Only good thing is I lost a stone in weight through the stress of it all. I can see from these reviews that other people have had a similar experience to me. Nippers were supremely unhelpful.

“Waste of time and my money. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/05/2013

I spent several months learning with nippers on an automatic. Every lesson, I was simply, told to drive to the test area and back again. Maybe if I was lucky I would do a few manoeuvres. The instructor NEVER went into detail about mirrors, signalling at an appropriate time, reference points or anything I actually needed to know on test. It was VERY clear he was taking advantage of my money. When I booked my test he was EXTREMELY rude about the date I booked however, he must of had a panic because the last few lessons before my test he actually bucked up his teaching technique a little bit. After failing my test, I decided to join another driving school and they were 100% better than the joke in which nippers were. Please do not go to Nippers, they are completely unprofessional. I wish I never encountered them.

“They're not interested if you're not on an intensive...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/03/2013

I did a 40hr intensive course with nippers this went fine I failed my practical and this is where the issues started I booked another test and informed my instructor of the date and time and arranged to have 3 more lessons before my test my instructor failed to turn up for the first lesson without any cancellation I then arranged a lesson for 3 days later to which he failed to turn up to once again with no notification when I spoke to the instructor to find out what was happening explaining my test was the following week and I needed to know if he was going to be able to give me any lessons he then informed me that he was not available for my test even doe he was given the date for my test well in advance. nippers then after a complaint provided another instructor for a 2hr lesson in a completely different car who in formed me I was not up to test standard the fact the new car they provided handled completely different was not taken in to consideration as there had been no concern about my ability to drive before taking my first test.

“Didn't do Basic Manouvers early.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bCookie on 12/09/2012

I had wanted to complete my driving within a year. I had joined Nippers, as I heard they were a good driving school. I had 20 hours. Each week I would have double hour lessons. Every lesson would just be driving everywhere, and not the test area. Over the next few weeks I had got to about my 12th driving lesson and my tutor would say to me, you need to remind me to do manouvres, I reminded them. But my next lesson came I reminded them, but we hadnt done any monouvres or anything, we just drove around. so after spending lots of money and my instructor not being very honest with me, about how many hours i needed before my practical, I chose to go elsewhere and learn from scratch. That was just me, could be different for someone else. The only good outcome was that I got a feel of diving the car. I just needed my instructor to teach me the basic manouvers early, and been honest with me, and tell me exactly what I am doing wrong.

“Thank you Nippers!!!!”

★★★★★

written by on 24/05/2012

I took the 25 hours residential course at Clacton. I'd had a few lessons back in London but never had any confidence in how I was being taught. On meeting Steve my instructor, I received a friendly welcome and he took me out to assess the level of my driving. Each day with Steve I felt my confidence increase; I wasn't just being taught how to pass the test but was being made to understand driving and also started to really enjoy it. Steve would explain and repeat manoeuvres and roundabouts as many times as needed until we both knew I was happy with them. I just want to say a great 'Thank You' to Steve and all at Nippers as they made the experience so enjoyable and the result was a pass.
