I placed an order 13 days ago with The Book Depository, the books arrived here in Australia today, just under two week turn-around. I ordered a National Geographic road atlas and a Lonely Planet USA (I wonder where I am off to! yay). I browsed around a few stores (amazon.com.ca.uk.de, fishpond...etc), their price were by far the cheapest. The Book Depository have a great price range, I found that I could order two books here cheaper than I could buy 1 at the local bookstore. They have every book I've ever looked for and more. A downside was that, for me, the delivery always takes a while. I suppose that could be expected as I am in Western NSW, Australia, but I do think if there was somewhere that had similar prices and faster delivery I may be willing to switch over, but since there aren't that I've found, I am very happy... I ordered one book at first and it arrived ok. After that, I ordered another 3 books and I waited the 15 working days to receive no book. They have no idea about the books, the just say it is lately and that they can refund me or send me another copy. How can I trust the another copy will arrive since they dont tell me happy happen, who delivery it in Brazil. Last week I ordered two copies of the same book from The Book Depository. Their website claims they ship books within 48 hours, with 3-5 days delivery. A week later, I recieve an email telling me that my order has been dispatched. A long enough wait, and my books have not arrived within the advertised time. Book depository boasts that it offers free worldwide delivery - but what they omit to tell you is that the price they charge per book differs depending on the country they identify your computer to be based in..... For example, a book for which customers in the UK are charged £14.47 would cost you £19.15 if you are based in Europe. I have always been satisfied with this bookstore. Ive been purchasing the books since 2009 at BD and never been disappointed with the service/price/delivery. I dont know about the customer service though as I never needed to contact them. The books have always been sent within 2 days after ordering them and arrived in approx 5 working days to the Czech Republic even though they say 7-10 working days. What else to say? When I asked them when it would be sent I was told that they are waiting for it to come in from their supplier. I have used BD for a couple of years. Being based in Asia, I always used to find it competitively priced and convenient. I would have given it 5 stars. But now I notice how Amazon use it I very much dislike their practices. Basically, the same book is usually cheaper now at Amazon UK; however, postage is then added. And guess what? On Dec 28th I ordered a birthday present for my brother. There was a delay getting this from their supplier, acceptable, and an email eventually came (after much chasing by me) to say the book had been despatched on Jan 10th. It has never been received and the only advice given by TBD was to chase the post office/sorting office. Just had my second 'lost delivery' in a row - customer service do their best to 'placate' me, but the fact remains that orders are just not delivered and we are left disappointed. Two friends in my community have also not received part or all of their orders recently and the local Post Office even roll their eyes when we ask if there are any items from the book depository. Despite claiming to dispatch my order within 24 hours of purchase, it actually took the Book Depository 72 hours to dispatch, meaning my order arrived very late. If I had known this would be the case, I wouldn't have purchased from them in the first place. After contacting their customer services to ask why they had mislead me about their delivery and dispatch times, i received a prompt, yet pointless response which completely failed to answer any of my questions. Update on above review. The books arrived back at The Book Depostry and they contacted me by email. Very polite and efficient. I was offered a refund or the books again. I am very satisfied with the response. Only issue is that it would make things easier when things do go wrong if you could track an order. Otherwise I would give 4 stars as still alittle slow to process order.
