“Unbelievable increases in level of premiums.”

Written on: 05/04/2013

My now 15 year old moggie has been insured by Saga on the middle range 'Essential' cover for most of his life. No claim has ever been made on this policy -- fortunately the cat is very fit and active. 2 years ago the premium increased by 17.45%. Last year it increased by 13.15% to £193.92. The premium quoted for this coming year is £271.48 -- an increase of £77.56 or 40% !!. It is obvious that neither long term 'loyality' or a no claims history means nothing to Saga Insurance -- the... “Pollen allergy or otitis, who is right.”

Written on: 01/03/2013

My 2yr old dog had an allergy to grass pollen according to the vet. 7mths later he had to have an operation for otitis and Saga refuse to pay the claim for the operation . Claims the problems related to ears, so hard luck. What do we have to do to make insurance responsible, so quick to take our cash and bend the rules when it comes to paying out. So who is right, the vet for giving a wrong diagnosis or Sage for jumping on any excuse. As a pensioner who loves her dog, we are open to being... (read more)

“High increased costs this year for dog insurance.”

Written on: 02/07/2011

I have recently received my renewal pet insurance from Saga for my 5 year old dog and discovered the cost has risen from £342.00 last year to massive £509.00 this year! Wow! No claims have been made on the existing policy and I cannot understand how they can justify this emormous rise. I did expect a small increase in premium but not as much as this. I have spoken to them but the only thing they offer is to reduce Vet fees from £5,000.00 cover to £1,000.00 at a premium of £326.00... (read more)

The cost for my 7 year old dog started at around £8 (when he was 6 months old). I have complained in the past at the steep rises and was told it was due to increase in vet fees. The renewal has just arrived and they now want £33 a month, this is a step too far and I am now going to change insurers. They are almost double the cost of some other insurers for much the same cover. (read more)

I have 2 cats covered by my policy and needed to make a claim in the first year when one of my cats was shot and needed major surgery. I found Saga staff very sympathetic and helpful and my claim was rapidly processed. Although luckily my cat made a complete recovery I have since increased my policy from basic cover to lifetime cover as I realise now he could have been left with lasting problems. (read more)

A company that I trust that gives a good service at a price but possibly rather self-satisfied. Easy phone contact with helpful people, payment fairly prompt and no quibbles though all my claims have been straightforward injuries for vet costs. Annual premium (top category) has virtually doubled in 3 years. Explanation being that more claims and increase in vets fees. No opportunity to drop those aspects of insurance that are unimportant to me eg holiday cancellation. Mean rate for... (read more)
