Good Points: Plays VCD's, CD's, CDR's, CDRW's, CDG (karaoke things) and more
    Easily made multi region
    Cheap
Good Looking (mine dont look like the pic on this site tho?)

Bad Points: Control is badly set out

General comments: I got the 856 after takig back a Bush DVD player because it went mad saying everything was the wrong region
My good points list pretty much covers it all really theres no disk (that fits in the drive) that this machine wont play and mine was only £65 its just an excellent machine.
I have no problems so far with image or sound quality and i'm even getting multiregion DVD's soon which it will play using the region code

I bought this Schneider dvd856 DVD player because my Tosh won't play CDR's, I have watched Region 1 & 2 DVD's, DVDR's, VCD, SVCD, and MP3's all worked fine.
Not quite sure how the Karaoke feature is supposed to work, I borrowed a CD+G which played the music, but no graphics on screen.

I was looking for a cheap player as a present that would play anything I threw at it and with the Schneider DVD 856 I have found it. The picture was spot on and the audio damn good as well. I'm not one of these who connects 40 speakers to a DVD player, I want a machine that will play discs on my TV, I'm not bothered if it doesn't make the tea and mow the lawn, I have a girlfriend for that.

Summary, 99 quid for a very good machine, looks pretty nice too.

I had one of these Schneider DVD856 DVD players which was great but it wouldn't play some dvd's so I exchanged it. The exchange unit had a different startup screen so I presume different firmware: I've now had three of these units all with the same problems. Major problem: when navigating back to the root menu these players can lockup and you have to eject the disc. The zoom goes into slow motion so you can't watch a widescreen film slightly zoomed in, instead of pan and scan. The audio outp ...

I thought I'd give this Schneider dvd856 DVD player a try as it was well spec'd and the only one in Asda's. It's well built and region select is via the "8421" method (no macrovision hack). Picture quality seems good with no visible pixelation. VCD performance is also good. On the downside, the major gripe is that the sound level output (regardless of setting) is a lot lower than broadcast. So unless you've got a clever tv to compensate for this it's *very* annoying. Also it got stuck during the ...

A new DVD player at Asda for £99, the schneider dvd856 looked well spec'd, with plenty of outputs and MP3 support (and DTS support too).
Picture was rock solid and showed no artifacts or pixelation etc. Sound was nice too (the 3D effect only works for audio CDs) and it even played the Creed VCD no problem. But...
Playing Die Hard 1 and 2 and the Die Hard 2 extras disc all resulted in the player locking up and reverting to standby (after around 4 to 10 minutes). Would also lock up at the ...
